Why are rouge traders a thing?

It seems such a useless thing to create. When the emperor of mankind was conquering earth some basically held their own ground but you would it would of been better to merge them into your government.

Also. Mars. Why wasn't its leader turn into a trader?

I've been running a game with a few of my friends and my blind cousin and it got me thinking. Are there are RPGs that have books in Braille? The blind don't play as many video games or watch as many movies as the rest of us I feel POD braille copies of games could be a potential untapped market. That and I'm trying to find the guy a way to read the books independently to learn the ins and outs of the systems we use better.

To put people into perspective, into this situation.
Imagine this you are a veteran hero you have managed to avoid gods wrath from a simple accident or provoking it to save the kings life., He or she has saved countless villages and has earned the thanks of countless maidens and princess's and has killed enough beasts to fill more than a few tens of trophy rooms. And has earned enough gold and spent it to sate more than a few legendary dragons. And has managed to survive more than a few years and is continuing the adventuring, but what happens when it dawns upon the folk hero or savior that it has become boring to fight dragons or gods or anyone day after day, that it has become boring to them, when so many other people find what they do so interesting?
What do they do that doing what is perceived as the worlds most exciting and riveting thing has become boring, it has become sorta like a day job?
(apoligies for any bad grammer.)

Hey /tg/ what do you do with quiet/shy players?

3/4 of them literally sit waiting for me while waiting until I tell them to roll for something

We have ran over 7 sessions already and the issue is still there, I've addressed this by putting them in situations where their input is needed and well their answer is more often than not a single word or a very short phrase.

Have an NPC have a straight up conversation with them, and if they don't respond well enough have the NPC get offended.

Have a no cell phone rule

Talk to your players like adults and call them on their shit. If they don't want to partake with the roleplay hand them a calculator. Sure is a lot of number crunching they can do with that
>>
>>46260946

The NPC thing could work, we don't have a no cellphone rule but nobody ever gets distracted.

Ultimately I could call them on their shit however I wanted to see if there were more "IC" options I could use before that
>>
>>46261033
Make them roleplay be more creative make them talk, provide investigation, subtly force them to discuss to each other in char. Silently reward chars that roleplay such as providing a clue to an investigation or a hint when recapping the enemy when talking to each other...

No, but you need to do something to interact.

If your deck sucks against combo, then you need to play basically 12-15 anti combo cards in your sideboard.

I came 3rd with this pile the other night: take note on how many anti-combo cards I have, tailored for my meta:

4 Cursed Scroll
4 Figure of Destiny
4 Grim Lavamancer
4 Mogg Fanatic
4 Rakdos Cackler
1 Sulfuric Vortex
2 Eidolon of the Great Revel
3 Fireblast
4 Lightning Bolt
4 Chain Lightning
3 Rift Bolt
4 Bloodstained Mire
7 Mountain
4 Rishadan Port
4 Wasteland
4 Wooded Foothills

SB: 3 Ensnaring Bridge
SB: 4 Leyline of the Void
SB: 3 Mindbreak Trap
SB: 2 Pyrostatic Pillar
SB: 3 Smash to Smithereens

Beat Miracles and ANT, lost to Elves (but he had it all so whatever)

So a while ago I remember some folks debating whether it was evil to use a Helm of Opposite Alignment on a pure evil being like a demon. Those saying 'evil' say so because the amount of mindrape it would need to change their alignment is so strong that it erases all of what they are, effectively killing them.

Alright, some of that makes sense. You are practically killing a demon if you use this item on them...

But since when was killing demons and devils ever an evil act? Especially when you're playing something like a Paladin. You're going to kill them anyway, why not spawn a Good being out if it? You ought to get a reward for that even. The universe is now an ever so slightly better place.

Let's break it down

Business as usual

>kill evil fiend
>good

Helm of Opposite Alignment

>kill evil fiend
>create good guy
>evil?

