Professor scanned part of this plasma physics book from the 60's. I don't understand what the colon notations mean... any help /sci/?
They're just references.

could it simply denote ratios?

Look here.
What happens in a person's body if they receive a blood transfusion but don't already have blood loss? How much extra blood can a body handle? What happens if a person has too much blood?
What do you think blood doping is?
Look up TACO (transfusion associated circulatory overload)
Also for interest look up chelation needs for people that have frequent transfusions... Iron builds up over time.

>it's legit
well I learned something on /sci/ today
So i'm hella sick and I have a personal dilemma to solve. I have had 40°C fever for 4 days now and I can't decide what to do anymore. My options are:
>Take an 400mg ibuprofen pill to lower your body temperature by sweating for around 5 hours continuously. Can't catch any sleep by doing this.
>Do not take the pill but bare the headache till you fall asleep for around 45 minutes
>>8449505
>asking 4chan for medical advice
>become unsick
or
>maybe become unsick
You'll likely pass out regardless

Go see a doctor you retarded faggot.
How come the solution to powering Artifical gravity isn't as simply as putting magnates on the side of an elliptical ship and control long the strength of the magnets? The only problem I can think of is piloting would be a bitch
I've illustrated an example
Where is the person in this model and how is he experiencing gravity?
>>8449418
A little riminder that people are not magnetic
>>8449635
>magnetic clothing
>floor of ship is magnetic
granted, it would probably make nearly every device on the ship non usable.
Can anyone simplify the idea behind Complex numbers?
I would like to understand why most Quantum Physics theories are based of this and why is it coherent to accept them as a precise and inductive type of mathematics?
>>8449392
haha xD only math nerds will understand this one !
>>8449393
That is why I am asking!
What do you not understand about them anon? Essentially it's just a 2D vector of 2 real numbers, one of which is multiplied by the imaginary unit i. i satisfies the equation i^2 = -1 [on this note I'd like to add that saying i = sqrt(-1) is sort of wonky since you lose uniqueness, but 'it werks' so engineers do that regardless].
In a way complex numbers are a lot more natural to 'end on' than reals are, seeing that now you have an inverse to any standard operation.
>Deduct that our universe has to be a simulation, makes no sense otherwise and is pretty much widely accepted for years and years
>Suddenly normies hear about this fact, start having an existential crisis and making up reasons and having wild assumptions as to why this a "more legitimate" basal reality
I find it funny that some these people are the same people will defend (not that there is anything wrong with it) conscious upload and the like.
>>8449387
>makes no sense otherwise
is less likely* at best
>widely accepted for years and years
by whom?
Define simulation.
>>8449387
>Doesn't believe in god, a greater being, a creator who created all life
>Believes that our world is just a simulation
Doesn't that contradict each other? Not saying that this is you, but I am sure there are a lot of edgy popsci fan atheists who happily bash religion yet totally believe in the simulation hypothesis since first hearing it. Pic somewhat related.
Im taking the GRE in 2 hours sci

why does sneezing feel like a mini orgasm?
>>8449290
That's a good question. Just a while ago I tried inquiring /sci/ if there's any studies on the neurochemistry of sneezing but didn't really get any answers.
Apparently most people don't even really notice the euphoria of sneezing. It's hard to say if this is a matter of attention or different wiring.
what
sneezing just hurts a little for me
>>8449331
the build up to a sneeze feels exactly like the build up to an orgasm only difference is that it's around your face and not penis
What practical use does ionization (preferably first) energy even have? Does knowing much energy it takes to knock an electron out have any real use?
The answer is none?
It allows us to tell if a reaction will be spontaneous or not
>>8449195
thats it? Is first ionization a truely useless study?
What do you call numbers which can only be written as a fraction? Strictly rational numbers?
>>8449103
Fractions can be written as decimals so I guess you mean the empty set.
[math]\mathbb{Q} \setminus \mathbb{Z}[/math]?
>>8449103
Rational numbers.
That's the word.
If every human were to disappear tomorrow, would 0.999... still equal 1?
The only reason it is is because of how we construct the number and because of our notion of number. It is entirely possible for a 4.4 dimensional creature, such as yourself, a frogposter, that depend on an entirely new and more advanced notion of number that will result in 0.9999... != 1
>>8449097
Who would know!
>>8449097
If all humans disappeared, there'd still be women. and at least one of them is a math major who'll perpetuate this meme equation.
Is [math]0 \geq x > 2[/math] the negation of [math]0 < x \leq 2[/math]?
>>8449088
no.
[math] 0 \geq x [/math] or [math] x> 2 [/math]
>>8449100
That's not negation, that's the complement.
I'd say the answer is [math]-2 \leq x < 0[/math]. That is, the negation of [math]x \in (a, b][/math] is [math]x \in [-b, -a)[/math]. This is nice, because if [math]x[/math] can only have one value, then the negation is [math]-x[/math] like it should be.
What is the best way of catching rodents you know/can come up with?
Clearly, it can't be lethal since the best way to ultimately get rid of them is to create a mouse (rat) cannibal and let it go (Mouster or Hannirat if you will).
Protip: simplicity and elegance, not complexity and contrivence, are signs of intelligence

What?
How do you motivate yourself to work your ass off for another day?
Every time i work i fap and then i feel better for work simple...
I have long term goals that I use a motivation to overcome my short-term bursts of laziness
>>8449093
Do you just think about the long term goals and that's enough to get you started? I have long term goals too but it's so easy to say "i still have time, i'll start in an hour/day/week"
