Horrible. I remember I wanted to buy Sylvia Plath and the cover had some photo of a pocket mirror reflecting a woman putting on lipstick.
Disgusts me.

Patriarchy is to blame.

He took idealism to its logical conclusion and thereby killed it.

Looks more like he's seen some shit, like he's constantly having flashbacks of fighting in 'Nam

>read original works by philosophers
>read books about specific philosophers
>read books about philosophy in a given period
>read books about a given branch of philosophy

Is any of these better than the others, or should you just do all of them, in general.

Books about a certain branch works better with analytic philosophy.
>>
>>8235760
>should you just do all of them

yes

heres a priority

1
>read original works by philosophers

(be sure to have read the prequisites first (i.e no reading hegel or schopenhauer withou having read kant, no aristotle without plato, etc))

2
>read books about a given branch of philosophy

for introductions

3
>read books about specific philosophers

for specialization

>read and watched Peter Hitchens stuff
>similarly for Zizek but more so

I now think that P hitchens is just a stop liking what I don't like 60sboo and zizek is just a very good comedian but I still like them both .

Now who else is there? I never had a Dawkins or C Hitchens phase and don't really want one

When it was created, the language of poetry was a magical language bound up with popular religious ceremonies in honor of the Moon goddess, or Muse and this remains the language of true poetry, ‘true’ in the nostalgic modern sense of the unimprovable original, not a synthetic substitute. The true poet worships the White Goddess, or goddess of creation; unswerving and absolute devotion to her is the poet's only path.

What books would you consider extremely edgy, and appeal to a crowd that seeks to corrupt morality, and see things from an outsider perspective that appeals to people who strongly distaste to the fabric of our society? I'm not looking for garbage, or simply something that fits this description, I'm looking for something that you'd consider good, or something that even if you didn't consider good, you'd still respect and admire and appreciate that if you did feel that way, then you'd think it was good.

I need a book that will explain the basic of contemporary finance. I need to learn in more depth the meaning of terms such as

>credit swap
>exchange traded derivative
>stock shorting
>futures and options

and the mechanics of markets and financial instruments.

As some one who works in finance, and really didn't know anything at all when I started, I can't recommend this book enough. It literally covers everything:

Thank you, just the person I was looking for.

Are there any other books (including text books) which helped you?

I was seriously considering just doing the CFA course in my spare time as an alternative to reading, but I had a look at the exam and it focused too much on practical stuff like compliance and tiny legal points that don't really matter if you're just looking for an overview.

Does anyone know an interesting non-fiction book on Japanese literature in a historical context or perhaps a book that provides biographies of authors? I have been reading a lot of Japanese authors lately, my favorites being Dazai, Akutagawa, Soseki and Tanizaki.
