Uncomfortable to hold

Nearly every DA revolver with an exposed hammer can be shot single action

This is acceptable if it's the only option, but I would recommend a Cimarron or Uberti SAA clone.

I would like something nice that is well made and has an olden look to it. My current pick is a CZ 455. I'm willing to spend up to $800~ for the right gun. pls help /k/

You won't go wrong with the CZ. Probably best value for money .22 that you can buy.
>>
>>32352281
Your current pick is a fine weapon. Get a good scope for it.
>>
>>32352288
I did a fair bit of research and it seems like the best pick so far and for $730 from a gunshop near me brand new i feel like thats a good price. It also has a mauser bolt action which makes my dick hard. What about scopes too? i'm new to all of this and need some experienced shooters to guide me on what to buy and what to avoid.

Know that it's very dirty. You're not going to be putting a hundred rounds through it on your first trip to the range, be prepared to have a gritty cylinder that won't turn without help after about 20 shots.
Also what brand? Pietta or uberti?

It's an Uberti. Reviews seem overwhelmingly positive. I'm excited to try something new, and I think I'll enjoy the processes involved.

How hard would it be to drill out a steel rod for a barrel blank on a drill press? I know one /k/ommando did it on a homemade gun of his.

The homemade rifling machines on YouTube look pretty solid, especially that .380 K-something one. The parts for it can all be done pretty cheap, as long as you've got access to a welder.

So I'm a 19 year old college student from Virginia. I have no job, no money other than what my parents give me, and I want to arm myself. My family is a bunch of rich suburbanites and most of them are really apathetic towards guns, except my sister who is a complete shitlib and says shit like "the second amendment is like one of the old laws irrelevant laws that is completely outdated" and "The gun that is most likely to kill you is your own, so why bother getting a gun". I probably won't be able to get a gun until I have my own house and my own job, but what do I do then if I want to get a rifle and a pistol in Virginia? Also where should I start? What guns should I buy? I want something for home defense, CC, and some range toys.

Pistol: No dice. You have to be 21 to buy one.

Sure I could go for suggestions.

Also what sort of pistols should I get once I turn 21? I mean I'm probably going to be 21 by the time I'm able to buy a rifle...

Also why not buy an AK? Aren't those easier to maintain?

Family Flak Edition

> What's this thread about?
As usual this thread is for the discussion and pics of tracked and wheeled AFVs of all kinds from MBTs to supertanks to self propelled AA guns. Please keep it civil and cite sources for statistics.

From 1942 onwards, the German military consistently became acquainted with the debilitating effects of ever increasing Allied air superiority in campaigns such as in North Africa and Italy, reaching its devastating peak in the aftermath of Operation Overlord. In the face of mounting armoured losses, Heinz Guderian requested a means of mobile low level air defence for his panzer formations. Fixed self-propelled mounts were utilised from the outset, with light AA weapons installed on various tank chassis modified with foldable armour plates. However, their inherent limitations, such as poorly optimised aiming equipment, the need for ammunition feed via clips and the static nature of the crew positions (which could not be turned with the gun) led to an initiative to build a more ergonomic vehicle on a heavier Panzer IV chassis with the more lethal 2 cm Flak 38 gun. In spite of Hitler’s skepticism, by 1944, an improved standard single 3.7 cm Flak 43 Pz IV mount vehicle was adopted, informally dubbed the “Möbelwagen” or “moving van” due to its height. In April 1944, the first batch of 20 Möbelwagens of an eventual 240 were produced for service in the west. The distinctive folding armour panels of the vehicle were originally produced with fitted dual 10 mm steel plates, but later changed to a single 20 mm plate. The main gun carried 416 rounds, and was serviced by anywhere from four to seven crew. However, the Möbelwagen was a design in its infancy, and it would soon be superseded by far more capable Panzer IV derived vehicles.

