He was a heretical Nestorian preacher probably, who used his charisma and martial prowess to carve out a huge empire. Pretty impressive tee bee aych, but in the West we don't really see any religious significance to him as far as our own faiths are concerned. Still, a pretty badass guy who knew how to get things done and win people's hearts and minds over.

So, it's super likely that on August I'll start teaching history classes at my old middle school. I'm a history major and I'm going to need the money while I study my Master's degree. Now, I still have my memories of how much of a piece of shit I was when I was 14 so I know what to expect from these animals, but I would like some recommendations.
For example, how much should I be letting those kids reads per week? Should I try to make them participate all the time, or maybe have a very straight forward lecture?
What I think I'm going to do, is let the kids read a chapter of their textbooks or a fragment of a book for homework, and then make them participate by asking "what did you get from what you read?" For that, I will tell them to use a highlighter and write whatever question they have and ask it, so that I can answer it.
Does that sound like a good idea? I remember my first days of University, that was the way I learned the most, so it's probably a good move. Of course, I'll spice it up with group presentations and such, but my main concern will be to make them read as much as possible and that they start thinking. Also, them acting like savages but I do have a very strong attitude, so hopefully that works out in the end.

Cruising around Google Earth, as I do, I came across these rock structures in NW Saudi Arabia. I thought they were the normal animal corrals or something at first, but I'm pretty sure that's not right. I can't find any real good info on them. People seem to think they're Neolithic in age. Some say they're tombs. Some say they're directional markers. I don't like those theories for a variety of reasons.
Anyone know more info about these things?

Does anyone here know a thing or two about pre 1800 Indian and Chinese shipbuilding?
I am rather interested in how Dhows and Junks were built and how junk rigs sail. I know a thing or two about Baltic, Atlantic and Mediterranean shipbuilding but Indian and Chinese Ocean is a bit of a blank spot. Were junks built without a keel? Were they all designed with inverse lapstrake? How pronounced is the tumblehome and were they built skin first?
