I'm reading the world until yesterday on my phone in commutes, a few pages at a time. It's too boring to read at home (and i would read a book I potentially liked on short commutes) but it feels like it has some pseud cred. But not as much as guns, germs and steel which I read the same way.

What are some nonfiction books worth reading on a commute but not at home?

As I've posted with multiple other books, the world until yesterday is another book I feel like I have to read only for the pseud cred. It's a boring information dump that could easily be summarised, like guns germs and steel.

I feel you. Contemporary lit and the publishing industry is total garbage. I'm glad it is being annihilated by the tech industry.

I hope Zuck or Bezos or someone else finally drops the axe and puts all these pretenders out of work ASAP.

I've just reread 'The wisdom of Insecurity' and wondered, provided how many books Alan Watts, whether his whole body of work is just a shopping scheme or does it really had to be put into so many little books? Why didn't he put some anthology of ideas instead of making that many books about seemingly same subject?

I found 'The Wisdom' to be rather on subject, but there weren't enough solutions to the problems presented.

I'm not particularly well read, but anything crass, depressive, weird, or just nostalgic will be appreciated. My favorites are Rimbaud, DA Powell, John Wilmot, and Ginsburg. Anything similar to those guys I'll probably like.

If (you) like Rimbaud read Verlaine, or read Ashbery whose translation of the Drunken Boat is remarkably well done. If you like Rochester read Dryden for God's sake, or go back to Henry Wyatt and his group of wits. Or even better read Byron, especially Don Juan (a kind of later, spiritual brother of his).

Any recommendations?

Ellery Queen would fit the bill. These books were very popular when they were first published. I know them from Chuck Palaniuk mentioning that he and his brother read all of them closely. You learn the clues at the same time as Ellery - can *you* solve the mystery first?

There's an active mobi torrent with them on demonoid if you have an e-reader.

Funny you put this picture, because inside the army, while doing my national service was where I saw quotes of mine going into rotation.
It goes both ways though...

I've noticed this while, through reading more, i've become more fluent in my day-to-day conversations, causing your phenomenon. In my native tongue i've started playing with words using techniques like alliteration, or just simple rhyming, without even being aware of it. Quite spontaneously, actually. These word-plays seem to stick around for no apparent reason, other than, I guess, their catchiness.
