Always hyped for my boy Ariel. Never heard anything from the other broad, anything worth checking out?
Saw Ariel tweet about making music, because everyone said he was (ha). Is this what he was talking about or will he be releasing something else this year?
One of these threads. Post, rec, judge, etc. and actually take the time to fucking reply to others please.

Is Twenty One Pilots the Linkin Park for the teens of this decade?
In that they are a band that mixes "deep" lyrics with rock + rap and just enough experimental stuff to be kind of interesting but not off putting. That sound about right?
linkin park is more patrician

Today's Ira's birthday. Say something nice to him.
cia?
>>70180257
Hey Ira.
You're a huge inspiration for me in terms of songwriting and guitar playing. As a lyricist you're amazing at capturing the fuzzy feeling of new love. As a guitarist I admire how you can so efortlessy transition between the noisiest sounds and regular playing - I'm trying to do that too. I wish you and Georgia well for the coming year, and I hope I'll get to see you guys soon.

Clark sounds like a typical Berklee graduate with a little bit of songwriting talent. Grimes is just a hack.

They're completely different aside from having a vagina.
Annie is one best singer/songwritters and guitarists alive today. Claire makes some good songs now and then.
ITT: artists who think they're Kurt Cobain
>The study by Rentfrow and Gosling (2003) shows that more intelligent individuals prefer “reflective and complex” genre of music (which includes classical, jazz, blues, and folk), but they also prefer “intensive and rebellious” music (alternative, rock, and heavy metal).
>Less intelligent individuals in their study prefer “upbeat and conventional” music (country, pop, religious, and sound tracks).
>In a recent study, Chamorro‐Premuzic and Furnham (2007, p. 177) identify three distinct “uses” of music: “namely emotional (i.e. music for emotional regulation such as mood manipulation), cognitive (i.e. rational musical appreciation or intellectual processing of music), and background (i.e. music as background for social events, work or interpersonal interaction).” Their data show that more intelligent individuals are more likely to use music for “cognitive” purposes, but intelligence is not correlated with the “emotional” use of music

cloud nine is a flippin great album despite the meme tier cover art.
what do you envision as the next genre, or the next spin on a particular type of music, that will come to reinvent and redefine (perhaps infiltrate) the mainstream within the next five years?
where do you see popular music going?
where do you want it to go?
why
>>70179638
i'm just curious what you plebs think.
ultimately, it seems that the general population doesn't really ever have a say in what sort of art they are marketed, and just sort of half-knowingly sustain whatever it is that they are first given (and then refuse all opportunities to change that dynamic). so I think it'd be cool to argue about what the mainstream is really for, and hear what other anons think. is it ours, or is it theirs, which they then give to us?
also, I am a musician with many WIPs and want some perspective on how striving to infiltrate the public eye is viewed today.
the media used to be a tool for geniuses, now it's just a toy for tyrants. don't you want something with more substance?
>>70179920
pic reminds me of twenty one pilots which made me realize - if the mainstream is going in that direction, im more than happy, honestly. i know its a meme here but they are truly a breath of fresh air. that kind of genre-mixing music is the next big thing i think, next to the usual mega celebrities like rihanna/katy perry etc. its nothing new, but for mainstream it is.
>the media used to be a tool for geniuses, now it's just a toy for tyrants
that's some top tier cinical old fart bullshit.
"geniuses" weren't considered that when they first came to the scene, 20 y/o musical prodigies were primarily adored by 15-25 y/o since day one. "geniuses" get that title after years of work, or when they die. the media is the same as it's always been, the only thing that changed is that there's more of it now, but the same thing stands for musical "geniuses".
is this music for sex offenders?
it's music for everyone, so yes