But step one is the same so it has to be good. Besides, these things are otherwise irredeemable beings from a land of fucking evil and you'd be laughed out of the room for trying to reason good into them instead of just smiting. If that's the case then your method of destroying this kind of evil shouldn't matter as long as no one good (and some neutrals I guess) gets unjustly hurt.

>Those saying 'evil' say so because the amount of mindrape it would need to change their alignment is so strong that it erases all of what they are, effectively killing them.

those people are dumb. compare yourself to when youre stressed and tired and when youre rested. one day youre an asshole with zero patience and the next you go back to normal. did you die? did the good you die and become replaced by an evil you, which then died and was replaced by a good you? the answer is no because thats retarded. switching someones mind wouldnt involve any mindrape when it comes to values and morals. you ever get your mind changed about something? like lets say you believed that elves were good people until you were corrected and began believing that elves deserve to die and be raped. your morals changed there. your values changed. your opinion changed, but you were still you. point is, if a demon was changed to good, it would still be itself but it would follow a different set of rules. basically like a crazy person taking medication. of course theres the chance it feels so bad for its past crimes that it kills itself. that wouldnt be quite so good
>>
>>46260498
Depends entirely on whether or not you run absolute alignment.
I never do, but I would argue that this method is still evil, since you have performed a forcible conversion via what can be stated as a form of mind-control.
>>
>>46262079
But given what demons and devils are, why is that evil?

The Beast Arises: ‘The Last Wall’
David Annandale
Ebook Edition, 2016

If you’re already invested in The Beast Arises, you’re going to want to read ‘The Last Wall’ because it really shakes things up. If you’re not, you don’t want to read this book as a one-off 40k book or as your first entry into the series, because on its own it merits it kind of sucks.

It’s a trap! That might as well have been the tagline for this book. Whether it’s the Orks, the Inquisition, the Officio Assassinorum, or the forces of Chaos, everybody tries to trap everybody else. Except for the Imperium, who do what they do best and launch a crusade on the Ork attack moon hovering over Terra. As you might expect, especially since the newly-released Black Library blurbs for the future books spoiled the fact that the moon continues to orbit Terra five books later things go badly.

>"Why keep him alive? If he's worth attacking, he's worth killing."

There is some interesting Inquisitorial/Assassinorum intrigue that takes place over the course of the book as Inquistors Wienand and Veritus struggle for power over the Inquisitors of Terra and Vangorich intervenes to keep Wienand alive and kicking. Vindicare Assassins, whatever Esad Wier is, and a Vanus spy get to show off their skills at sneaking and killing in some of the more interesting moments in the book. I especially enjoyed the Vindicare segment, since it injected some much-needed humor into the story.

The rest of ‘The Last Wall’ is much less interesting and a lot stupider. Characters don’t think, or think in completely illogical ways. Never mind Imperial Guardsmen tempting fate in clichés, or Inquisitors pinning all their complex plans on random luck, and High Lords being willfully blind to the universe around them; no, the real stupidity is how everyone in the book says time and again how they can do nothing, nothing they do matters, and then regret how they didn’t do anything. Annandale uses the same rhetorical device time and again to dismiss character’s acting stupidly just so that the plot can advance to the story’s M. Night-style twist. It’s pathetic.

>Vangorich knew what it meant, though. He had told himself that he had nothing invested in Tull’s folly. He was wrong. He discovered that when he felt a vice crush something in his chest.

The story focuses on one event: the launching of the Proletarian Crusade. Stirred up by passionate rhetoric of saving Terra and serving the Emperor, millions of Terran citizens volunteer to join the thousands of impressed starships in the Sol system to invade the Ork attack moon. This moon hovers over Terra for about three weeks, doing nothing but staring down at the planet while High Lords (Vangorich and the Inquisitorial Representatives) try to assassinate rivals in the shadows of Terra and support the Crusade so that their political standing rises. It’s not really coherent; we have two new viewpoint characters who show off the fervor that sweeps the human population and the attitude of the ship captains forced to support the Crusade knowing they’re doomed to die, and they both just go with the flow and wind up being objects of amusements for the Orks. Who actually send ambassadors to the High Lords and demand their surrender. Before mocking them for being fucking stupid and arguing among themselves before peacing out.

