Is there real science behind transgender people or is it all just a meme? I suspect it's just a meme but then that means lots of men are surgically excising their genitals because they were tricked which is pretty horrifying.

All social sciences- which are the ones that concern themselves with this stuff- have historically proven to be easily influenced by the politics of the moment.

Anyone who's in a position to answer this with any authority is also in a position to find whatever evidence they set out to find.

I have no good sauce because a lot of articles just try to respect them and other sugarcoat it silly much here.
But my theory is that it's either an issue with testosterone or hormones. (I know one in particular which had hormone issues and thus got tumblr crazy.)
Testosterone issues is most probably because of today's society, upbringing, or just born a failure. But perhaps this is unrelated as I believe it's mainly for sex-drive, and with uncertainty i believe that trans people are usually still sexually active. Unless we'll get on those non-binary faggots.
I doubt that, even with some severe autism shit, you'd go the lengths of becoming a woman for memes.

hey, i need help from someone with logic reasoning knowledge.

How do you prove this without resorting to a logical table?

what makes it so "obvious"?

Yes. I have a degree in science and my colleagues and I are doing experiments to prove it.

All memes disregarded, I do not understand the -3c portion of this proof. I can see how the second divergent series ends as 1/4 and then divide by -3 but how does -3c equal something that has positives and negative signs if c is all together positive terms? Is it 4c-3c that we're doing?

Is the -1/12 solution just a meme or how does this occur in the end? The proofs that I see haven't produced this conclusion clearly (at least in my mind).

>>
its c - 4c = 3c
>>
>>8451753
Do you mean -3c?
Also why does that series converge to 1/4?
>>
>>8451753
But why wouldn't that be -3-6-9-.....
Are we allowed to just add those 0 spaces without consequence?

Hatcher says [Algebraic Topology - p36]
> open set in R^n and open set in R^m cannot be homeomorphic unless m=n.

wtf? What about open disk in R^2 and same disk in R^3 that is little "bended"

Or what about pic related? Did I read sentence wrong? Please help, i thought I had it and now it's all crumbling.

>>8451654
The "same disk" isn't open any more when it's in R^3.
>>
>>8451656
Of course.

Do I say that D^2 disk is then embedded in R^3 so he keeps same topological characteristics as he has in R^2? I understand that I can't fit open set of R^3 into this embedded disk

>Or what about pic related?
If, instead of R^3, you use the torus as the space to embed things into, it is open if mapped like in the pic, as that is an intersection of the torus and an open ball in R^3, in the subspace topology of the torus, this is an open set. Now, you may think this contradicts Hatcher's claim, but nope. The torus is a 2-manifold, and thus locally homeomorphic to R^2.

If I drank heavily all throughout my 20s, how much have I lost in terms of intellectual and emotional development?
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
The real question is how fucked is your liver?
>>
>>8451456
who cares about intellectual and emotional development, the real problem must be the temporary liver damage, because that will have a huge impact on your life
>>
>>8451455
Depends how much you drank. "Heavily" is not very informative. It could mean 5 beers a day everyday or it could mean heavy weekend binging or it could mean a handle of vodka a day.

Is it scientifically accurate to say that everything that dies once lived and that everything that lives eventually dies?

Death is defined by previous life, so yes to the first one.
Yes to the second one because the universe itself will die.

Is there an actual, biological difference between a person's gender and sex?

Is transgenderism a mental disorder, and if so, is reassignment surgery really the best way to go about treating it?

>Is there an actual, biological difference between a person's gender and sex?
Define your terms and this might be a meaningful topic.
>>
>>8451358
>Is there an actual, biological difference between a person's gender and sex?
Generally, one differentiates between chromosomal gender (If you have a Y chromosome, you are male, if not then you are female), hormonal gender (if in certain phases of your development certain hormones have a certain abundance in your body, your physiology will end up more male or more female), and psychological gender (Whatever you subjectively identify more with).

Is it real? The first two, certainly. The last one, it appears so.

>Is transgenderism a mental disorder, and if so, is reassignment surgery really the best way to go about treating it?
In my opinion, yes, it's a mental disorder, I'd even say that is pretty clear. I'm not sure about reassignment surgery. Maybe there's not much more you can do, maybe there is, it's hard to say. Many trans people claim that having their physical appearance match their perceived gender is giving them enormous satisfaction. On the other hand, suicide rates among post-OP transgender people is through the roof.

So I don't know and I don't care. It's not my decision to make.

It is the best /current/ solution. Just like back in WW1 the best current solution to an infection was amputation rather than antibiotics. I'm sure in the not too distant future there will be a better solution than chopping off dicks and boobs.

Heya /Sci/-figs. I have a question that I want to know an answer on multiple fronts. Like Etymology and Physics/Space.

Obviously most of us here know what Supernova/Supernovae are but I want to know. What exactly is a "Nova" or "Novae"? When trying to google this sort of stuff I get differing results and contradictions.

What is a Nova both in meaning and in space and physics? Obviously a Supernova is a super version of a nova, but what the fuck's a nova?

Presuming a powder like soylent contains absolutely everything our body needs to function, absolute perfect optimized nutrition with all the macronutrients, vitamins (pic) etc, can humans consume it indefinitely?

Does our body metabolize liquid food as well as solid food? Will our jawbones diminish from not chewing? Are there any other sideeffects I havent thought about?

TLDR; Can we perform optimally on a liquid diet containing the neccessary nutrition?

I feel like your shits would all be liquidy and you'd get real sick of it. Soylent is an interesting concept but I seriously doubt anyone buying it is not retarded

Yes, people in fact do survive on all liquid diets, and if you want to go really far, you can survive on intravenous nutrition. I don't see your jaw diminishing that much, but you could chew gum if you were that worried

particle, wave, photon are just different levels of abstraction for the same phenomenon. I prefer the wave definition just because I can woo girls by drawing pic related.
