how would a P90 chambered in .338 lapua work out?

It would require a lot of re-engineering and would probably be extremely big. More of an LMG than a PDW at that point.
>>
>>30116978
it wouldn't

Was line infantry really the best way to lay down fire on the enemy?

Would more modern 20th-21st century tactics work better with the same weaponry used during the 18-19th century?
37 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
No because you can't fire and maneuver towards a position when you only have one shot, it's not going to go where you aim it and you need to stand still and upright to reload your weapon.
>>
>>30116960
No. Effective repeat firing firearms, aircraft, and long ranged artillery are all required for modern tactics.

would it also be detrimental when attacked by cavalry?

Which is better for HD, shotguns or pistols?

Shotgun

But if you have fantasies about searching your house for the bad guy then a handgun
>>
>>30116867
It is said that a pistol is for getting to your rifle/shotgun. A shotgun/rifle is a lot more consistent in putting down a threat effectively. Which is why handguns are considered SECONDARY weapons
>>

Someone broke into my house once while I was gone and it was actually quite terrifying sweeping the house alone. Couldn't even be bothered to try rounding corners because of the adrenaline and in case of ambushes. Had to let the cops do it while I waited outside.

If you're already in the house you have the advantage of knowing the layout but I'd have felt a lot better about sweeping the whole house if I had a shotgun instead of just a handgun.

Sweden's military
What went wrong
Abolishing conscription?
Budget cuts?
Why did they do all this?

According to this, only 6% are confident in Sweden's ability to defend itself.

Consider the size of Sweden's military to Russia's.

The 6% saying the country could defend itself are delusional. You're talking about a country of nine million against a country of a hundred and forty three million.
>>
>>30116817
>Implying that the budget cuts aren't caused by massive immigration and a welfare state that cannot sustain itself.

The government the voters went full retard.

If we didn't live in a world of nuclear weapons and global alliances. Sweden would be ripe for the conquering by a certain neighboring power.

What do mountain infantry do these days?

They just keep training to fight in the mountains, should the situation ever come up again. Most of the EU armies have mountain units. Having worked with a few and having gone through US Army Mountain Warfare school, I would say the French have one of the better ones. Then the German Gebirgsjaegers.

The US has 2 Mountain Infantry battalions, part of the Vermont/New England National Guards. Every Army Special Forces company has 1 team dedicated to Mountain Warfare as well.

>>
>>30116159
>>30116117
Wait, I need to reword that... The French, from what I've heard from German and Italian Mountain troops, have the better training course for Mountain Warfare. Many countries send their troops to do the French training. As far as the better units, I couldn't really say since I've only worked with the Germans. They were pretty cool though.

Why hasn't the US migrated to an AR-based machine gun platform?

The amount of women who sign up for this will be around 5.

Reminder that women make up half the population and willingly pursue "stereotypical" roles and "stereotypical" degrees on their own using their own free will.
>>
>Okay I see your point, but General, as the Secretary of Defense I'm telling you: you need to get rid of this pull-up requirement for the SEALS until so that we have an equal number of women passing the training
>>
>>30115638
And they also force stereotypically male professions to allow them in with reduced requirements, like at every university or job in the stem fields

So the Chinese are very close to finishing development and beginning deployment of their new Df-41, a solid-fueled ICBM with the range to hit the entire continental United States. This is a huge upgrade over their previous primary missile, which uses liquid fuel and thus takes a half-hour or so to prepare for launch. The Chinese have a small number of hardened silos where those missiles can be kept fueled (with the intensive maintenance required, I assume) and ready to launch, but even then they only have the range to hit the West Coast. The DF-41 can be fired from a road-mobile TEL and threatens all of CONUS. If that's not enough the Chinese recently announced they'll be performing their first SSBN deterrence patrol - though given what we know of Chinese subs I doubt that'll be more than a tailing exercise for a Los Angles class skipper.

Given all this, I'm rather curious as to what the likely SIOP is for nuclear exchanges between China and America, as well as limited exchange scenarios. The psychology of China's leadership is also interesting in this matter; they definitely think differently than the Soviets, but they seem to lose all sense of reason or rationality when Taiwan comes into the picture. And the modern addition of effective anti-missile defenses - in boost-phase, mid-course and terminal - definitely change the metrics a bit as well.

What do you guys think? How would this play out, most likely, given the current and near-future forces of China and America?

Chinese government is scaremongering about US PGS because they want to legitimize their own nuclear expansion.

It is not that the PGS goes anywhere, though kek.
