Look at these skulls.
One is from an aboriginee, and the other is from a white man.

How can you not say we all belong to one race, the human race?

Where will you be on August 21, the day a total solar eclipse crosses over America for the first time since 1979?

This might be one of the most viewed eclipses of all time since it's not in the middle of nowhere like eclipses usually are.

Where is the best place in the US to see it?

And can I use my welding helmet?
>>
>>8946074
I'm gonna be seeing it in Salem, OR at an official viewing spot. The best place is obviously the cities where the eclipse will be longest, which are Carbondale, IL and Hopkinsville, KY. But those places are too far from me. You really just need to be somewhere in the path on that map I linked, away from clouds, to have a good solid view.

I want to have a thread on human speech/language pathology and didn't know where else to do it so /sci/ it is

I have been studying linguistics as of late and it's actually very interesting stuff. Does anyone else here give a shit or should I just fuck off back to ®eddit?

Why the focus on removing Africa's carbon footprint?

I've come to notice that a lot of inventions designed for African tribes and other struggling communities that the main focus is things like their carbon footprint, instead of things like their lack of proper health care or manufactory. Like, wtf?

Why focus on making solar equipment for water purification and food cooking and transportation and then say, "It reduces their carbon footprint," when any American driving an automobile already has a carbon footprint at least a dozen times larger than one individual? It'd make more sense to cut the carbon footprint by putting air scrubbers on factories and vehicle exhausts or investing in Hydrogen fuel cells than limiting the abilities of the poor.

Is there a red-pill meme about keeping the poor in their place I'm missing here? It just doesn't make any sense. Using a solar dish to replace bonfires that burn trash and cook food and calling that reducing the carbon footprint when doing absolutely fucking nothing about Chinese industrial pollution or American food production pollution makes no fucking sense.

Because there is over a billion people using charcoal, and that is significant?
>>
Reducign carbon footprint is just a side effect.

The main problem is that producing energy takes money. Electricity and gasoline aren't easy to come by when you're dirt poor. That's why all the inventions are designed to function with no fuel.
>>
>>8946000
Then target China or India and tell them to use solar or wind or geothermal power, not make fucking solar tricycles and ovens and windmills. If more power can be produced, then that power can just be applied to basic electrical appliances that'd do the job much better.

>Living where coal power is the primary source of energy.
Why can't we just use scrubbers either? That'd at least solve the carbon emissions part and make coal power plants much more readily available.

My apologies, I'm not trying to just both and complain. I'm just at a failure to understand and I need it explained to me. I'm a physics and mechanical technologies major, not an environmental science or geology major.

>A drug discovered more than 100 years ago may hold the key to combating autism symptoms, according to a study.
>Researcher Dr Robert Naviaux of the San Diego School of Medicine gave suramin, a drug first developed in 1916, to 10 autistic boys between the ages of five and 14, and noted transformative results.

>"After the single dose, it was almost like a roadblock had been released," he said. “If the future studies show that there’s continued health benefits, this could be a game-changer for families with autism.”

can an old sub be turned into a orbital launch vehicle? i figure it'd be more economical than trying to make one from scratch where you need a whole team of welders to make the fuel tank. or would dismantling this take as much manpower?

submarines and rockets are significantly different, so different that you really might as well just rebuild the whole thing because it'd cost less to do

I'm tempted to say to myself, "just work hard bro", but the point of being a high IQ person is that you should be getting the fucking answer, not having fucking difficulties. Being a high IQer means being good at doing, not having a certain amount of knowledge.

This is a brutal feeling. And I got top marks in my high school and university engineering maths courses (I am studying applied maths after finishing university).

Dear /sci/. I almost fucked up royally by letting a mercury lamp almost explode. My supervisor uses it, its worth a few thousand euros. It said in the manual to not let the power go beyond 110 watts. You have to keep checking whether it is close or over this value every few minutes.

What do i do? I turn it on, leave the room, look at memes for about 15 minutes. I come back and lean over to look at the lamps. the mercury lamp is now directly under my head. It feels kind of hot, let me look at the power it is producing.

HOLY SHIT IT'S 115 WATTS!! GREAT SCOTT!
I'm shocked and after some moments being frozen i turn the value down. nothing exploded, no harm done. But i feel like shit, what if the thing exploded. In my face? i would have died, or ended up disfigured for life...

But what if the thing exploded when i was not near, evenm then i would have been majorly fucked. My research gone to shit togheter with any grade i hoped to get.

I still feel like total shit and I needed to vent...

Thanks for reading!

No, it all came from something. Something that was really hot/dense and exploded bout 14 billion years ago. The ultradense stuff still existed in an infinite universe.

Today I learned what double integrals are and even though in class we only saw really trivial examples (planes) and basically just covered the limit definition, when I got home I got myself some practice problems and learned all the little tricks like changing the order of variable and subdividing the region being integrated over.

And I have to say, doing double integrals makes me feel really good about myself. It makes me feel really smart. I am not sure why it is, but if it is anything then it probably is drawing the double integral symbol, writing dA, and specifying the region of integration under the integral as a set, rather than as an interval. Also when I say the word compact I feel like a big man.

Compact. Compact. Consider this compact set. Consider this family of compact subsets. Consider consider consider. Let A be a partition. I want to fuck a double integral.

And just now I was doing retarded shit as always like jerking off and watching dumb 4chan simulator videos on youtube when suddenly I remembered how good it felt to do double integrals, so I looked for more problems and just did them. It legitimately felt good to do those integrals and now the feeling has stuck in me. I may just see myself in the couple of weeks doing double integrals at the park, at the bus, in my room, in the bathroom while taking a shit. Who knows. Double integrals may be the best concept in mathematics that has ever been invented and no one can deny this to me. And I have felt so good that I have come here to you to preach about the one true god of mathematics: double integrals. Have you done a double integral today? Have you thanked the gentle authors who created double integral problems for us to solve? Thank them or you will go to integral hell, where there are only single integral problems and where compact sets do not exist.

So comfy.

Do you know that there are TRIPLE integrals out there?
>>
>>8944068
I have heard of the false prophets and indeed they will come to me later this semester, but I will not praise them. For I have done plane geometry and space geometry, and plane geometry is much comfier than space geometry.

And what will triple integrals be anyway? 4 dimensional volume? HAH. Nonsense. Burn the believers of the false prophets.
>>
>>8944061
This is honestly one of the things that makes me feel so cool and smart.

I would always look ahead in math. I would look to the end of the book, at whatever crazy looking symbols and language they were using. It seemed so advanced. And then once I finally learned it, I felt so smart. Finally being able to use those symbols, to write them in my own handwriting, and not just to write it but to know what it means and to be actually proving something about it. Like a real math guy.
