Anybody read Hobbes, specifically the Leviathan? Thoughts?
We just went over his idea of materialism, and religion in general. I thought it was extremely interesting, and was actually the one take on Christianity I liked.
To try and summarize; He said that there is no external heaven. There also is no Hell, and that Hell is actually just being in nothingness for all eternity. So basically what atheists believe happen when you die.
Because he was a materialist, he said that we have no souls, we are simply a body that is made up of various mechanical parts. When we die, we die and live in Hell (nothingness). Eventually, when God returns, he will resurrect all people and create what is now a barren, lifeless earth, into a Heaven on Earth. From there we will live endlessly.

Schmitt says that the most important line of Leviathan is "Jesus is the Christ."
