Am I the only one who laughed a lot while reading this book? Meursault's utter indifference to anything happening around him really made me chuckle, and his attention to small and irrelevant details while the biggest changes in his life were occurring were also quite humorous. What did you all think of this book?

I thought it was great. It really does highlight the absurdity of life, and how if you don't play the game, you're eventually condemned. I loved it.

Read the book retard he literally argues against the "School of Resentment" and the politicization of art. Besides, it already has Austen and Woolf

Is there a /lit/ guide for PKD? I've read DADOES, Scanner Darkly, FMTPS, Ubik, and a few of his short stories but I'm not sure where to go. I've heard The Man in The High Castle is worth reading, so should I try that?

a lot of people here hate it, but High castle is a cool little spin on his common themes and i definitely recommend it.

Like the subject says: what are your favourite books that are both insightful and well-written, in the sense that reading them is not a chore? I'm talking flowing, natural prose.

Fiction and non-fiction are both welcome.

Why not just think for yourself? If that's what you become after years of thinking, then so be it? Why willingly wall yourself in to one mode of thinking and philosophy?

What a disappointment. His manifesto is just a dumbed-down version of Ellul by with a boring writing style. This guy has no original ideas and sounds like he acted like a dick to everyone who tried to help him out (Skrbina, Zerzan). He claims Ellul is too difficult for the average person to understand but I think he's just a pompous dick. He lived almost completely self-sustainably and sacrificed it all just to shill a pamphlet that left no impact. His pretension is about the only thing that differentiates him from a leftist acting violently out of a sense of inferiority. Instead of jerking off to Joseph Conrad he should have read Gravity's Rainbow.

There's no relation. Kaczynski says his revolution is non-political. He cares about the technological apparatuses, not who is in power.

I simply don't think he was as smart as he thought he was. He should have stayed innawoods practicing permaculture.

Also, I'm amused that autists kept complaining that this book didn't exactly represent their experience, so the author had to change his mind and say the main character didn't actually have Aspergers.

Epicurus, what a great philosopher.

Does anyone else fascinated by the idea to live with your friends and in that way be truly happy?

But would that truly work if your mind is against all the good in the world, would it be more logical to free yourself from all the nonsense that is in the world and just be, be in the moment as it is, happy, joyful, eternally?

I only want white friends. And no women
>>
>>8932498
Well, some women are more fun than guys, I like fun. As Epicurus says, there should be no intimate relationship between friends who would live all together.

All races are the same.
>>
>>8932496
>In order to join his group you had to give up all your property and possessions to him
>Drank out of cups with his face on them
>Had daily confession
>Public shaming took place against those who confessed something contrary to what Epicurus likes
Ignoring the fact he was a cult leader, if we only look at his philosophy it can be seen that he is a meme philosopher that all of his contemporaries and all those who followed for centuries knew for a meme. His philosophy has had no impact on anyone asides from those who called themselves Epicurus and he made no contributions to the philosophic dialectic. The only good things he ever taught have to be removed from the totality of his philosophy and then you find that are very similar to the good things from other, much better philosophies.

He only has any popularity today because his ethics is far easier to understand and are already in a great deal of agreement with teenage, nihilist, atheist non-students of philosophy, than other classical ethical systems. Virtue ethics has the problem that you have to make a conceptual leap that can be difficult for many, especially those with no real exposure to philosophy, to do, where deontological systems tend to require a reasonable philosophical background in order to understand the many arguments in favour of it since it seems intuitively suspect.

Why does evil exist? Why does one come up with idea to kill, rape or torture or abuse somebody in any other way? You might say it's some kind of rudimentary behaviour since we're animals after all, but humans commit acts of cruelty worse that no animal can compete in this regard. Is it a lack of empathy?
Isn't it a curse that we have such a complex nervous system, can feel various types physical and emotional pain, yet are also very inventive at doing harm to each other? Humans are doomed to suffering.
Any philosophers who wrote about this?

>'I REALLY WANT TO TALK ABOUT ISLAM, MULTICULTURALISM, AND IMMIGRATION ON THE LITERATURE BOARD!"

Fuck off

>>>/pol/
>>
>>8931993
In short he writes about the absence of any meaningful principles to live by in modern life. Relationships being reduced to a pure transactional economy leading to the question of the possibility of love. Europe going into a death spiral where the opposing forces of a naive and imbecilic Far Right and Islam are the only political forces with a sense of energy and mission undermining the nihilistic and beurocratized liberal left.

He's accused of being a misogynist and an islamophobe because of the themes he deals with and having a very bitter attitude towards them but I've seen no evidence of the sort. He's practically a Marxist who has simply given up hope on life.
