Either conservation of energy or the second law of thermodynamics?

I don't know how it's currently reconciled with our model of physics, but it doesn't seem to logically follow that both are true.

a. Energy can never be created or destroyed.
b. Entropy always trends upwards.
c. If energy can never be created or destroyed, the Universe simply Is and has no beginning or end in relation to time. Otherwise, the universe should have never come into existence.
d. The universe does exist, thus energy must either be capable of being created from nothing OR a state of eternal being.
e. If the former statement of d is true, there are such things as nonconservational forces in nature.
f. If the latter statement is true, the universe should have underwent heat death untold eons in the past and never recovered. Thus, we shouldn't exist at this time.
g. Since we do exist, there must be a natural occurrence in which entropy is decreased from a system OR point e must be true.

The law of conservation of energy follows from the time-symmetry of the differential equations of physics.

It doesn't apply, for example, in General Relativity e.g. in big bang cosmology

The total wavefunction must be antisymmetric with respect to the interchange of all coordinates of one fermion with those of another.

The second law of thermodynamics is definitely bullshit. It doesn't even hold true all the time and is just "on average."

Because why not?

Doing a BSc in maths right now. Is it a meme or is it really something useful? I'm having a hard time understanding why people would pay for highly theoretical stuff that will probably be useful only 200 years later.

>>
>people would pay
You really think someone will ever pay for the knowledge you are gaining right now? It is purely for fun, for your joy.
>>
The soft skills are important, but nobody is going to pay you money for knowing that all differentiable functions are also continuous. If you use any of what you learned in undergrad right out of school it'll be because you also took statistics, comp sci, economics, finance, or engineering classes.

Riddle me this: What causes the body to stop growing? I understand growth plates fuse and harden at a certain age which stops you from gaining any more height. But what's stopping soft tissue like our muscles and internal organs from not just continually growing all the time? How does the body know when to stop growing certain parts of itself?
42 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
from what i know there are a bunch of genetically predetermined hormones and chemicals that do all the job: signal when puberty starts, when growth hormones are supposed to act on all your body, make your bones and dick grow, and when to close the growth windows for good. you're not gonna find a way to reopen this window with a google search becaude apparently, no doctors/researches/none cares one bit about manlets and dicklets and all you will find is bluepilled bullshit like diet/exercise/scams/accept what you have/X famous person is Y tall.
>>
>>9052784
If it's all hormones and chemicals then it could be possible to induce a sort of 2nd puberty that would enhance male/female charactersitics in the individual. Why isn't there research being done on this shit, imagine being the dude that creates the first method for inducing penile growth, you'd be legendary.

Our earliest radio transmissions have travelled maybe 100 light years or so. That's nothing, it's unimaginably tiny. By the time we make 'contact' we will have obliterated ourselves to extinction or send ourselves back to the dark age from nuclear war, bio weapons, nerve gas etc...

Does that make anyone else profoundly sad?

not really, there are a billion other random thoughts that would make me more sad
>>
>>9051264

I guess it's the thought that in terms of mathematical probability there are likely intelligent life forms somewhere in the universe, but the laws of physics prevent any contact with them that makes me sad.

When will planetary """"""""""scientists"""""""""" finally drop their ego and admit that their predictions as to the prevalence of life in the universe are vast overestimates?

There's what, 200 billion stars in our galaxy? 1 in 200 billion seems fairly reasonable for the probability of life not only being started in the first place but evolving to the point where it becomes intelligent.

Face it, faggots, we are alone in this galaxy.

Should I even get a STEM degree?

I'm an Art fag and I really just want to be able to draw, make music, and make games for the rest of my life but my family wants me to get a STEM degree (If you are saying making games entails STEM I would agree but I just use GameMaker's language I don't know anything else). I don't think I'm intelligent enough to really pursue a career in STEM though.

Here are some things about myself I guess:
I got a 25 on the ACT
My cumulative GPA was a 3.0 (Started at a 3.5 as a freshman then went to a 2.9 as a senior, my mother was in a coma for a while and passed away which contributed somewhat to my grades going to shit).
When I study I get A's but when I don't I get like C's
I was never in the higher math but I was never in the lower math classes, just slightly above average.

Sorry if these posts aren't allowed on /sci/ I'm just getting really anxious about college.

I wouldn't say I'm a manchild faggot who obviously has no motivation or sense of reality. I have been working on setting up passive income for the future and I make around 3k - 4k a month selling music, drumkits, and my art. I know it isn't a lot but I think I'm doing better than most people my age in terms of financial security. I would say I'm more frugal than most and I generally spend money on assets.

I feel as if I have motivation when it is something I enjoy, that is why I'm thinking about something like computer programming.
>>9056648
Well sorry I'm not as gifted as some of you, but I knew that if I wanted good grades I would have to put like 3 hours into studying.

I don't know if this is the appropriate place to post this but I just wanted some anons opinion. I cut my finger a week ago. Pretty deep, almost to the bone and I'm pretty sure I cut a nerve due to the fact that I've lost feeling in the area around and above the cut. I went to urgent Care the next day to have it sutured and it's been constantly bandaged since. I clean and rebandage it every day. I just wanted to know if if it looks or is infected. Arigato to anyone willing to throw in their opinion.

Explain what this game gets wrong in regards to time travel, kerr black holes, and the possibility of multiple dimensions

>>9055248
I've watched the animu.

the microwave doesnt just time travel the jelnanas but it also teleports them. Time travel shouldnt move you physically anywhere, you should pop out the same place you were
>>
>There is no such thing as time.
>There is many worlds interpretation of QM
>>
>>9055251
The VN more directly addresses this issue; since the premise of time travel in the series focuses on kerr black holes and manipulation of gravity, it becomes exceedingly difficult to predict when and where you'll end up once passing through the kerr black hole. This is resolved with a mcguffin that utilizes complex algorithms based upon the Earth's gravity in order to calculate where a time traveler ends up.

I'll start :

Reversal of cognitive decline: A novel therapeutic program :

This report describes a novel, comprehensive, and personalized therapeutic program that is based on the underlying pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease, and which involves multiple modalities designed to achieve metabolic enhancement for neurodegeneration

Nine of the 10 displayed subjective or objective improvement in cognition beginning within 3-6 months, with the one failure being a patient with very late stage AD. Six of the patients had had to discontinue working or were struggling with their jobs at the time of presentation, and all were able to return to work or continue working with improved performance. Improvements have been sustained, and at this time the longest patient follow-up is two and one-half years from initial treatment, with sustained and marked improvement.

>In this paper they essentially cured Alzheimer's, methods are in pic related.

So there, you now can not have Alzheimer's or help your loved one.