OP: As always, feedback, suggestions wanted and appreciated.
I thought I’d detour to an older SPAAG or conceptual equivalent this week, because of the fact that I’m still compiling things for the York thread, and also due to the precedent that the German trifecta of AA vehicles in the Möbelwagen, Wirbelwind and Ostwind set. The German military in WWII had come to rely upon its highly capable Luftwaffe in order to establish air dominance and support the ground troops in concert in a variety of operations and theatres. From Dunkirk to Smolensk, the Luftwaffe were typically able to outperform (in the case of the Ostfront) or locally outnumber (as the RAF found supporting Operation Dynamo) their opponents and form an umbrella over Germany’s armoured forces. However, starting with North Africa, and continuing through Italy and then the D-Day landings and then with the resurgent Soviet air force, Germany’s opponents mustered overwhelming air assets as Luftwaffe sustainment and logistics became even more pressed. Thus, the logical response was to develop suitable AA weapons with which to counter Allied numerical superiority in areas of operation for panzers. In this respect, the development of the Möbelwagen and its successors tell the story of a nation on the defensive.

More tank news, as per the new format.
If you have more queries regarding a news story, just point it out, and I’ll further elaborate and provide links.

Lots of news from the last two weeks: (1/2)
According to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, Kuwait is looking to upgrade and extend the lifespan of its 218 M1A2 Abrams MBTs, with new radios, armour packages, 120 mm gun tubes, FLIR, CSAMM and optical hardware being requested from the US as part of Foreign Military Sales. Estimated to be worth some $1.7 billion USD, a gamut of contractors are involved, including GDLS, Kongsberg, Raytheon and Meggit, among others.

According to the programme executive officer for Army combat vehicles, the US Army is expected to make key decisions regarding Active Protection Systems (APS) and their integration next summer. Starting in January, the Army will characterise APS selections for the Bradley IFV and Stryker, following on from the already progressing Abrams APS integration.

BAE Systems has delivered its first Amphibious Combat Vehicle (ACV) 1.1 to the US Marine Corps, ahead of its main competitor for the bid, SAIC. In addition, the US Army has received its first AMPV prototype in the general purpose configuration.

The US State Department notified Congress last week of a possible FMS to Peru for 178 reconditioned Strykers. Estimated to cost $688 million USD, older, non-Double V-Hull configured vehicles are being offered to various states, with Peru looking to acquire them in the interest of internal security.

UK Defence Secretary Michael Fallon announced to British Parliament this week of the advent of the Strike Brigade, made up of Ajax AFVs at the cost of one Challenger 2 MBT regiment. Under the “Army 2020 Refine” process, four infantry battalions are expected to become specialised advisory units for the experimental Strike Brigade.

Poland has ordered 96 Krab howitzers from the local defense firm HSW, worth some $1.1 billion USD or 4.6 billion Zloty. The artillery will be based on Hanwha Techwin’s K9 155 mm SPG chassis under license, to be manufactured locally.

Indicative of growing traction for Chinese military exports, Algeria has begun to field new support vehicles based on the WZ502G IFV chassis design by NORINCO. Algerian variants include the ZCY45 and ZCL45 command vehicles for battalions and batteries respectively.

Jordan has received the first 16 of 50 Marder 1A3 IFVs donated by Germany as part of its “Reinforcement Initiative” for military aid to allied nations in conflict zones. In addition, 88 million Euros are expected to be donated to Jordan for armaments upkeep.

Rheinmetall AG has won a contract to modernise 90 of the Bundeswehr’s Fuchs transport vehicles. Delivery is expected to begin in 2017 and end in 2020, bringing the total number of 1A8 pattern Fuchs vehicles in service to 267.

The Czech Ministry of Defence is planning on the acquisition of 20 Pandur and Nexter Titus armoured vehicles as part of the state’s initiative to raise its defence spending to 1.4% of GDP from 1.08%. In addition, the Ministry is planning an overhaul of the procurement process in order to speed defense modernisation.

Russia may be looking at retrofitting the T-14 Armata’s advanced automatic target tracker and FCS onto its T-72 and T-90 fleets, as the Armata enters production at Nizhny Tagil. Such a decision would further support the notion that Russia intends to employ a mixed MBT fleet well into the future instead of replacing its older T-72s with the T-14 on a one to one basis.
ISIS propaganda has been busy this week, with images released of both one Turkish Sabra and two Turkish Leopard 2A4 MBTs being destroyed by ATGMs, although it is difficult to gain confirmation of the operational state of said tanks in the present.

And that’s all for now.

So I just had an idea for a fun target. Steps are as follows:

Materials: instant concrete, and solo cups or other plastic cups

Steps:
> first make the concrete
> then pour it into solo cups
> wait for it to dry
> once the concrete dries, peel off the solo cup

Great for long range shooting or just plinking because you get a nice dust when you hit it. Also it vanishes so no cleanup!
