Why is a yank writing U.S. southern literature? Is it cause we're too dumb to write our own?
I'm from texas and I don't know a single writer from my own state other than Kinky Friedman and he sucks

>Why is a yank writing U.S. southern literature?
Cause you're too dumb to detect a fraud and a poser.
>Is it cause we're too dumb to write our own?
Basically yes, see above.
>>8956025
McCarthy is a poser? :'(

His only work that establishes him in the canon is a Western. So I wouldn't fret too much because we have Faulkner.
>find a copy of Aristotle's politics on the ground
>take it home and dry it off to read before bed
>fifty pages of bullshit introduction, first the note by the translator and then the reviser gets a note too
>but that's still not enough.
>half the pages are discussing the preceding page that Aristotle just wrote
>almost impossible to seperate the bullshit from Aristotle's words
>500 pages when it should be 200
Fuck, man, who wants that trash, I just wanted to read some neat points of view before bed, but I have to keep flipping past spoonfeeder McGee. And another thing, page and font sizes should he standardized amongst all books. Sick of these variations all the time. 100 pages should be universal no matter what book, cause I have no way to guesstimate length when everyone does it differently.
>>8955987
Quit bitching and skip the introductions. Is it really that difficult?

Alright lads just watched the first 2 hungry games movies with my gf. Abandoned ship after the ending of the second one pissed me off. Any if you read the books? What happens in the last book. Why do they have districts. Why would anyone watch other people kill each other. Why did the crowd only want to call of the games when catnip said she was preggers?
>>8955915
*of
>>8955915
>Why would anyone watch other people kill each other.
You mean like gladiators?
I haven't read the books though so I can't answer your questions.
>>8955915
The questions aren't really addressed. She's a hack.

If they want to learn African and Asian philosophy, go to school in Africa and Asia. There are thousands of Chinese people that come to school here specifically for a western education. They don't complain about anything and 4.0 every class.
What's wrong with Megan Boyle ?
>>8955638
she's not massively overweight like everyone else in that picture?
Go to bed, Tao
She can't seem to find the time to brush her teeth, for one.
So what happens if I have a sexual fetish for putting ideologies above my self interest? Then isn't in my self interest to be ideologically masochist?
What if I get off too slave morality?
Ever think of that, /lit/?
>>8955561
I'm too woke. I need to spread the love.
>hurrr durrr i'm so smart that my sexuality is only stimulated by my amazing intellect
please kill yourself immediately
>tfw you study philosophy in uni but figure out you were only really interested in the history of philosophy
Is there anything worthwhile in the analytic tradition that doesn't ignore Hegel, Marx, Althusser, Heidegger and basically every notable continental thinker that triggers Anglos?
Hmmm....Richard Rorty?
Also, maybe A.N. Whitehead
>>8955531
Why the fuck do you asume you can only take a pragmatic approach to philosophy while being of the "analytic tradition"?
That's what the *ideology* they tried to impose and apparently you ate all their crap
it's not that dicotomic really, and that continental v/s analytic "debate" is more of a meme than a serious thing in the academia nowadays

It was my mothers favorite book of last year. All of her friends at work read it too. OMG it was so sad!

There is something very mumlike about the title. See also A Thousand Splendid Suns and The Sheltering Sky (which I don't think is very mum-friendly at all).

What does lit think of this saga? I recently started and while I find it a bit confusing I like that it feels like I've jumped into a moving world, not an story that's being told just for me.
People who use "saga" to refer to non-Icelandic texts should be drawn and quartered.

1 Gardens of the Moon: Hmm, weird book. Not great but interesting.
2 Deadhouse Gates: This is fantastic fantasy with strong historical notes, amazing.
3 Memories of Ice: A brutal uncompromising book, enjoyable.
4 House of Chains: The first half is innovative, brilliant as far as modern fantasy goes.
5 Midnight Tides: Kind of a weird departure but ok.
6 The Bonehunters: I guess they had to follow up deadhouse
7 Reaper's Gale: hmm, this isnt very good
8 Toll the Hounds: this sucks
9 Dust of Dreams: (200 pages in) I have better things to read
10 The Crippled God: I guess ill read it one day but he really screwed the pooch

Ive been told that DG MoI HoC MT and TB are great and that people usually read the last books because they are too invested in the story.
I want to head out to a coffee shop or somewhere to read my favourite books. I live in a cold area so reading outside is a no-go at the moment.
Being on 4chan, I am obviously autistic. How long can I sit in a coffee shop after drinking an espresso to read without being given hassle or it being awkward?
>>8955180
Locally I have:
- a local coffee shop that also sells second hand books (terrified they accuse me of stealing my own book)
- Costa inside a book shop, same fear as above
- Starbucks
- Cafe Nero
- Costa
>>8955180
these are the 4 steps i follow daily:
1. make sure to sit as far away from bartender attention as possible
2. order your desired coffee + mineral water
3. smoke lots of cigarettes (slows down the process of drinkng and maked the reading more enjoyable)
4. sip the coffee and water as slowly as possible
>>8955204
Is there much risk of them accusing me of stealing my own book?
My partner got me my favourite book in hardback with real gold-leaf etc.
I am currently trying to write a thesis about the linguistic similarities and differences of a male and a female author. I am currently in trouble in looking for the perfect two authors with their books to compare.
1.This book that is written by them should be in the same genre.
2.They both have to be in the same time period as close as possible.
3.If possible they both have to create the same relevance or impact in the field of literature.
Anybody have an idea?
