Hello my fellow /his/torians
Do any of you admire historical figures that aren't quite as mainstream as, say, Alexander or DaVinci - But similarly great?
Who are they, who do you admire?
When I was young I used to want to be like Napoleon or Alexander, a great conqueror. As I grew older, my idols changed into people like Augustus, great leaders, but for economic, administrative, and cultural reasons, rather than militarism. That's not to say I'm a pacifist, but I stopped wanting to directly lead troops.
As of the past few years I've been getting into much more esoteric people, as re-reading about the great's gets pretty boring. I'm really interested in Huey Long and Lee Kuan Yew right now, both (semi) modern politicians who never seemed to waver in their determination to help average people. I doubt I'll ever get into politics, but if I do, they would be my role models.
I love James Madison, the most underrated founding father. Everyone overlooks him because he is a skelly manlet, but he is the architect of our government in its modern form.
Everyone gives all the love to George Washington because he's a tall Chad
Also love William F Buckley Jr
