I have a question guys.

I was thinking about doing a shackle lift on my Jeep XJ. I have read that extended rear shackles can cause the leaf springs to wear out faster than normal due to the adjusted angle which would shift where the majority of the weight would distribute throughout the leaf spring. However, any pics I have seen of this occurring is with old rusty leaf springs. I currently have brand new leaf stock size spring replacements that I will be putting in soon.

I only plan on possibly lifting this vehicle about 2". With such a small lift and new leaf springs, will this be an issue for me at all? If so, how long would it take for 2" shackles to start wearing out my leaf springs? Any input would be appreciated.

lifting will strain all your suspension and driveline components senpai. just take a look at your wheel well and everything you see in there will be strained.
>cv joints
>axles
>bushings
>control arms
>engine mounts
>suspension

you cant just lift the rear axle dumb dumb. you need to lift all the wheels or your car is going to look like a stanced piece of shit.

also the only reason to lift is to be able to fit larger wheel diameters that dont fit inside the wheel well.
lifting the chassis doesnt magically lift the axles, engine or differentials. increased clearance comes from the the wheel size.

Welcome to 2016 where reasonably light car is 3200 lbs
modern crash requirements make cars heavier

but, around 500 horsepower with a 3200lb curb weight is enough to make your passengers piss their pants.

Is there any sense in buying a 456 for the performance when there are newer, cheaper and faster cars out there?

Does it drive particularly well or have some sort of intangible quality to it that would make it worth the maintenance and headaches over something like a Cayman S, E46 M3, etc.?

Assuming you give literally zero fucks about the heritage of the badge, obviously.

I don't think any newer, cheaper, faster cars have bottomed out in value like the 456.

A new mustang is faster, but will be worth half what you paid in a year.
>>
They are not performance cars, they are very soft, the seat is easily the comfiest I've ever sat in, feels like a La-Z-Boy. They aren't particularly fast, the steering feel is good, the manual trans cars are kind of fun to drive but there's way more autos. The maintenance is rough, the shocks die all the time and only one or two people in the US can rebuild them, any seal can leak at any time just like every Ferrari. If you want performance get a 550 or 575.

/tg/ reporting in. It's time for me to buy a new car. Budget is not a factor, but I have no idea about cars or buying them. This is what I need:

>good mileage
>reliable, will last me 10+ years
>room for three passengers and cargo; a road trip car
>not a pickup truck; I don't do any labor, hauling, etc
>not a full size SUV/hummer; my dick is average
>not a minivan, I don't have kids
>not low to the ground like a normal car (sedan?)
>not a luxury brand, too rich for my blood
>can share it with my wife
>new, not used

Currently considering the 2016 Rav4 Hybrid. Thoughts?

Does anybody know what the duck this dial is? My little brother just bought a 2003 350z and it has this aftermarket dial underneath the dash. When you switch it it makes a beeping noise that sounds like R2D2. It corresponds with a small led on the steering column

Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha make starter models
All are pretty reliable and can be found used at a fair price

Hondas are indestructible, suzukis are cheap fun, kawasakis are rice tier, Yamaha are memes (except <09 r1s)
>>
>>14910422
That's what I've heard, in the same situation as OP.

I'm probably going for a Honda because muh reliability. Starting out with a 125cc, so it's either going to be shittons of 2-wheeled fun, or a slow heap of shit no matter what the brand.
I just want it to hold together/hold resale value while I gain experience and plan a bigger bike.

It's easy to find a solid one under 150k on the clock. Keep up on routine maintenance and she'll do you good.

Hey /o/ I need some advice

I'm current a student and I drive a Mazda 3 2009 but with 165k miles. I'm thinking of picking up a part time and I've gotten multiple calls from a delivery company for food that will most likely hire me. As far as I know it's basically like pizza delivery except with restaurants. Same food delivery type of deal. Anyways considering the year and miles on the car how bad am I going to fuck up my car if I do this? I've been told since it's 2009 I really shouldn't even worry but now since it also has 165k miles in it already that this may make a difference but I don't know shit about cars. I've had the car for a year now and I haven't had any problems with it. I barely ever drive it except for school and hanging out.

What if I just did it for a year? Will my car make it?

Does it have any current issues that need addressing?
Just keep up on maintenance and you should be ok. Thinks like oil changes, coolant flushes, transmission servicing, brake servicing, brake and power steering servicing, keeping gaskets/hoses that go bad seem in rough shape changed. That stuff will keep your car running along nicely even if you do a delivery service. If it's heavy city stop and go driving you may want to shorten the intervals since that is some of the toughest on your car.

Also at those miles things like timing belts and valve cover gaskets probably need changing by now.
Oh and don't forget the air filter and spark plugs/cables.

Refer to the owners manual for recommended intervals and other specs.

Thanks this really made me feel better. I felt like I was going to destroy or damage something that can't just get taken care of by maintenance, I don't know shit about cars.

I didn't see any Stupid questions thread so I'm gonna ask some here

My friend tells me the reason why my rims have a reddish brown powder around them even though I constantly was them is because it's the brake pads. They are most likely ceramic or something. Is that true? This shit makes me rage because it just makes the car look dirty at all times. Is it just a matter of getting different break pads I guess?

How does /o/ feel about plasti dipping rims? My car is the same exact color and model in the OP and I was thinking of making the rims black. Will it look like shit or nah? The rims currently are pretty chipped up from my shitty parking skills but I've gotten better to the point where it never happens any more but the damage has already been done.

Also how I paid 5.5k for this car. How bad did I fuck up. It was in a small accident previously apparently but from what I could tell it just cosmetic shit since I've had 0 problems since I've been driving with it.
>>
>>14909965

Dunno much about plastidipping, isn't the durability of that stuff kind of lax? I hear they peel after a while. Might be worth some researching before you go and do it.

The reddish brown stuff is brake dust. If you get higher quality pads you'll probably see less of it. Don't go for the "gold" tier pads at Discount Auto if that's where you go. Since brakes are such an essential part of driving along with tires it's worth the money to get the best. Check some forums where Mazda 3 fans congregate and find out what they think is best for this make and model or go with OEM, can't go wrong with OEM. (most of the time)

5.5k is about what I see them go for on CL for around 120k miles+
With an accident on record you could probably have negotiated a lower price. Check the stick for tips on how to buy a used car and avoid getting a lemon. As long as you don't see any frame damage then I guess you're good. Do the brake test on the sticky to see if the suspension is ok. Do an eye inspection of the underside too.
