Got done watching Empire of Dust and it got me thinking about the situation in post colonial states such as the state of Congo featured in the documentary.

According to the belgian who made it, peopld there would ask him when the belhians were coming back despite the history of atrocities that took place under belgian rule. Condescending Chinaman here often waxes about how the nation he's working in has done nothing but decline since their colonial overlords left.

Is there a solution to this, though? These places seem to have missed two hundred years of development and there doesn't seem to be any practical way to remedy that, it's not like they can just become colonies again, that wouldn't really help the formation of a stable, independent nation-state.

Condescending but right.

The Congo people are pityable but wrong in their beliefs.

To make things work, they have to move past the past and go for the future.

>the history of atrocities that took place under belgian rule.
That was mostly under King Leo. The official Belgian administration was pretty good.
>>
The problem with Belgians is that when they left, they didn't leave any institutions behind. Most of leaders were Belgians, so you are left a country with no legistlative body, no legal institutions. Without those, infrastucture is useless when you have no one to take care of them.
So the big question is, how do you import those? The American way of bombing democracy isn't really bringing results we'd hope.

Is he arguably the most famous man of all times? The amount of research centered around this person is staggering if one considers that he was only for twelve years in power. Will there ever be another man with such a presence like him?

For better or for worse, he left a huge legacy. Muh evil and muh feels can't take that away. So yeah, he's up there as far as famous, or infamous, people go.

As for your last question, it remains to be seen. No current leader can compare to him in terms of presence, though.

Yes, he is to dictators what Michael Jackson is to pop music

If I'm not mistaken he is the second most written about person in history.

>Monarchy has been the standard method of ruling nations for 99% of recorded human history
>The overwhelming consensus nowadays is that monarchies are horrible in every conceivable way

Why and how

1. You're oversimplifying things. 'Monarchy' in the past had various different forms, from absolute monarchs to monarchs to supported by vassals to elected monarchs, and more.

2. Modern people mostly assume all monarchies were absolute monarchies.

3. Modern people are plebs who want to believe their ideology is perfect, amazing, and great because they get off on it. Same reason people in the Enlightenment made up those myths about the Middle Ages thinking the world was flat. Its so they look wiser by comparison.
>>
Monarchies are simply the most stable form of a strong man. They are stable because there is clear succession.

They all tend to maintain power by methods we would deem unacceptable today.
>>
>>1159388
>2. Modern people mostly assume all monarchies were absolute monarchies.
>M-Monarchies are good, so long as they are as far from monarchies as possible.

Why almost all of greatest generals of all time are Westerners ?

Are African, Asian, American generals that incopetent ?

What about Subutai, Khalid ibn al-Walid, Admirial yi, etc etc.

Subutai and Yi are easily in contention for top spot of land/sea generals respectively
>>
>>1155229
I don't think that's fair to say. I'd say it's rather that we have a Eurocentric view of history. Also when you say "American" do you mean Native American? Because we have competent generals in the US, probs not many in the rest of the Americas though. Do you consider the Carthaginians to be African? Surely Ancient China and Mongolia had competent generals.

Also it's more likely that nations that had better technology, manpower, military traditions lead to military success, which in turn lead to great generals. I'm just saying I think your perspective is too narrow.

I simply hate this "~le burden of proof" meme.

To negate something is also an affirmation about it. All knowledge needs sufficient reason.

If you deny the teapot on space, you also must give reasons to support this assertion. If you can't do this, you simply can't deny something, so you shut the fuck up.

The average Athenian citizen would be more swole than the average world championship weightlifter today

Is this true, or false to an extent?

Also were the Athenians the only ones to be hyperobsessed with masculinity and working out or were other Greek city states and Persians too? What about Romans? Which ancient civilisations were and weren't /fit/?

If you've seen what weightlifters look like you'd know that's complete bullshit. You have seen their statues and paintings, Grecian beauty ideals still dominate. Not to mention average Athenian citizen wouldn't have been able to maintain the diet to build champion weightlifter bulk. I mean fuck eating meat was mostly reserved to religious festivities.
>>
>>1156401
>Also were the Athenians the only ones to be hyperobsessed with masculinity and working out or were other Greek city states

Heavens to Murgatroyd! Don't forget Sparta!
>>
>>1156401
The average athenian would be more swole than the average man. WC weightlifters are pretty much at the apex of nutrition and exercise while the athenians had no access to the nutrition that olympic athletes consume. They werent obsessed with masculinity, but aesthetics in general which happened to include masculinity. Sparta was more obsessed with pure masculinity while Athenians were focused on a more eclectic idea.

If those who never hear of Christianity and never have a chance to be saved go to heaven when they die, and God wants us to join him in the kingdom of heaven, wouldn't it make the most sense to keep the religion a secret?

it is a valid condition only in a world in which the commandments of God are being spread. If we didn't have a covenant with God, he would simply destroy us forever
>>
>>1156373
Why would he destroy us? Is that in the scripture?

Also who is "we?" I know a lot of people who have no covenant with God, or at least are not aware of it. How many people need to have a covenant with God for us all to not be destroyed? Is it proportional to population? Is it just one person?
>>
>>1156408
>Why would he destroy us?
original sin, Adam and Eve. The punishment for sin is death. We are only alive because God executed our plan for our sins to be paid for and to save us from death.

> I know a lot of people who have no covenant with God,
The covenant God made is with all the nations.
> How many people need to have a covenant with God for us all to not be destroyed?
We all have this covenant. Of course not everyone accepts it. Those that reject it won't have eternal life. It is pretty clear.
The point is that if the covenant didn't exist God would simply destroy us because our existence is dependent on us being saved. Which answers your question of why it is not logical for us to keep the Word of God a secret.

Not sure if right forum, but... Can someone explain to me, why was Virgin Mary a virgin? I mean, he was married to Joseph, right? He didn't boink her at all?

NO! Joseph was not a homosexual.
