Was Pearl Harbor a surprise attack or did FDR keep the people in the dark and frame it as a surprise attack for justification in entering the war?

Of course it was a surprise attack. There is literally no reason to think otherwise.

The Japanese planned it as a surprise attack, they coordinated it as a surprise attack, and launched it as a surprise attack.

It was a surprise attack.

Let's answer this from a catholic perspective.

Did God create intelligent aliens in his image? Do those aliens have a space Jesus? Is Space Jesus the same as ours or will he return at a different time?

If they thought deeply about the what-ifs then they probably aren't still Catholic. Just saying.
>>
Maybe. Yes if the aliens have original sin. The Church is universal so Jesus returns at the same time for everyone

How seriously did people regard legends like the Kraken? Were they just tall tales that any educated (or experienced) person dismissed immediately or is this something that ship captains were truly concerned about? The guy who made this picture Pierre Denys de Montfort certainly seemed to think it was real, but then he might have just been trying to sell books or make a name for himself and from his Wikipedia article it seems that he was regarded as something of a crackpot. For the sake of reference, let's stick between 1300-1900.

Well, like most historical myths, it was probably an exaggerated depiction of actual events of threats. There may have not been ship-sized octopi which would suck a whole crew into the sea, but there are still many large sea-faring creatures which could cause hazard to sailors. For regular boaters, anything from some octopus or shark could put you in a life-threatening situation. Out on the open ocean, you also had large whales, sharks, and countless other animals beneath the water that you couldn't see, yet who have the potential to become violent and attack your ship or any isolated individuals.
>>
>>355751
The Kraken is more-or-less just an amalgamated spirit - it's a mish-mash of whales, cephalopods and volcanic activity.
>>
>>355751
Probably like people think of aliens. Some believe it some dont.

Shouldnt this be post in /pol/?

Usually wouldn't do this, but I'm dying to see another perspective:

https://broadly.vice.com/en_us/article/einstein-was-a-genius-at-mistreating-his-wives

>Einstein, trying to save his marriage to a wife whom he severely disliked for the sake of his kids, offered terms that basically suggested his wife become his caretaker and have no intimate relations with him whatsoever
>Einstein, after discovering his son had severe enough schizophrenia to be institutionalized during the early 20th century, never saw him again
>Einstein was unfaithful to both of his wives.

So does that mean he was a misogynist? Maybe I'm just looking too far into this, but no one would make the equivocation if some female scholar made a request of her husband to tend to her so that she could focus solely on her academics (if she already disliked him), and she also cheated, that she was a man-hater in general. So, this seems like such a double standard.

On top of that, they knew relatively nothing about severe mental illnesses in that day and the stigmatization was incredibly hysteric, is it far to say he was probably rather shocked by this discovery and felt that his son had a fatal ailment?

I got into some shit-flinging argument with this LGBTQA studies kid about this and there was pretty much no answer. I just feel like it's really faulty to take the standards of today and judge an individual by them, when at the time no such standards existed. Granted, yes, it's harsh, but if you were trying to learn something wouldn't you look at the laws and varying social factors that lead to general mentalities, it's not like Einstein was some kind of provocateur for spousal abuse, and a lot of geniuses have marital issues.

Geniuses always make shit husbands.

>"I had always thought of woman," says Mr. Tesla, "as possessing those delicate qualities of mind and soul that made her in these respects far superior to man. I had put her on a lofty pedestal, figuratively speaking, and ranked her in certain important attributes considerably higher than man. I worshiped at the feet of the creature I had raised to this height, and, like every true worshiper, I felt myself unworthy of the object of my worship.

>"But all this was in the past. Now the soft-voiced gentle woman of my reverent worship has all but vanished. In her place has come the woman who thinks that her chief success in life lies in making herself as much as possible like man--in dress, voice and actions, in sports and achievements of every kind."

Why are you making this up.

If you took the time to read some of the people that came after them, a lot of what they did was try to reconcile his beliefs with their own about the universe. Aquinas is a good place to start, as he tried to reconcile Aristotelian cosmology with Christian traditions.

Sup, /his/. I see a lot of posting about nationalism here on /his/, mostly "why do nationalist x" "fucking nationalist y" and so on. Well, i'm an 21th century nationalist (though i won't usually say it out loud without having the time to explain what nationalism means to me) and those comments have always puzzled me.

So i want you to tell what nationalism is (for you) or perhaps even ask questions. Genuinely interested.
