I went from not knowing how to drive stick to driving a 9 speed 44ton rig in the span of ~3 months

I now drive an automatic in the event that one of my family members needs to borrow my car, but I'd like to get an older car with a manual transmission for driving myself around

it was noble. but unfortunately it opens the door for mechanics to slap you with ridiculous labor charges for minor shit that isnt even a problem and that would fuck you over as in my case, major engine work they tried to con me into. it needs to be an impartial state run company, not farmed out to private mechanics because they just see it like winning the lottery. bet they would have tried to charge me a couple of hundred of dollars to change the tail lights if i'd gotten the work done there. absolute faggotry.
