I'm reading Whatever by Houellebecq and this hit me pretty hard:
"Even supposing that you might have women in the future - which in all frankness I doubt - this will not be enough.
You will always be an orphan to those adolescent loves you never knew."
It left me devastated, what should I read to counter these feels?
give up hope
hope is the source of pain
Take the black pill

More Houellebecq, in chronological order.
what does /lit/ write on/with?
>>9652346
A pen and paper. Anything else is for tryhard pseuds.
yellow paper
a pen that is at least decent

Unironically my diary desu. It's the only way I can order my thoughts and at least develop something resembling a style without feeling weird. No you may not read it. It's trash and for my eyes only.
I absolutely loved this.
Are there any other philosophical books as comfy as Boethius' Consolation of Philosophy?
Is there a chart for medieval scholasticism?
Medieval Lit in general?
Who is the comfiest philosopher?
>>9652236
Plato's very comfy and if you can follow a conversation you can understand him. He also translates well.
Nice toe thumb

we don't cotton to whites around here buddyboy
What is essential Dionysian core?
I'll start with the obvious:
Nietzsche - Birth of Tragedy
Blake - Poems
Baudelaire - Flowers of Evil
Huysmans - Against Nature
Henry Miller - Tropic of Cancer
Celine - journey to the end of the night
The Doors - The Doors (1967)
Can we we a chart for this?
Thomas Mann, Oscar Wilde, Faulkner
Bataille.
Whoops.

Lit didn't ruin your life. Your own retardation did.
Ah well sweetie, it was bound to happen eventually.

Nihilism is . . . not only the belief that everything deserves to perish; but one actually puts one's shoulder to the plough; one destroys" (Will to Power)
Some of the edgiest text I've ever read
What the FUCK did Nietzsche mean by this?
It's not meant to be edgy
He was writing against Christianity and to a lesser extent Buddhism
Did you read Will to Power or did you take that quote out of context?
>>9651841
Im on page 13 right now
Not really digging the Nazi vibe im getting off this book tbwh
>>9651849
Nietzsche also wrote at length against anti-Semites. The Nazis took parts of his philosophy that they liked and used it to their own ends.
Anyone else miss /fitlit/? I really think if that had lasted we would have gotten rid of all the protestants, fedoras, frogposters, redditors, and /pol/cucks that constantly run every thread into the dirt.

I'll be traveling solo for a month soon. It'll most likely be quite introspective. I'll drink in bars, cafés and eat in restaurants alone.
Whilst I want to see the sights and watch the world go by I would like one or two books that will not only entertain, but possibly add something to the trip.
Is there anything you would recommend?

I read the Melancholy of Resistance and Satantango while I was bumming around the world on the skin of my teeth. I wouldn't bring any books unless you're going to start in Africa, most major cities have a bookstore that will cater to your language and I'd recommend going in not knowing what you want. Every time I think I'll enjoy a book while traveling, it never matches my mood, but I always find the right books when I don't know what I'm looking for (while traveling).
I believe Nietzsche was correct about Judaism, Christianity and the slave morality, but I appreciate the church's aesthetic and the provision of a moral backbone and guidance for the people. Is there any reconciling these two views? What christian philosophers would provide a good foil to Nietzsche's criticism?
there's nothing to reconcile, slave morality is for the slaves, master morality is for the ruling class, it's perfectly normal and natural to have both
>>9651624
"master morality" is a code word for being a little bitch that doesn't want to play by the rules. Nietzsche was huge faggot in that regard. He was a weak willed man with no redeeming qualities. Somebody so autistic he resented the fact that he was a German and the son of a priest. I mean he ate so much fruit he shat himself and went mad over looking at a fucking horse.

you're a pleb and that's exactly what plebs are supposed to say...oh it's not fair, trump didn't play by the rules, he went outside of the standard political system, oh clinton is so corrupt it's not fair, oh bill gates he's so mean to linux it's not fair, oh steve jobs he's such a dick he like stole the idea of the mouse from some suits at xerox, not fair at all!!!!1one

What are works that instantly expose tryhard hacks when they talk about them?

Honestly, I'm very intimidated to attempt to read this book. Joseph Campbell himself even had to make a book dedicated entirely to understanding what the fuck was going on, I never realized how full of depth Finnegans Wake is.
>>9651529
>he doesn't appreciate puns and mythology
Finnegans Wake is very difficult but the fact that you actually went ahead and made this thread instead of just picking up one of the several Finnegans Wake readers (hell, http://finwake.com is a good place to start) shows that you're a insecure manlet.
>>9651631
Not OP, but thanks bruv. Finnegans Wake is on my must read list, but that link is very helpful. I'll try and start reading and trying to comprehend things with the held of these guides.

Honestly the Silmarillion was great
But I've tried the Unfinished Tales, and if you want something unreadable, go this way
With no spooky shit prove to me that idealism > materialism
Proof is redundant to Idealism.

Looking for a new fucking book because I can't find any more good ones fuck my life edition.
