Let A and B be two matrices such that AB is defined. If AB=A, does it automatically imply that B is the identity matrix of the order of the number of columns in A? There was a question saying that if AB=A and BA= B, prove that AA=A and BB=B. Pic related is the retarded solution they gave for it. I thought the most obvious way to proceed would be by saying that AB=A implies that B is the identity matrix. And hence BB must equal B, since I^2=I. Similarly, since BA=B, A=I. So, A=B=I. And AA= BB=I. Can there ever be a matrix B that is not the identity matrix such that AB=A? INB4 this website is 18+.

Plz give example. OX is always O when OX is defined, r-right? How is this related in any way? AB=AC does not imply that B and C are equal. So, going by that line of thought, if C is I, B need not be I. But I can't really think of an example to convince myself.

So... you're telling me that V-E+F=2

So a sphere has 1 vertex and 1 face and no edges, huh?

Really makes you think...
9 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>8452924
Incorrect. All you know is that V = E. Geometrically, a circle is sometimes defined as the limit of a regular n-gon as n goes to infinity. A regular n-gon has n vertices and n sides. Lazy bait, try harder next time.
>>
>>8452931
so you're telling me that a sphere has 2 faces?

now this REALLY makes me think...

>>8452932
yes, the inside is one face and the outside is the other

Why does the lift coefficient increase at negative enough angles of attack? I asked my professor, and he said he'd never really thought about it before. I'm guessing it's flow separation on the bottom of the wing, so like a stall in reverse?

Anyone got any idea?
>>
>>8452905
> so like a stall in reverse
Yes. Just think of a symmetrical airfoil; the effect of stall will be the same in the positive and negative case. Assymetrical airfoils are a bit different but you get the idea.
>>
I have literally never seen that behavior before. Maybe flow separation? You have seriously got me thinking.

Curious by the way, does this guy practice on himself? I know the Singularity guy takes thousands of vitamins, I'm assuming that his practice won't work since he takes a very reductionist approach. Bet he has expensive piss.

Personal Analytics[edit]
The significance data has on the products Stephen creates transfers into his own life. He has an extensive log of personal analytics - including emails received and sent, key strokes made, meetings and events attended, phone calls, even physical movement dating back to the 1980s. He has stated "[personal analytics] can give us a whole new dimension to experiencing our lives"[66]

He's an egomaniac who is without a doubt very intelligent. Nevertheless, he spends so much time sniffing his own farts that he's likely not gonna be all that influential in the grand scheme of things, despite the fact that he claims to have made "a new kind of science"

I have a question /sci/. It's either you or his but there's too many memespouters on his so I ask you instead.

Is there any non-tinfoil hat tier source on the Baghdad Battery?

I'm interested about modern reconstructions and their performance(voltage, internal serial resistance etc.) as well as something concrete on whether it really was a battery or not.

What are billiard balls and pool tables useful for describing or providing a metaphor to in physics and science?

Is there anything that can be adequately described with billiard balls?

On that note, what about some other metaphors commonly used in teaching science, such as the water pressure <--> properties of electricity metaphor, where voltage is pressure and amperage is the volume of water. Do you think these metaphors are useful or suboptimal at best?

Should we stop using metaphors like this altogether in teaching science or are they helpful?

There is some decent analogies between momentum and angular momentum that make it easier to understand one if you got the other.
Same with electronics and heat transfer. You can draw circuit diagrams for the latter and use some of the same tactics to analyse them.

I see no reason not to teach like this.
>>
>>8452643
One of the metaphors billiards balls might help represent is the splitting of the atom, when a tiny particle slams into that big nucleus it makes it unstable and its particles fly apart everywhere, releasing a tremendous energy

Previously they didn't come apart because no billiards balls were flying into them at high speed but now that they are, they come apart and roll across the table and towards one of the six holes (significance of the holes is irrelevant here)

With that mindset your experience will just be a self-fulfilling prophecy. There's chance involved with whether your problem is solvable or has application you didn't expect, but you can be confident that you'll develop skills if you practice them.

That's human fucking nature, virtually nothing--outside of long distance running--has been shown to have a barrier that cannot be overcome through practice and training.

We're God damn experts at honing a craft through practice and dedication, we've evolved brains that suit just this purpose. This isn't the end, but we're currently the peak of billions of years of biology all culminating in our endless potential. Stop squandering yours because of some wishy washy limpwristed fear and claim the understanding that's rightfully yours.
>>
>>8452514
Ah, thank you for your positive outlook! Now, does understanding count as a skill? Should understanding be honed before diving into a specific skill or does it generally improve as you learn a new skill?
>>
>>8452526
To be more clear: is it okay to learn one skill at a time? Is it crippling to try to learn too many skills at a time? I wish I could learn everything! Should I start with everything, or start with a single thing?
