serious question, who owns the moon?

In a diplomatic sense, what advantages does the fact that america was there first do?

>who owns the moon
By international treaty nobody.

Do bother to fucking google before you post. Read the fucking sticky.
>>
States aren't allowed to own the moon. People claim they own the moon but those claims aren't recognized by anyone (but themselves).
>>
>>357634

The owner of any piece of land is whoever has the means and motivation to hold it. Right now, the answer is "nobody" because nobody has the means to maintain a presence on the moon nor does anybody have the motivation to try.

Syndicalism.

Apart from the IIeme Internationale betrayals of Syndicalism in Hungary, Italy and France, and the betrayal of the "anarcho-syndicalist" elite of the CNT in Spain?

About as sordid a fucking history as bolshevism, except for murdering comrades for political reasons to support a teetering capitalist state.

Oh wait, the POUM.

I've been listening to dan carlin's hardcore history podcast for a few weeks. started from the beginning and now i'm almost one with Part 4 of his Ghosts of the Ostfront series about the WW2 eastern front and think it has been amazing. Even the stuff about the Punic Wars which I didn't think I would give a shit about were awesome.

The only thing I don't listen to and literally skip past are his interviews with other historians. Don't care at all for those

What do you guys think of this podcast? Is it just pleb shit or it it widely acclaimed? And what are some other great history podcasts

He's a really good storyteller. And he enjoys history but he's not a historian and shouldn't be treated as such.
He's a gateway into actual history, but at the end of the day it's entertainment.

Why is philosophy sometimes regarded as "the search for wisdom"? I am personally fond of the many ideas of philosophy and I enjoy engaging in philosophical discussion but I do not want to be "wise", I do find value in being sophisticated and intelligent but that is not the same thing as "wisdom" to my knowledge even though they may be in the same vein. I am torn between embracing my natural interest and inclination on learning about philosophy and being someone who likes to go with their gut feelings and the flow of life without the care of making the "best" choices. I have this fear of being old and white with a beard and passing on the errors and experiences of my life rather than simply living a life short and sweet, "embracing the chaos" if that makes any sense. All thoughts are appreciated. Apologies for the long post.

That is an animal with many faces. Primarily you should understand that it is not an angry phrase, or an anti-religious standpoint, although the man himself could be considered an ideological enemy of the church. The statement is lamenting the loss of potentially worthwhile values men of the church are supposed to take to heart when a process of normalization and disinterest caused by regularity occurs over time. God is dead because he is mundane, his value is gone, and sadly it cannot be taken back by anyone who cannot questions things enough─not necessarily to question and realize the faults of religion, but to question and come to any greater understanding and awareness of a position.

The phrase is not happy, it is sad.

Also consider his thinking that men should be their own gods and it takes new form, but this is a decent summary.

Hey /his/, I have a bit of a conundrum. When talking about race, I often find myself on the defensive because of the assertion that racism is an amalgam of bigotry and institutional power. First of all, where did this belief come from, and how do I dismantle the argument without mentioning a long list of inconsistencies that will simply tire out the debate? Thank you for your help.

>>
>>357302
Except that is what race is. There is no scientific basis for what "race" is, as it is just grouping a variety of different ethnicities together by subjective and ultimately unscientific characteristics (such as shade of skin).

A good example of how this is shown is by comparing modern Jews genetically. Jews from Arabia and Jews from Europe have similar genetic ancestry even if they look different. Even the elite of Beta Israel in Ethiopia share strong genetic connections, despite the fact that they are black while Ashkenazi Jews are white.

If you want to be scientific and accurate, you can talk about ethnicity, but "race" has no objectivity.
>>
>and institutional power

That's some horseshit neo-Marxists identitarians added to the definition.

Racism is just hatred or preferential treatment of other races, that's it.
>>
>>357503

This, the second sentence anyway. Institutional power is just racism that's being backed by the state.

catholics have nothing to do with whitnes, just WASP bullshit.

But back in the 1600s I know in the British colonies Catholics were only allowed in Maryland and it became like a safe haven for them, but they had like no rights until the American Revolution then they could start running for shit and voting, but no one really liked them and didnt vote for them is all.

How much of a blow to the Islamic world were the crusades? Did it contribute to the fall of the Islamic world?

I've read they were basically a minor threat that was dwarfed by the Mongols as well as being just as bad or worse. Is this western revisionism or was it really a big deal to them?
13 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
>>357110
It was considered a minor threat as you said. In fact up until recent history the crusades were described by muslim scholars as being minor invasions that were only somewhat successful because the muslims were engaged elsewhere and as soon as they were no longer engaged this tiny invasion force was swept asunder.
>>
>>357110

Very minor event over there. In fact the major Islamic players in those conflicts are practically unknown in the native history. They're only known in Europe.

The first crusade was the only one that had any impact on the region, and all it did was inconvenience the Turkish military, beat a little coalition of Muslim lords whose troops didn't want to fight anyway, and make a few insignificant cities in the Levant change hands for a while.
>>
>>357110
>How much of a blow to the Islamic world were the crusades? Did it contribute to the fall of the Islamic world?

Not that big. Mongols pretty much did that all by themselves.

However i would say that the Kingdom of Jerusalem is very fascinating. I honestly think it could had been something great if given time and if Saladin hadnt happened.

Sup /his/, my Uni Professor has gave us our final answer questions and they're pretty shitty. "In what ways did India as a whole “prosper” under the British colonial system?"
From what I know, British economic assistance to India as well as building railroads and the like helped India as well as pushing for many to get western education. But isn't this just about all the Brits did for India? Wasn't the economic exploitation of Indians, mass killings of people during religious practices, and famine that the Britbongs caused in India far worse? How am I supposed to write 2 pages about the benefits of British rule in India when there was hardly anything beneficial about their occupation of India?

>>
there was the railroad
they united india which objectively speaking isn't good or bad but it stayed united so presumably that's something they're happy about.
introducing india to parliamentary republic type government, which they have also maintained.
they did introduce western style education, although some indians today are still unhappy about it because they were usually christian schools.

Kek, I just had to write 2500 word-essays on how modern definitions of the empire fit within the historical context of the Delian League and to debate whether the theory of evolution is proven or not. On top of that I've another 1500 word one on Boxer China and the causes leading to the fall of the Qing dynasty.
