What religion has undergone the most reform?
I know at least personally people have different religious beliefs than what is in scripture but what about on a global scale? Are there any cases of a religion going through a reform in the last couple of decades? Century?

The rise of Caodai is interesting, christianity is contantly mutating and mormons are currently slowly shifting into a religion of their own.

>What religion has undergone the most reform?

Hinduism and all those syncretic eastern belief systems which dont have that ingrained dogma you get in Abrahamic faiths

Why don't Russians give the Romanovs credit for tripling the size of their empire?
7 posts and 1 images submitted.

Maybe because the slavs are geographically detached from the siberian people and therefore never thought of them much besides the "yea and weve got snowchinks too somewhere in the east" manner.
>>

because it all belongs to mother russia. from the atlantic to the pacific, from sea to shining sea, the light of manifest destiny and christianity will never perish.

>americans and russians both believe in manifest destiny, god and guns as the reason they were able to conquer a continent.
>the russians lost their southewest, i.e. central asia, because their version of the USA collapsed.
>americans would be just as butthurt if new mexico, arizona, texas and utah were independent countries with russian bases to "combat terrorism"

/His/, how could the Disputation of Barcelona possibly have happened? It sounds like a fucking disney movie, not real life.

Actually there's a lot of shit like that happening back then.
When the Catholic church discovered the existence of the tripe written in the Talmud, books were confiscated and shit like that were ordered by the Pope, I forgot which one.
But it was one of the most successful conversion efforts to the Jews.
>>
>>1066729

Are you sure you're not confusing it with something else?

The Disputation of Barcelona was a debate over whether or not Jesus was the Messiah, and the Jews won that one, despite the fact that the debate was refereed by a devout Christian monarch.

Subsequent debates would often give the Jewish participants a script to read from, and yeah, they appealed to the Pope to overturn the result, but just the idea that it could happen in the first place is so bizarre that it's almost inconceivable.

So I have this co worker who's heavily into Northern and Western European history. He made a claim that, according to research, the Picts were actually a Germanic culture and related or even interchangeable with Saxons.
However, he has a dubious background as a neo-nazi and he couldn't (or wouldn't) name his sources so I became suspicious. On the other hand, I am still curious, because it could very well be that I had missed out on some groundbreaking new discovery since I don't really keep up with the latest history newsletter.

Can anybody on this board here deliver sources or confirm this claim? Or was he just full of shit because of Völkische Propaganda?

Isn't nihilism the most simple yet obvious and "true" philosophy?

>meaning is just our way to reason ourselves into remaining alive
>the universe has no sense of "why" or "meaning", it's just one big complicated system
>no one can escape death
>hence nothing has "meaning" or "counts" because those are mere ideas that the universe couldn't give less of a shit

inb4 "but we are part of the universe"
our sentient experience of the world is very limited in lenght while the greater universe doesn't stop existing
as long as the electrical reactions in our brain have a chance to stop someday, this excuse can't be used

i'm not saying I know it all, nihilism is one of the first philosophies everyone reaches
i'm asking, what is the point of looking farther or thinking more?

>i'm asking, what is the point of looking farther or thinking more?
Because nihilism is harmful to society and individuals alike
t. Nietsche
>>
Because saying "there is no objective meaning to existence/universe" has limited usefulness.

You as an embodied creature act AS IF life has purpose and meaning, so it's better to start from there.
>>
>>1066363
Is a perspective thing really. I used to struggle with nihilism, always trying to go further in the reach of meaning. If you go to the begining there is no meaning in that, you go to the end and thers no meaning in that. But in the middle there is a lot of things happening. Maybe love can't save you, maybe trying to save the world is ussles or trying to build a legacy is futile, but thats becouse you are looking at the very end of things. Of course in the end nothing matters. But is the way anon, the way is the objective. You may do good or bad, that dosen't matters, what matters is that you try. Acepting the whole way is the first step to overcome nihilsm, stop looking at the very end, it always looks the same.

Franco-Prussian war, WW1 (at least partially), WW2, the entire clusterfuck in the Balkans.
>>
>>1066323
Yes, of course. Wars of national liberation are a perfect example.
However, most wars and skirmishes that are associated with nationalism are actually due to imperialism and colonialism, two phenomena that long predate modern nationalism and on some level are even at odds with it.
>>
>>1066339
Not too sure about the Balkans. Most of it was just countries deciding to leave the federal republic and Yugoslavia not accepting the secession. Srpska wanted to secede as well. To be clear, I don't think separatism is the same as nationalism.

I'm pretty good at history, especially military history, history is my favourite, so I'm putting most of my educational effort on history.

Why the fuck do you think you should teach people?
>>
>>1065824
My professor says it depends on how you want to teach, but either way you'll have to be prepared to move.

Specialize in a specific area of history, find the teaching authority in that area, study/make friends with him, produce some original research that taps an area of modern interest to the world/scholarship/public in pursuit of your PhD, get hired by a college who wants to snatch up a hot commodity
>>

>>

Probably. how you say something has always been more important than what you say.
>>
Sounds to me like you think sophism is a bad thing.
Ides become popular because they are presented through ascribing them to methodologies of truth.
This is this way and this way cause current methodolgy(scientific method these days) is what is truth.
The universe expanded 13 billion years ago cause our current method of truth finding says so..
Sophists, even back then, knew there was no truth. What is is one's ability to present a reality by latching onto the day's authoritative people, methodologies, techniques..
