I went to film camp. I’ve read Sard. I’ve read Thomas Pynchon. I’ve read Ayn Rand. I’ve been to Italy. I’ve been to France. I speak French. I’ve been to Spain. I’ve been to South America. I’ve been to Kenya. I’ve been to China. I backpacked across Europe. I prefer tea to coffee. I’ve been to Greece. I love Greek food. I’m a foodie. I’m always on the lookout for a great little place to get breakfast. I sometimes go to Barnes and Noble and lose track of the time.
The black people that I’ve met said I have a lot of flavor. I love my MacBook but I also love my MacBook Pro, because it has the word Pro on it, short for prolapsed. echos of prolapsed I drive an ancient Volvo that barely starts. The Matrix and..and Inception are the first movies in the last ten years that made me really think. Yeah I paint, no big deal, I think conventional painting rules are…stogy, archaic.
To bend the spoon, you have to realize there is no spoon. Think outside the box. Coexist. Coexist, and one more thing, If you don’t know the difference between your, and you’re and you’re and your, you’re a fucking idiot, get the fuck off my Facebook wall.

Could someone who hasn't read The Odyssey or anything else by Joyce pick this book up and read it like any other?
Will crucial allusions go over my head? Or can I enjoy it as a standalone
>>8728077
You could get the synopsis of The Odyssey on wikipedia and get most of the allusions. Ulysses is far more than just a modern retelling of it though
>>8728090
When you say far more than it, do you mean in terms of allusions?
>>8728077
It's beautifully written, if you speak english and enjoy literature you'll get something from the book.
Any recomendation on where to start with him? Also, why are americans post modernists such good writers? I'm not american myself but lately I've been ready Gass and Gaddis and found them masterful. I'd love to find more like them.
Anybody?
this nigga look like a frog lmao
> Also, why are americans post modernists such good writers?
They really aren't. Nobody reads them for a reason.
ITT your favorite Books and why you hate women.
My favorite book is A Scanner Darkly and I hate women because of their shameless exploitation of the sexual revolution, which they blew out of proportion thanks to their many beta providers and inherently degenerate nature. It has been over 50 years ago, yet you're still using it as an excuse to be controlling whores ALL THE TIME: the insane manipulation of media, the casual sex, the atrocities you're committing against mankind with the rights men GAVE you thanks to your beta "friends" in the Western world.
Everyone knows what you're doing and you've been doing in these 50 years, the only reason this spiral of silence still exists today is because you'd be called a sexist, a virgin, you'd be be ostracized from society.
Can you imagine a male whore being excused because 90 years ago a woman attempted to hurt his whore feelings after making a poor decision? It would be inexcusable, but then again sluts have their friends in the West who love to increase their infinitesimally tiny chances at having sex by tugging at whore's heartstrings.
I'm fucking sick and tired of your slimeball tactics. If you really have the support of people in the western hemisphere then are you still wasting no effort to influence and manipulate public opinione, sluts?
>Can you imagine a male whore being excused
it's called being a chad numbnuts. if you had lurked a bit longer you would know what that is and why this stupid shit belongs in /r9k/

My favorite book is Golden Apples of the Sun and I think women are great. They have more practice socializing, so once you meet the minimum threshold of social consciousness you're allowed to play in faeryland. I hate people like you because you wreck parties and people can see that you hate yourself from a city block away
>>8727981
My favorite so far is Blood Meridian and I don't hate women, but I hate that they are inherently shallow and that I was born ugly and raised by shit parents who stunted my ability to socialize. I've only had sex with girls who I found disgusting on some level. Bottom of the barrel fatties and mentally damaged whores with hpv. I'd kill myself but I'm too much of a pussy. But to blame this all on women is missing the point and unfair to them. Women are such shallow creatures because if they get knocked up, it's 9 months of resources that will be wasted on bad genes if they sleep with some ugly fuck like me. So that is why i suggest you get a good job so that you can afford higher class prostitutes.
/lit/, I'm a science student who wants to better understand the rationale behind the scientific method and general empiricism in science. Is it reasonable for me to study the philosophy of science with no prior philosophical background? If so, could you recommend me some good introductions to the field? Thanks in advance.
Are you interested in the basics like positivism, Popper, maybe a tiny bit of Kuhn, etc., or in the weird shit that makes Kuhn look like Science Is Gay 101?
>>8727968
Ideally, I'd like an introductory text that covers all of the fields philosophy of science dips into, and includes some history/basic arguments.
>r in the weird shit that makes Kuhn look like Science Is Gay 101?
I'd definitely like to hear more about whatever this is.
>>8727957
What science are you studying, what do you hope to achieve with your studies in the field of science?
And no, the philosophy of science (all philosophy really) should be a priori intuitive
>open a book

Has the holocaust just become the easy way for bad writers to shit stories that will sell by the buckets?
>>8727740
it elicits a pretty powerful response. I agree that it's a bit of a cop out like books about immigrants, homosexuals, or cancer victims, topics which it's hard not to have empathy with. But that's not to say these settings shouldn't be touched just because people have sympathy to them, I think there's some writers who choose the setting of the holocaust because they think it's easier to get an emotional response from it but I also think that there are those who are genuine about the theme. I don't think you could say that James Baldwin, a gay black writer, was insincere with Giovanni's room and Notes to a Native Son.
No jew were killed in masse during the "lolocaust
>>8727740
ATLWCS has literally nothing to do with the holocaust.
My sister just got into medicine school and I want to give her a book for Christmas that will frighten the shit out of her becoming a doctor

What are some books that give the best insight into the closest you could come to a correct political ideology???
I'm thinking not necessarily describing a political system but rather, accounts on human nature that provide insight into the reality of our situation?
It seems like obviously no ideology has been perfect or completely correct but slivers of each contain truth that perhaps when welded together provide not an answer but a complete refutation of all error?? help me

Ordinary Men by Christopher Browning
