When I was a kid and before I came to believe John of Patmos was probably retroactively writing about events much closer to his lifetime than ours.

These guys were considered the greatest authors of the later half of the 20th Century, but nowadays no one ever talks about them. What went wrong? Are they too old, white and male for the liberals and too politically radical for the conservatives? Are they the victims of changing styles? Were they never that great in the first place?

I often hear about them. You probably won't if you expect to hear them talked about on your 'redpill' boards and websites (and non-existent social circle).

/lit/ fucktards and kids under 21 don't talk about them. who cares what they think

Are there any other examples of someone writing a worthy spinoff/sequel to a universally-adored work centuries after and having it succeed at a similar level?

Anybody read Hobbes, specifically the Leviathan? Thoughts?

We just went over his idea of materialism, and religion in general. I thought it was extremely interesting, and was actually the one take on Christianity I liked.
To try and summarize; He said that there is no external heaven. There also is no Hell, and that Hell is actually just being in nothingness for all eternity. So basically what atheists believe happen when you die.

Because he was a materialist, he said that we have no souls, we are simply a body that is made up of various mechanical parts. When we die, we die and live in Hell (nothingness). Eventually, when God returns, he will resurrect all people and create what is now a barren, lifeless earth, into a Heaven on Earth. From there we will live endlessly.
Thoughts?

Schmitt says that the most important line of Leviathan is "Jesus is the Christ."

It's wonderful isn't it? Quentin's section is my favourite. His memories of he and Caddie slay me. The knife to the throat suicide pact and the twilight-coloured smell of honeysuckle and him wrapping his hands around her neck while saying "Dalton Ames" are some of the most moving moments in all literature for me.

It's not self-evident that she was telling the truth, though Margaret Atwood's personal views seem to indicate that she is supposed to be truthful.

What if Marx was actually the biggest troll in history and exactly planned the entire impact of of his writings on the 20th century just to fuck with people?

Marx applied a rigorous critique to classical political economy, by following its basic concepts to their logical conclusion, and went from there. This was achieved by studying Smith, Ricardo & gang for years when he realized philosophy wasn't good enough to comprehend human society. I guess being a scholar is now trolling.

How do I write a decent romantic subplot in a novel that doesn't belong to the romance genre? I really want to include it because it'll contribute to the character development and whatnot, but I don't want it to become like a tumor and kill the main story. How do I do it?

ever enjoyed a romance in a movie or a book before? figure out what you like about those ones and include those elements in your book
>>
>>9993844
Right, I know that, but what worries me is if they occupy either too much or too little of the story. A lot of romantic subplots in fiction are criticised for either being under or overdeveloped, you know? I want to avoid that landmine.

Never wanted to get /lit/'s opinion so much. It seems like the book you'd hate when told about, but which you perhaps be softened by? Or perhaps not?

I'm reading Jack Kerouac and can see some similarities of style with that of Pynchon's GR (I only previewed the first ~20pgs of GR). Is beat the way to go when easing into GR?

In Slow Learner, Pinecone said he thought On the Road was a great novel ... not sure he feels the same about it now

I'm sure he was aware of Cassidy, Ginsburg and Burroughs, but he's a maximalist. The only thing that prepared me for V and GR is Ulysses
