What did Hitler think of the former Kaiser? Being a WWI veteran I'm sure he had plenty to say. Likewise, how did Wilhelm view Hitler?
>>362597
They didn't like each other and never actually met. Hitler blamed him for Germany loosing the war and making it weak.
>>362597
They didn't really like each other for the most part.
Hitler never really gave him much attention (probably to avoid antagonising the monarchist elements in the army maybe?) but he did lay some of the blame for the failures of WW1 on him. He also made it clear that he wasn't looking to have Wilhelm reinstated to compete for power with him.
Willie on the other hand made it clear he didn't like Hitler at all, largely looking at him as a classless douchebag like most of the aristocracy did. The most he really did was congratulate him for kicking France's ass and even then he did it in a passive-aggressive, you-won-using-MY-troops way.
Willie kinda flipfloped on his dis/approval of Hitler's anti-jew policies too. He sometimes made comments along the lines of "Serves them right" but supposedly was absolutely ashamed when the Night of Broken Glass happened.
Hitler occupied the Netherlands in 1940 and posted the Wehrmacht Presidential guard (former Imperial Guard) to the house Wilhelm II was living in exile in. Hitler didn't need to the Presidential Guard as he took on the SS-Leibstandarte as he personal guard unit. Of course Wilhelm died less than a year later.
I don't know whether to think that it was a snub sending the guard of the Weimar Republic to guard Wilhelm, or whether it was a mark of respect. It might just be that Hitler wanted people to keep him under lock and key so that Hitler's power could not be threatened.
what can you tell me about the olmec culture?

Just finished watching Kagemusha. I'm wondering about how much of it was fact as opposed to fiction.
Was Nobunaga really that much of a westaboo?
Why do the Japanese hate Nobunaga so much? Every depiction of him in Japanese media shows him as a despot asshole.
>>362305
yeah he it was well known that he was a patron of western arts and culture. He was also quite lenient with Christian Jesuits, although that was more to balance the power of the Buddhist monks (whom he detested) than because of any appreciation of the faith itself.
Plus he loved firearms
He was a lot more internationally minded than his successors
>>362315
probably because he was a brutal fucker
>>362327
Yeah, but that's what it takes to unify a country. Besides, those monks were being cunts.
From a philosophical standpoint:
How much of a brain can you replace with a computer interface that performs the same functions before the resulting system ceases to be alive and/or conscious?
>>362170
A brain is just a biological computer. Replace a neuron with a synthetic neuron, there is no difference. Keep doing this until all neurons are replaced.
>>362170
If the computer does the exact same thing as the brain, there is no reason to believe conscioisness ever ceases. The problem is that we don't really understand the brain all that well, let alone what its exact relation to consciousness is.

What was alcohol like in medieval and ancient times?
Was beer anything like it is today? Wine? Liquor?
>>361804
I know that it was a lot weaker most the time.
>>361804
Beer didn't have hops until the 14th or 15th century.
They used a lot of herbs and spices before that and modern day recreations taste awesome.
During the day light ales and wine diluted with water was drunk, for parties they had good wines and special beers and seasonal beers.
Ale only kept for a few days and had to be continuously produced by Alewives, hopped beer lasted longer and could be exported in barrels.
Later in the medieval period they also had distilled spirits such as brandy.
The ancients considered people who drank undiluted wine barbarians (Celts, Thracians etc etc.)
One last thing, it's often said people drank ale or wine because water was of so-so quality but that isn't really true. It's more of a way to make things interesting just like we drink coffee and tea or soft drinks.
>>361847
Yeah, I've heard that ancients drank alcohol because of the bad quality of water.
kind of want to try a recreation of the older beers now, without the hops.
I don't mean Chinese history as in the history of China, but history in China.
They take history so seriously in China, however you know almost every single fact from modern day Chinese historians is in some way affected by complete fabrications and presumptions. Everything they learn has to align politically with their political agenda. Even compared to Japan and Korea, at least academians have some basic sense of an independent, objective view of historical facts, on the other hand Chinese academics sponsored by the Chinese government completely come up with 100% politically biased information, which they use to brainwash 1.3 billion people to push forward the agendas of the CCP and aligning the entire region toward them.
For example, they consider the histories of non-ethnic Chinese minorities as Chinese even when Chinese history is supposed to be purely based on the Han Chinese people. They just use it to lump Tibetans, Uyghurs, Mongolians and Vietnamese as part of the Chinese.
Use your discretion and never trust Chinese historians or use Chinese sources
History is shitty all across Asia, where ethnic nationalism rules emotion.
>>361662
OP, why exactly are you surprised that an authoritarian ideologically based government would tell lies to its people in order to make itself or its people look better? Especially when it has a very firm grip on communications?
>>361662
>on the other hand Chinese academics sponsored by the Chinese government completely come up with 100% politically biased information, which they use to brainwash 1.3 billion people to push forward the agendas of the CCP and aligning the entire region toward them.
Considering the fate that Chinese history suffered through 40-30 years ago, that's a fucking improvement lad.

For those who don't believe in Sola Scriptura, what else is important?
Not being stupid enough to buy into that idea.
Sacred Tradition, Ecumenical Councils. For Roman Catholics, Scripture and Tradition are equally important. For Orthodox Christians, Scripture is a part of Sacred Tradition, and Ecumenical Councils are not about adding doctrine, just about spelling out doctrine that was always there (to support this, they show that the Coptic Church, apart from the nature thing, has identical beliefs even thought they haven't been involved in most of the Ecumenical Councils).

One of the best US presidents X horribly overrated quy responsible for Civil war?
The civil war was inevitable by the 1850s.
>>362255
This.
Pierce and Buchanan did nothing to change the tide. Lincoln inherited the mess and I doubt could have performed more admirably.
I always wonder what reconstruction would have been like with him.
>>362255
It was Polk who essentially made it inevitable with his territorial acquisition.
He also alienated northern democrats by compromising his "54' 40' or fight" promise on the boundary of Oregon territory which exacerbated sectarian differences, shifting US politics to be less about 'democrats vs whigs' and more about 'northern interests vs. southern interests'.
