We spend billions on ITER that hasn't produced any energy and then we laugh at cold fusion. Do all scientists have stocks in wind/solar?

Deuterium oxcide and an electrolytic substance would not create the right conditions for "cold fusion".

Try, like many others have and see for yourself.
>>
>>8568710
Isn't this just the process for isolating deuterium for fusion experiments? I know very little about nuclear physics but this looks like a basic electrolysis set up.
>>
We know fusion is possible because that's how the sun works; it's just really hard to get it to work properly on Earth.

Cold fusion is not possible. Fusion is where you get atoms close enough together that the nuclear forces (strong at very short distances) become stronger than the electromagnetic force. You do this by putting them at enough temperature and pressure to fly together really fast. Cold fusion is the idea that you can somehow turn off the electromagnetic force to avoid this; which you can't.

What is the best way to UNDERSTAND the unit circle and not MEMORIZE it???

Well first off, its a circle, and secondly, it has units.

Understand?

What exactly makes the unit circle so hard for /sci/ to grok?
>>
>>8568426
memorize the cardinal directions
pi/4 are all the same magnitude, in that case just think of which quadrant
for pi/6 and pi/3: the angle with the smaller number on the bottom is the larger angle. if you think about what that looks like and also think about the relative sizes of sqrt(3)/2 and sqrt(1)/1, you can figure out all the sines and cosines from there, and that gives you the rest of them

thats how i do it even now

Inform me about nootropics, /sci/. I've been obsessed for years about conditioning myself to deal with ADHD without adderall or other chemical solutions to my problem, and to a large degree I've been successful, but lately I've been wondering whether I should just bite the bullet and start taking adderall along with other cognition-enhancing drugs. The temptation of becoming "smarter" (to put it in a simple, reductionist term) through external performance-enhancers is growing stronger day by day, and I'm starting to peruse online suppliers. So tell me about them, and your experiences with them, and perhaps any advice you have on the matter.

Also, sorry for the clickbait-tier image.

Your an idiot for wanting to take drugs.

Legitimately the only personal account of non-prescription drug usage I have was that of counselling a Dutch internet acquaintance through his experiences with cocaine and how it made him an invincible social predator with no conscience and hyperawareness. Maybe I should actually try and talk with him again, he's probably tried every cognition-enhancer out there

I hope this is appropriate for this board. Sorry if it isn't.

I am in desperate need of help in finding a method of removing dust from the air.

A loved one of mine is having severe bronchial reactions to dust in their home. This is becoming a serious health issue for an otherwise healthy person. Other factors can set them off, but dust seems to be a major trigger. Their house is dusty, and it isn't as simple as cleaning. Cleanings must be coordinated with them leaving the house for extended periods, as vacuuming puts dust into the air. Yes, we currently have plans to dispose of fabric items which hold dust such as pillows, couches, and carpeting. We have already begun to throw away dust laden objects.

As part of a permanent solution, I'm trying to find and purchase an air filter to continuously remove dust from the air. Any advice or information would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Leave the windows open for a few hours each day. Low humidity is what is causing the adverse reaction,
>>
>>8567999

It's winter here.

We did get a humidifier and it is helping. There's noticeable improvement, but it still isn't enough. The dust is the main trigger. Its seems like the dust comes from the dryer, skin, and other sources. No sign of mold in the house.

-put your main notes into some cheepo tablets.

-compile all the good stuff from homework and notes into a nice looking document file (or another nicer, smaller notebook)

-instead of shitposting on your phone or playing angry birds when you are taking a shit or waiting for your big mac, read a page or two.

-do this all day and it adds up to a couple hours of study time

-enjoy not having to cram at the last minute or do power study sessions every week

OP here, wanted to wait until the thread got rolling. I'm currently learning Gregg shorthand (Notehand series to be specific). I know a lot of people don't think it's worth learning since we having recording tech now, but I like it because you don't have to go through all your recordings, which may be several hours every day and you can increase the amount of notes you take in class within the same time period. Plus since I rewrite a lot of my notes back to longhand after class, so it forces me to reread my notes

The simplest shorthand worth learning is Speedwriting

pic is not Gregg, but it looked nice

why would it be anything but 1 ton? Speed/velocity will not effect weight.

I think you may be confusing this with what people may colloquially refer to as "force" when talking about accidents.

suppose S = 1+2+... = -1/12
then T = S-1 = 2+3+... = -13/12
and R = T - S = 1+1+... = -1
but R+1 = R = R-1, so
... = -2 = -1 = 0 = 1 = 2 = ...

since the two rationals r/s and p/q are equal if r*q = p*s, we have
|{ p/q : p, q are in N with q != 0 }| = 1

finally, if we construct the real numbers using dedekind cuts, we find that each cut is the same set. hence all real numbers are equal

I'm only toe deep in calculus but isn't OP wrong (aside from other problems) because zeta(s) is only defined for real part s > 1 without any other fuckery? Why do people keep falling for this meme?

Because even 6-graders (that is, majority of /sci/ population) can comprehend its absurdity and say "lol math us so crazy)))) :DDDDD".
You are right, zeta function is defined like that only when s>1, the analytic continuation doesn't have that form.

Self-important guy who's also genuinely fairly important. Hurt his influence by making dubious predictions about how important some of his work was, and by upsetting another self-important guy who was a lot more charismatic. The latter used him as a tool to show how great and understanding he was.

Known and loved by undergrads for pragmatic reasons.

I hate the normie "lel woulda never passed calc without this guy XDDD!!" meme

Also not saying that the symbolic computation stuff isn't impressive, but it's baffling how normies are so impressed by dumb shit like natural language input ("dood I can type in 'wut is da square root of two' instead of just learning some simple syntax!!!") and searching the internet for trivia ("omg it can tell me the average temp. of lima, peru in january!!!")

I am pondering. Answer a few questions, is that how you think the brain works? Do you think the brain is a Turing machine?
>>
>>8566080
No. Incompleteness is a fundamental restriction.
>>
>>8566080
There are models of ZFC that contain smaller models of ZFC inside them. That's the whole point of inaccessible cardinals. But that doesn't mean jack shit for the incompleteness theorems.

Hi / Sci /, I'm really interested in quantum computing, but the relative novelty of the topic and the fucking hype around it has transformed google on a peasant science fest (Refer to http://www.smbc-comics.com/comic/the-talk-3 to free yourself from common misconceptions). Hence why I'm posting my questions about the field here:

First of all, do you think it's a meme science or just another matter of interest?
>tl;dr : don't answer the latter and commence shitposting.

Second question : as an introducting book, which is the best between "An introduction to quantum computing" by Kaye, Laflamme & Mosca or "Quantum computing: a gentle introduction" by Rieffel & Polak?

Third : Since I am more interested in the enginnering of a quantum transistor, will my level in quantum computing developped enough with a book from 2) or do I need something more advanced (like Nielsen & Chuang) before i get to the engineering part ?

Fourth : speaking of the engineering, is there a more hardware oriented book ?

Fifth : what topic can be good to complete my current knowledge in electrical engineering before I enter the subject ? I've obviously thought about QED, QFT & supraconductivity for the physics fields but i'm not sure of what kind of maths i'll need (beside all the complex analysis) ?

Finally, what are the most advanced uni/research poles on the field atm ?

Thx for your time fellas
