Can someone recommend me any good true crime books? I'm open to anything as long as it's well written without being too dry and clinical

I know it's summer, but why would you want to read true crime books? Sounds exceptionally boring. May as well read detective novels. At least those are fun.

I find real stories to be more entertaining than made up ones since they're often full of absurd details no author would make up. Detective stories and other mysteries are always too convenient and tidy for me so I don't bother with them. But if you have a great one to recommend I'll definitely check it out.

Mysteries of Winterthurn is a great post-modern detective novel. It parodies the entire genre, and is written very well. Sherlock Holmes is also obviously great.
I enjoyed the stort "American Kingpin: The Epic Hunt for the Criminal Mastermind Behind the Silk Road."
The actual content is interesting, however the prose is kinda lackluster. I mean, the word "epic" is in the title so that gives you an idea of the book's style. Still, the story itself is pretty engrossing.

Not books but PBS has a great documentary series subtitled American Experience. Check out Ruby Ridge. It's on Netflix.

Yowzer - Can you narrow it down just a smidge? Perhaps to what particular crime types hold your interest: drugs, murder, prostitution, prohibition, fugitives? There's just so much material I don't even know where to begin with recommendations.

>implying all of these crimes don't arise from the foundation of a much more interesting higher level cabal-level crime
