Why are certain activities considered controversial by society?
Societies seem to vacillate on acceptance of various drugs and intoxicants. For instance coffee was prohibited in 16th century Mecca, but promulgated as fuel for the modern corporate machine.
Male homosexuality follows a similar path, sometimes being culturally acceptable, and sometimes absolute prohibition. Female homosexuality doesn't elicit nearly the same response, for whatever reason.
Weapons ownership by the general population. Again, either extreme prohibition, e.g., modern Japan, or glorified like in the modern US.
I'm less interested in why these particular activities are controversial, and more generally interested in why certain activities repeatedly elicit extreme reactions.

Because female control society.

Are you implying that women drive male homophobia?

To a significant degree.
Is the industrial revolution unique to western europe?
If the industrial revolution didnt happen in europe where else in the world would it occur in?

It didn't happen in Europe, it happened in Britain. Brits are neither European nor white.

I'm pretty sure existing law and precedent is not ambiguous enough to define your entire state as your residence

What is the greatest lie every created? What is the most vicious obscenity ever perpetrated on mankind? Slavery? The Holocaust? Dictatorship? No. It's the tool with which all that wickedness is built: altruism. Whenever anyone wants others to do their work, they call upon their altruism. Never mind your own needs, they say, think of the needs of... of whoever. The state. The poor. Of the army, of the king, of God! The list goes on and on. How many catastrophes were launched with the words "think of yourself"? It's the "king and country" crowd who light the torch of destruction. It is this great inversion, this ancient lie, which has chained humanity to an endless cycle of guilt and failure. My journey to Rapture was my second exodus. In 1919, I fled a country that had traded in despotism for insanity. The Marxist revolution simply traded one lie for another. Instead of one man, the tsar, owning the work of all the people, *all* the people owned the work of all of the people. So, I came to America: where a man could own his own work, where a man could benefit from the brilliance of his own mind, the strength of his own muscles, the *might* of his own will. I had thought I had left the parasites of Moscow behind me. I had thought I had left the Marxist altruists to their collective farms and their five-year plans. But as the German fools threw themselves on Hitler's sword "for the good of the Reich", the Americans drank deeper and deeper of the Bolshevik poison, spoon-fed to them by Roosevelt and his New Dealists. And so, I asked myself: in what country was there a place for men like me - men who refused to say "yes" to the parasites and the doubters, men who believed that work was sacred and property rights inviolate. And then one day, the happy answer came to me, my friends: there was *no* country for people like me! And *that* was the moment I decided... to build one.
Rapture was a shit hole because Ryan was an immature manbaby unable to resist being played by Fontaine.

Hello my fellow /his/torians
Do any of you admire historical figures that aren't quite as mainstream as, say, Alexander or DaVinci - But similarly great?
Who are they, who do you admire?
When I was young I used to want to be like Napoleon or Alexander, a great conqueror. As I grew older, my idols changed into people like Augustus, great leaders, but for economic, administrative, and cultural reasons, rather than militarism. That's not to say I'm a pacifist, but I stopped wanting to directly lead troops.
As of the past few years I've been getting into much more esoteric people, as re-reading about the great's gets pretty boring. I'm really interested in Huey Long and Lee Kuan Yew right now, both (semi) modern politicians who never seemed to waver in their determination to help average people. I doubt I'll ever get into politics, but if I do, they would be my role models.
I love James Madison, the most underrated founding father. Everyone overlooks him because he is a skelly manlet, but he is the architect of our government in its modern form.
Everyone gives all the love to George Washington because he's a tall Chad
Also love William F Buckley Jr
This is your mind on """"Jewish""" "dialogue".
The Rema (R’ Moshe Isserles, d.1572), in his work, Toras HaOlah (1:11), recounts a story of Aristotle which reflects the belief, mentioned previously, that Greek wisdom originally came from contact with the Jews, and which also puts Aristotle in a very negative light:
It is written in Shvilei Emunah that the entire essence of the wisdom of Aristotle was stolen from the wisdom of [King] Solomon. For when Alexander the Macedonian conquered Jerusalem, he appointed his teacher, Aristotle, over the library of the books of Solomon, and every good thing that [Aristotle] found there, he wrote his name on, and he blended in some bad opinions, such as the [belief in] the pre-existence of the world and the denial of [Divine] providence, to cover himself so that the people who came after him would not know that he stole the wisdom from a Jew. And, possibly, anything in the words of Solomon which he did not find a clear proof for he did not believe."

>Greek wisdom originally came from contact with the Jews
It unironically was. There is a reason you find no Greek Philosophy pre-Hellenistic age. Greeks thought Pedophilia, Homosexuality, and all that was okay until the Jews taught them it was wrong.

If Rome had fallen to foreign invasion, perhaps Islamic or barbarian, and the Vatican with it, how would Catholicism have evolved?
Would there have been a singular Pope that people would pledge allegiance to or could you have regional Popes? Could such regional Popes be justified under Catholic doctrine?
Anybody read this? What does /his/ think? First time poster sorry if I'm stepping on an old meme

Didn't the Afghan government actually request soviet support? IIRC the soviets were actually hesitant to get involved because they had enough on their plate at the time