Secondary plots include the traitorous Iron Warriors being invaded by both an Ork attack moon and a Black Templar Crusade, and Chapter Master Koorland of the Imperial Fists assembling a force of Successor chapters. And these plots eventually become one plot; the Fist’s mobilization is being held up by the Black Templars wasting their strength invading the Iron Warriors and the Iron Warriors decide they need to focus on one invasion, not two. They probably team up, unless the alliance spoiled by Black Library is one between the humans and the Eldar.

Annadale’s style doesn’t match well with the previous entries in the series. There’s a lot less dialogue, a lot more description and internal monologue. Few of the viewpoint characters spend much time interacting with others; the bulk of ‘The Last Wall’ is devoted to action scenes and introspection, and while not necessarily a bad thing it really slows down the pace of what should be a tense and tight suspense novel. The Orks are right over Terra, and yet the feeling of panic that the book describes never really comes through.

>They did not find strength in each other. They saw and heard and felt only their own fear reflected back at them a hundred thousand times. They shouted as if that might help them stay afloat in the wave of desperation. But they sank. And they drowned.

In one area, Annandale has done better than previous entries in the series. His worldbuilding is better. You see some of how various High Lords maintain their power bases, such as the Speaker for the Chartist Captains maintaining an office where the wealth, culture, and delicacies of the Imperium are rotated through on a daily basis, never repeating, to impress just how important and powerful the merchant marine is.

And the exploration of Terra’s hives as the Inquisition and Assassinorum play cat and mouse with their lives finally creates an impression of this post-Heresy, pre-Vandire Imperial society where things aren’t totally fucked up, just slowly decaying. We finally understand what the book’s characters are fighting to save, as opposed to just being humans reacting to an alien invasion.

>"Don't need an interpreter," the lead ork said. "We tell you how to surrender, you surrender. Easy."

In a way, David Annandale accomplished something very powerful with ‘The Last Wall.’ But he also failed terribly. Finally, the costs of the invasion seem clear. Though I will admit that the chapters about Undine in ‘Predator, Prey’ are in a similar vein, they don’t quite match the tone and emotional weight of Annandale’s rendering of the terror of the civilians of Terra.

And yet Annandale drops the ball by diverting the story away from the actual invasion and the existential terror brought on by the attack moon to play around with the Iron Warriors and the Imperial Fists doing nothing, while kicking the book into action movie territory with the intrigue and fighting of the Inquisition. Imagine playing Majora’s Mask and every few hours you suddenly played Tingle’s Balloon Fight or Super Smash Bros. The shifts in tone and the uneven pacing just turn the book into a generic, undifferentiated mess.

Yes, there are about three DW players on /tg/ in total- me, one guy who said it was nice to see my models, and probably one other anon.

As for Fleet Action, yeah, I'm pretty interested. DW does take a little too long to play and has a few rules quirks I don't like (like boarding, which is a fucking mess). Since it's just a new rule set, and sounds as though it will be fairly similar to DW- DR, exploding dice, linking fire etc. and won't have its own line of models, it shouldn't trigger Spartan's ADHD too hard.
>>
At the very least I will be keen to have a look. Whether I like it or not will depend on how much they streamline the rules.

I really like Dystopian Wars, I've got 3 fleets and 2 armies. However, a 1000 point game takes me about 4-5 hours to play and I get at least two rules completely wrong each game.

A fast play variant sounds appealing.

It was developed by a now-defunct group known as the Returners. I had it printed because it's hard to lock down a .pdf on. I do know there is one available if you're willing to delve into your search.

The ZODIAC Final Fantasy RPG is not only easier to find, but, from the opinions I've gathered, players seem to prefer it due to its more malleable class system.

The Plague Marines and Rhinos are also okay but need lots of special weapons.
