The thought of CRISPR being the end of disease scares me. I don't want disease to be cured. Otherwise no niggers would be dying in Africa. Then we're all fucked.
Tell me /sci/ Give me some hope, some hope, that CRISPR is not the end of disease.

lucky for you there's no moderation
>>8445704
Nature will probably find a way to circumvent it and we get even more deadly diseases, don't worry.
>>8445704
Viruses evolve just like we do. They will find a way to survive and we will have to deal with the most resistant and deadly organisms in the world. It's gonna be another black plague era but much more horrific.
>hhurhrr I learned more from [insert meme science youtube channel] than I ever did in physics class!!!! XXDD THIS IS WHY I FUCKING LOVE SCIENCE!!!!!!
>>8445596
I have never heard anyone ever say that.
>>8445600
clearly you've never been on youtube before
>>8445603
You actually read the comments? Isn't the first rule of youtube to not read the comments?
Why do mathematicians like to find creative ways to draw penises?
>>8445132
math is gay thats why

Most of the funding of a university come from the popular degrees, like engineering and the effect of this is that then people who manage the budget end up being people who previously managed these faculties. Thus many engineers have high positions at universities, therefore they choose who gets the money.
As this is the case, sometimes mathematicians may want to get into some engy pandering research inbetween their real research to get the people on top to give them raises or give more money to their department.
Heck, research shows that if your grant proposal has the word "dick" written on it then your proposal will have a 6.9% higher chance of being approved than an equivalent proposal with no mention of dicks.
Mention of black dicks specifically increase your odds to 10%
It is called pleasing the crowd and in this case the crowd is a group of engineers and if there is anything that pleases them is cock.

Multiplication, how this shit makes any sense to you?
You have 0.5 * 0.5 = 0.25
0.5 multipied by 0.5 give you smaller number
Do you get it?
You have 0.5^2 and as result, smaller number.
WHAT THE FUCK
Most of you could easily memorize answer and joke on me.
But I doubt that there is many people on /sci/ able to explain it
>>8444843
0.5 = 1/2
1/2 * 1/2 = 1/4 = 0.25
you have half an apple. that half apple compared to a whole apple is 0.5 of the whole apple. half of half of an apple which is like 0.5 of the half apple is 0.25 of an apple
>>8444843
multiplying by 1/2 is the same as dividing by 2, brainlet

is that pic sex?
The real redpill is to realize that the Earth has both flat areas and non-flat areas. Therefore it's simultaneously both flat and non-flat.
What are some /sci/ approved mechanical pencils?
I like pentel's graphgear 500, however it is prone to jamming. Also, I use .7 lead.
Please respond
>>8444731
those cheap ones at wal mart, i have .5 and .7.
Pentel Side-FX.
No-frills. Ergonomically more comfortable due to the hexagonal barrel. They're also durable and inexpensive.
Here is some easy math to make your day. :D
Y=2^X meanwhile X is an integer between 0 and Infinity.
What is the sum of all possible solutions?
a) 1
b) 2
c) Infinity
d) -1/43
e) WHAT? I don't give a fuck!
Please explain your choise!
I choose e) xD
I FUCKING LOVE SCIENCE !!
Y=2,4,8,16
Y/2 = 1,2,4,8,16
(Y/2)-1 = 2,4,8,16
(Y/2)-1 = Y
Y-1 = 2Y
Y = -1
Sci, wikipedia says that the areas over these two intervals are the same, but i want a proof of this, and i'm too retard to do it myself, but i can´t find the proof in english. just need a hint.
You can do it trivially in a number of ways but if you are looking for the very geometric proof people from this era did their stuff in I dont have it.
>>8444273
The proof only has 1 step
b/a = d/c
ln(b) - ln(a) = ln(d) - ln(c)
Area(a,b) = Area(c,d)
QED
>>8444397
I meant the geometric proof, sorry for not pointing it out.
To what organ are red eyes associated with, i know red eyes come from dilated blood vessels and shit but what connection does it have with the internal organs. Example is how alcohol leaves those little red veins on your cheeks after a heavy night of drinking. That's associated with the liver.
>>8443816
Anon, eyes are a sensory organ.
>>8443817
ik but there has to be more
>>8443816
Depending on the cause, a combination of the lymphatic (Immuno-response/spleen), and the circulatory system.
> "Since 1989, the Walk [to end Alzheimer's] has raised more than $492 million for Alzheimer care, support and research."
So where is the money for neurodegenerative research going, and how close are we to a cure?
>>8443129
It's going to Hillary's foundation.

>how close are we to a cure?
Unfortunately, not very.
In Alzheimer's theres a longer period of slow and difficult-to-measure decline, followed by a sharp dropoff of sudden decline. Research and drug development has stupidly chosen to focus on the later-stage sharp dropoff because the differences are easier to measure.
It's too late in the game at that point. What we need before we can do anything is efficient pickup of biomarkers so we can focus on the earlier stages.
With the robotics book (>>8418462) we're at the end of the chapter, facing the first set of exercises. They are on probability theory and I'm gonna make a photo of the first 2.
Though as a recap, despite notable effort of moderation, going slow and low, and a topic that borders many fields, the participation is extremely low (2 people read the link to the strawpoll at the end of the last thread and voted). It was the same when I tried reading Landau and in the intro to logic.
You guys of /sci/, is there any subject or book that could potentially catch on, so that at least 7 or so anons would participate and discuss and do some calculations/coding/tasks? Like at the scale of a 3h/week private investment.
Anyway, the robotics book is here
https://docs.ufpr.br/~danielsantos/ProbabilisticRobotics.pdf
and another anon and me implemented the discrete example stated in the middle of the first chapter as a Terminal game in Python resp. Ada. I discussed them in

>I thought secondary education was a scam, have no thirst for knowledge and thus survive on weed and repairing car engines with the occasional assistance of my parents
Is studying too much actually bad for you, or is it just a meme?
>>8454180
Only if you don't get enough exercise.
>>8454192
This. As long as your body produces enough BDNF via exercise, it will strengthen your neurons despite their strain from studying. But stress AKA cortisol is disintegrative to neurons and sleep deprivation is horrible for the brain
>>8454180
It's good heuristic advice to diversify your activities. If you really like studying and you want to learn a lot, then go for it. But you should not let other important parts of your life (health, relationships, career, etc.) go by the wayside. And for your sanity, it is probably a good idea to have a hobby or two that is relatively mindless.
