So my writing laptop died today. Luckily I have all my files on an external HD.
I will miss my mechanical keyboard laptop, it felt natural typing for hours at a time on it.
Anyone have any recommendations for a new writing laptop for me to get?
>>8620033
What laptop did you have with a mechanical keyboard?
A laptop just for writing (i.e. typing)? Get an old thinkpad like an X60s or an X220
Well, either get another one with mechanical keyboard, probably would need to go with refurbished/used since they are rather rare.
Or if you're willing to adjust a bit, try something like the new Macbook. Hated the keyboard at start but I fucking love it now due the very direct feedback. Besides, it's actually portable, you can take it anywhere with you without even noticing that it's there. Glorious 16:10 high resolution screen is a big plus too. I have no idea how people tolerate 16:9 cancer.

This stack has little coherence but it's a nice acquisition. I hope you like Jean Cocteau. Alphonse de Sade is frankly overrated and should be ignored. I've never seen the word “edgy” as suitable as it is to describe him and the poor, vulgar pornography he produced. There are better authors who also wrote in that vein, like Georges Bataille, Pietro Aretino, Pierre de Laclos, or more recently Claude Bolduc and Josef Winkler, who is even more gruesome. Among my favorite libertine poet is Edmond Haraucourt. You should check him out. Albert Camus is nothing to fuss over. I'd quickly close that existential phase of yours, at least regarding him as a writer. René Descartes is boring and you'll most likely won't understand half of the book as far as I assess your tastes. I hope you got them in a second-hand store for less than $2.50 because it has no market value, though.
You bought a bunch of edgy garbage like a typical fucking redditfrog.
Do I have to read Hegel and Lacan to comprehend The Sublime Object of Ideology?
>read zizek
>don't get it
>read hegel, marx, and lacan
>reread zizek
>finally get the joke
>laugh to death
It's not worth it anon.

Ideally, yes.

The goal of Zizek was that you wouldn't.

The Fugitives - Panoz Karnesiz - average
Woes of the True Policemen - Roberto Bolano - good
The Insufferable Gaucho - Roberto Bolano - average
Rabbit is Rich - John Updike - average
Some books that were so-so, although I really enjoyed WOTTP, which is a spin-off of 2666. Rabbit is Rich was an improvement on Run and Redux, thankfully. The Fugitives was pretty disappointing, since The Birthday Party is a brilliant book.
What have you been reading the last few weeks? Good or bad? Also, how is this board doing? I haven't been here in months.
There was also a German book that I can't remember the name of, but it was weak.

V. - Pynchon - good
No Country for Old Men - McCarthy - good
Will You Please Be Quiet, Please? - Carver - good
Manhattan Transfer - Dos Passos - great
King, Queen, Knave - Nabokov - average
I found most of Updike's writing stale, boring, and his prose serviceable to weak. Rabbit Run had few inspired passages, but the protagonist had a lot of potential i take it was further developed in subsequent novels. i doubt i'll read those any time soon, though.

Then get stoned for a few hours.
Crack open your first bottle. Drink that.
Open your book and read it and drink the second bottle.
Read then.

Niggas be running through the block shootin'
Time to start the revolution, catch a body, head for Houston
Once they caught us off-guard
The MAC-10 was in the grass and
I ran like a cheetah with thoughts of an assassin
Picked the MAC up, told brothers, "Back up!" the MAC spit
Lead was hittin' niggas, one ran – I made him backflip
Heard a few chicks scream, my arm shook, couldn't look
Gave another squeeze, heard it click, "Yo, my shit is stuck"
Try to cock it, it wouldn't shoot, now I'm in danger
Finally pulled it back
And saw three bullets caught up in the chamber
So now I'm jetting to the building lobby, and it was full of children probably, couldn't see as high as I be
(So what you sayin'?) It's like the game ain't the same
Got younger niggas pulling the triggers
Bringing fame to their name
And claim some corners, crews without guns are goners
In broad daylight, stickup kids, they run up on us
45's and gauges, MAC's, in fact
Same niggas will catch you back-to-back
Snatching your cracks in black
There was a snitch on the block getting niggas knocked
So hold your stash 'til the coke price drop
I know this crackhead who said she got to smoke nice rock
And if it's good, she'll bring you customers in measuring pots
But yo, you gotta slide on a vacation, inside information
Keeps large niggas erasin' and their wives basin'
It drops deep as it does in my breath
I never sleep, ‘cause sleep is the cousin of death
Beyond the walls of intelligence, life is defined
I think of crime when I'm in a New York state of mind
I dunno, I think it's pretty good. Reads alright without the music even.
