I generally go through phases of balancing multiple books at once to dedicating myself to one singular title. It just depends on the situation. Do what feels right.

My only principle is to not read more than one at a time from the same author or books that are too similar. Also I generally keep it to just one or two at a time.

knausgaard is horrible. fuck off. neapolitan novels would make a good TV series. quite a bit of it is interior thoughts (particularly the scenes when things lose their forms) but the supporting characters are well fleshed out so it'd make a good ensemble cast.

i find that either i love the books as i read them, then tend to forget them afterwards, or i find them hard work and something of a slog, but keep thinking about them later and they grow in my mind
ubik is in the first category, the most purely fun and well constructed tale, but afterwards that was it. but i think my favourite is VALIS, even though i nearly gave up at one point, because it really stayed with me and i think it's such a sincere, original, mind-blowing work.

If you're accusing me of lying then I can only tell you that I am not and hope that you believe me. After months spent in the Eden-like refuge of my imagination I have again been forced to confront a world in which I can only suffer and long to escape. Wasn't knocking the individual experience. Hell I don't know maybe one day I'd like to divulge in a bit of meth or heroin or maybe a meme or two. However the overall impact of these things are pretty awful and I think even worse than meth heads or crack heads are memeheads.
