Thoughts on Cicero / Essential readings?
>>8239308
Based. On Friendship is a good one to start with. Cicero is actually basically all that exists of middle stoicism; if you're interested in that De Finibus is essential.
De Officiis is especially important for Stoic peeps but an excellent read for anyone.
Contemplating on reading some of him after current reads.

Has anyone ever read this? Is this worth the read? It seems really odd and confusing from what i've heard of it, but I'm very much intrigued.

I saw it in the bookstore recently and I sat and read the beginning portion and was completely underwhelmed.
I'll still probably buy it and finish it, but it didn't really appeal to me

Let's be honest, at the end of the day, this book is pretty good, even if it's overread.
Gatsby is one of those characters you'd love to meet one day and hang out with

I really dont think it's that great. All it has going for it is the allure of posterity.

Which authors truly have insights on human experience? At least, subjectively, to you.
James Joyce because Ulysses presents a perfectly formed human being from whom all can be grasped
Marcus Aurelius

Sup lit. My novel just got a publishing deal from the big five. I do not read though. The last novel I read was in high school and I only used cliff notes. How is my book so good when I hate reading? Am I just that good?

This is the highest rated book on Goodreads beating Brandon Sanderson' books? Why an average reader thinks young adult and fantasy is the epitome of literature?
I am still not unconvinced that Goodreads isn't a prop for Amazon sales. Almost any book you go to will have a direct link to purchase it through Amazon. Keep in mind too how many people are paid or have bots leave positive reviews for their products- who's to say many popular reviewers on Goodreads are not also paid reviewers and promoters?
> Why an average reader thinks young adult and fantasy is the epitome of literature?
No one thinks this shit is the epitome of literature but for most people it's going to be more entertaining than a fucking ancient tome about a monomaniacal sperg chucking harpoons at whales and 250 pages of pseudoscientific whale morphology and sailing equipment.
>>8238835
It basically is. It's owned by Amazon and they even provide guidelines to authors for how best to use it for marketing. Goodreads legitimately is really popular. I don't think they have to pay people to use it. The goals of authors, popular readership, and Amazon align pretty closely in this case.
>professors writes "calling things a meme is not an argument" on top of paper
Considering how progressive universities are, he'll probably get fired soon.

hey guys, I need your help. I want to write a good mystery story, and I have a general plan written out. The thing is that I want the reader to be able to solve the mystery themselves so I want to leave in clues and stuff in the writing. I want to know how to do this without it seeming blatantly obvious?
>I want to know how to do this without it seeming blatantly obvious?
