Just finished Name of the Wind
The bad:
>Main character is teenage a cuck
>Nothing big really happens in the book
>Main character is some kind of superhero, way too smart compared any other characters in the book, always know the answer and always know what to do
>Some of the characters feel very dull, for example the main character's two best friends, i can't even remember their names and characteristics.
>The world doesn't feel immersive and rich, the author only describes the environment around the protagonist.
>Bad environment description overall, i honestly couldn't imagine how some of the main scenes (main cities, university etc) look like.
>Muh muzik3deep5u
The good:
>Godtier writing. probably the best writing i ever saw in a fantasy book
>The magic \ spell system is unique and well thought, it's not just stupid pew pew magic, it's science & physic based.
>Decent sub-stories alongside the main story.
Final score : 8\10.
I'm not 100% i'll read the next book.

Cool blog.

Next book is better. Expands. Also, you have to realize his story is character driven so it makes sense to center the worldbuilding around the character. It reads like Arabian Nights for a reason.
>>7988722
>Godtier writing
Lmao
There was a thread about this fatass earlier today about how his books are entirely self-insert wish fulfillment, featuring an immortal sex goddess who tells the protag that she doesn't believe he's a virgin because he's just SO GOOD AT SEX WOW. Shit is just so laughably stupid that I could never take the book seriously after that if I tried to read it.
Didn't that crazy autist say he was going to release the first chapter of his six part memoir today?
I set a reminder on my phone and everything...
so who's the autist in this situation again?
Is this pizza manuscript delivery guy?

btw we all know you're him trying to drum up interest, fuck off
What is a good thesis statement about Rabbit Angstrom?
writing tutor here,
answer these questions, and you should arrive at a thesis worth writing about:
What's the story about?
What was rabbit like when he was young? What's rabbit like in the story?
How do you think Rabbit's youth influenced his life?
Can you flesh that out into a complete sentence?
Well where's your proof? Do any of the characters say or do anything that would lead you to believe this?
Show me in the book why you believe this.
Great these can make up evidence for why your claim is valid.
Good luck, don't forget to sign out.
Updike sux. Read Cheever.
"Rabbit Angstrom never developed into an emotional adult, and neither did John Updike"
Which is a good book about world's history in general?

It's way too general a subject to be doing the subject any justice, but people attempt it anyway.
Braudel's is pretty good, though I have some issues with it.
/lit/ has often said H.G.Wells The Outline of History is also good
>>7988440
There are no good books about world history in general, as to be a good book about history it would have to be a good history, and there are no good general histories.
I know this book is a meme here but I honestly love it

I have to write a Walt Whitman themed poem, but me being the dipshit i am, i am completely lost on what to even start writing about. Can anyone make sense of this prompt? Im not asking to write a poem for me just to make sense of the prompt
it should be about sex
Where's the sticky/ copypasta/ faq for that tells stupid newfriends like me how to get better at writing /lit/erature? I already tried the wiki, it's only what to read, not how to write.
>>7988349
>thinking that a faq or a guide can actually help you get better at writing
OP, just start fucking writing. Then read it and weep because it's shit. Then read the works of the masters, and attempt to imitate them to make it less shit. Then read your work again and cry again because it's shit. Then read more, then cry more. Read, cry, read, cry, read, cry, read, cry, read...TRIUMPH
Post self-published books you've found that are actually decent. Recommendations welcome. Try to avoid accusations of self-plugging. Not everyone is advertising.
Pic related was a 7/10 read for me, mostly just because I can relate to it.
Fuck wrong image
Is this book a meme ?
Theyre good books, just pick up book 1 and start reading. They're as easy to read as murakami.
>"The resistance to starting a book by Houellebecq is too great. I’m not entirely sure where it comes from, though I do have a suspicion, because the same thing goes for the films of Lars von Trier: When “Antichrist” came out I couldn’t bring myself to see it, neither in the cinema nor at home on the DVD I eventually bought, which remains in its box unwatched. They’re simply too good. What prevents me from reading Houellebecq and watching von Trier is a kind of envy — not that I begrudge them success, but by reading the books and watching the films I would be reminded of how excellent a work of art can be, and of how far beneath that level my own work is" - le Norwegian Proust
This is the cunt that europoors rank as one of their greatest contemporary writers.
I think we can agree America wins again.

He's being ironic, right?
How do you people edit you're writing? It's do damn difficult for me.
The fun of writing to me is the planning part and the actual writing part. The parts where you feel like you're really letting your creativity flow and you're expressing yourself.
But editing is like this nightmare of gruelingly scrutinizing every mistake in your writing. It feels tedious, and at worst, depressing.
How do you do it /lit/? Any tips?
Editing and bitching about writing general I guess.

Reading your own work will always be emotionally draining. I've shown stuff to others that they unironically love that I'll never publish.
Write your draft by hand. Get a nice pen or a smooth pack of pencils. Rewrite while you're typing.
>>7988285
>write by hand, rewrite while typing
That's actually really smart, I'll try that next time
Why does /lit/ like this book so much, considering that it was incredibly influential to the modern YA novel? You could even call it a precursor.
John Green raves about how it's one of his biggest influences.
