Why are humans so slow?

We have powerful leg muscles, are a decent size and can keep up top speed for greater distances than most mammals can. Yet compared to other mammals are size, our top speed is pitiful. The average human can't even outrun large mammals such as elephants, rhynos and hypos. Why is that?

>powerful leg muscles
no, all of our muscles are weak as fuck

We are slow because we are bipedal and our muscles are shit.
>>
>>9061529
humans predominate in slow twitch muscles for long distances (hence as you said); some theorise as an adaptation as part of hunting animals over long distances on the savannah but who really knows. we are unusual amongst animals in that most other animals rely more on fast twitch for fast bursts of speed maybe for quick escape and hunting. the only other animals which really match are muscle profile is things like slow loris'

I was a big fan of Series in Calc 2 this past semester, is there any other type of math higher up that is similar to series? I am compelled to learn and do more with Convergence and Divergence.
What books do you suggest?

What field is appropriate for understanding the fundamentals of existence? Is it metaphysics or is math a viable option? I generally like to think about metaphysical problems, but I feel that there is alot of things in philosophy that is too high leveled (high level abstarction layer) and therefore not relevant to the fundamentals of existence, any ideas?

>What field
The answer lies in a rejection of the question. You must be a generalist and avoid hyperspecialization, and compartmentalization. Try to resolve the underlying absolutes everything is composed of and the connections between them.

All questions and answers are imaginary. Are there any questions or answers that exist as a physical reality?

What does this mean? I've read studies that psychoactive substances and maybe even non psychoactive substances cause physical changes in the brain that may be permanent. Does this mean that after 25 these substances dont cause physical changes to the brain anymore or what? Since the brain has finished developing does it mean anything?

If you consume something that causes a massive amount of ROS production, leading to a cascade of cell death, is it permanent?

Yep. Other stuff can damage receptors and other cellular structures / machinery, some types of signalling can cause functional alterations long after the fact, etc. Otherwise you would never change.

Basic logic tends to tell you it all. Things are all very simple and very similar at their core.
>>
>>9060660
write so that people can understand please. you're not clear. what does what mean? im not sure but i know psychoactive drugs cause changes at any age. in the first 25 years your brain changes more than it will for the rest of your life so i assume interrupting these changes in those years will have a bigger effect on you than interruptions in the latter years since interrupting in the first 25 years affects your maturation. your brain seems more malleable then so maybe more fuckable.

Is laziness associated with inefficiency?
13 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
>>9060420
it is a bell curve of time spend being productive against efficiency. On the left you have people whom could be more productive, but spend no time on it. On the right you have people who spend all their time trying to be efficient and are therefore unproductive. And in the middle are the people whom spend exactly the right amount of time to be as productive as they can be.

However, a perfectly efficient productive worker can still end up outputting less than an inefficient worker. Which is why nobody likes Chad.
>>
>>9060420
Not necessarily. Laziness can lead a smart lazy guy to amazing efficiencies in order to make the job easier.
>>
>>9060563
A smart man can be potentially efficient at something, but until then he will feel laziness and be inefficient. Since every work requires some amount of training, this implies everyone is lazy until they get good at it.

Getting started on graph theory and I'm stuck on an exercise.

I'm supposed to find a graph that has cycles of lengths 5,6,7,8,9 but nothing else, with 10 vertices tops.

I swear I've been stuck on that for 20 minutes now. Is there a technique or just trial and error. (I'm at the very beginning of the book so I don't know much except basic definitions)

I did find a graph with cycles of 5,6,8,9 but it seems like trying to get that 7 would make a <5 cycle. Anyone?

are you sure the question does not ask for a directed graph?
>>
No one?
It's a pain being a graphcel, the Konigsberg problem took me a whole 20 minutes to solve.

should have specified, it's a connected graph.

I believe he was going to say "cocks".

How is it that it is 2017 and I still hear people say things like "evolution is a myth", "evolution has never been proven", "it's just a theory!" etc? Is this just a US thing, or are there other modern countries that are scientifically illiterate as well? What gives?

Many muslim countries also have trouble accepting it.

How many /sci/entists unironically got a theoretical degree rather than an applied/engineering degree?

Look at this cuck, "muhhh PhD in science"

What do we think his degree was in?

It's simple boys,

>get into a good university
>get internships or related work/experience every summer
>MAYBE a masters if you're industry requires it
>Graduate programme or just an entry level job
>Earn some ca$h

Then, if you're still feeling theoretical, go back and do a masters or PhD in something.

Hopefully I've saved some of you a lot of time and money
