Marx applied a rigorous critique to classical political economy, by following its basic concepts to their logical conclusion, and went from there. This was achieved by studying Smith, Ricardo & gang for years when he realized philosophy wasn't good enough to comprehend human society. I guess being a scholar is now trolling.
