i'm too much of a brainlet sorry
>>
Rec center: meat. Need to be strong. Socrates. Every man deserves.... Joyce. He too had this problem. Leopold Bloom in Ulysses when Daedalus is at the counter waiting for him. The early 20th century starting strength was on Poldy's and Joyce's bookcases, undoubtedly. Aurelius though is someone to keep in mind. "If you must exercise then brandish weights but immediately return to philosophy." That's Seneca. Cicero then made it clear that for a wise old age muscles aren't at all a priority.

I should reread Ulysses soon.

How else would people know who fought for the Greeks?
It sounds good in the Greek dactylic hexameter too.

I heard so many complaints about the catalogue of ships prior to reading this that I was dreading coming across it, only to discover it's four fucking pages long. Stop being a bitch and read it. I bet the whaling information in Moby Cock isn't nearly as bad as you all say

Hi guys, i'm a newcomer to this board so sorry if this kind of thread is not allowed.

Do you guys know any other authors or books that follow the hobbesian line of tought?

I'm asking in the sense of social contractualism and human egoistic nature, I've just finished The Leviatan and altough it is kinda outdated on parts of it's ideological content it really resonated with me.

Sorry for my english, as it is plain to see, it's not my native tongue.

"From the Greeks I have not at all felt similarly strong impressions, and to be blunt, they cannot mean as much to me us the Romans. We do not learn from the Greeks — their manner is too foreign and too fluid to create a commanding, "classical" effect. Who could ever have learned to write from a Greek? Who could ever have learned to write without the Romans? Please do not throw Plato at me. I am a complete skeptic about Plato, and I have never been able to join in the customary scholarly admiration for Plato the artist." -- Nietzsche, Twilight of the Idols

Why should I start with the Greeks? Why should I care about them at all?

Nietzsche was a hack. There is nothing more than what is built upon the Greeks.
Sure, you've learned to write from Cicero, but everything else? The Greeks.

I'm curious about any books that depict characters that are similar to the Buddha. We all know about Jesus-like characters, and even characters that re supposed to be Jesus 2.0. But are there any literary characters that are similar to, or that represent the Buddha?

A number of Bodhisattva are inherently Buddha-like.

Buddha, Achilles, Eliot Rogers, A genius, an Autist, a devout man, a rebel and a soldier but somehow all of this and a cringy cuck?

Well? What is it? I don't know what I'm being compared to anymore

Hey guys,
I never posted on here,
I found some shit I wrote back in the day.
It's really bad, but I want to share it and have some feedback on it. Where would I go on to post it? Is there some feedback general or could I do it here?

Just do it here or in the critique thread if one is up right now. I live for cringe, so please entertain me
>>

You got it, man.
Here goes nothing, some excerpts of what I feel is the best I've got:

The ideas are already formulated and long ready to ship out before it even comes out of my mouth, or written down on paper. What was it again? 4 styles of communication? Written, spoken, and two others. Reading.
Oh, and listening. I really need to stress how sorry I am right now. I’m never so apologetic, because I feel it makes me less of a man. I can’t help it at this exact moment because in reality, I’m a mess. That may be true partially to the fact I just got half my skull blown open by a Mossberg 500 pump action shotgun during a really sweet stakeout. You wouldn’t believe the action going on, it’s just like in the movies. I can’t think straight with half my hemisphere hanging out the perfect V-shaped fissure the bullets so neatly crafted into my skull though. Picture a bunch of dudes waltzing in so elegantly in slow motion into a bank, since I work in one, and you’re scared shitless but it looks pretty cool when everything goes slow since your heart is pounding and you know this could be the end for you, which in this case I was the first to go.
>>
>>9692587
That being said, I’m dead.

I am now sitting in what seems to be a circle of iron-rusted chairs that would’ve been branded Mayor’s Choice if I hadn’t known better, with the overtones of what could be alcoholics anonymous. Would make sense, since I’ve had enough 750ml of whisky bottles enough to club an entire mafia branch. They were positioned in horizontal, vertical, diagonal positions. Stonehenge of green hue bottles, with the last bit of alcohol evaporated yet leaving a nice little sticky residue at the bottom enough to give the corner of the room a melancholic smell of a distant abusive relative at a New Year’s Eve party who asked you about what you would like to be once you grow up, when in fact you were already grown up? Explain that.

Can someone recommend me any good true crime books? I'm open to anything as long as it's well written without being too dry and clinical

I know it's summer, but why would you want to read true crime books? Sounds exceptionally boring. May as well read detective novels. At least those are fun.
>>
Irony at it's finest
>>
>>9692481
I find real stories to be more entertaining than made up ones since they're often full of absurd details no author would make up. Detective stories and other mysteries are always too convenient and tidy for me so I don't bother with them. But if you have a great one to recommend I'll definitely check it out.

None. Learn Arabic.
>>
>>9692025
If you don't intend to learn Arabic, Turkish or a Persian translation would do better albeit any of those would be missing since Arabic is a very flexible language and a word may have a hundreds of meanings depending on what kind of side you're reading or thinking about it.

p.s. Read Fazlur Rahman instead.

I'm curious as well I was looking at two at Barnes and Noble yesterday, both titled "The Koran," but they didn't even have similar structure. One had a bunch of books called "sutras" or something, the other one had like 15 stories all called "the cow" and "the hat" and shit.
