Job 1:21

Where does Hellenistic elements of Rome end and actual Roman culture begin?

Hellenistic elements = right brain

>poetry, art etc...

Roman elements = left brain

>bureaucracy, engineering etc...

Yes this is an over simplified meme answer but given your anime pic I doubt you'll mind.

I'm tired of getting bullied for my anime on an anime website, i've been here since 2012 show some respect

I picked this up for an introduction into Greek Mythology.

Any other Anons read it and can give me some insight into it's flaws/accuracies?

>>
>>1372121
I'd have suggested starting with Edith Hamilton's Mythology, personally.
>>
>>1372128
It seems silly to me to read a book which focuses on many different cultures mythology than reading something which focuses all it's effort onto one cultures mythlogy.

I will eventually get to the poetic edda. Who cares about the Roman mythology?

Opening poem.

By gathering the coils of time from my learning,
come to know the myths of ancient times.
Look not into the pages of Homor or of elegy,
nor to the tragic Muse or the lyric.
Nor seek clamorous verse of Cycilic poets. Look into me
and you will find in me all the comos holds.

R1a, J2a, and G2a account for 95% of Iranian people (speakers of Iranian languages and ethnic Iranians). These haplogroups still have the same distribution where Iranics have historically resided (Iranian plateau and Eurasia - above the Caspian Sea). Further North you'll find a heavier distribution of R1a, following by G2a in the Caucasus and J2a in the Iranian plateau. Related Indo-Europeans, such as Anatolian Turks (ancient: Hitties) have more or less the same distribution, except G2a is replaced with R1b.

Are there any haplogroups that are heavily associated with your people? I feel like haplogroups form more natural borders than modern ones do.

>>
What's the context? I haven't read much Aristotle, but it could just as easily mean tolerating immorality and being apathetic towards the problems in yourself/your society, rather than a modern idea of what "tolerance" is.

Of course quotes like that are fodder for being exploited without context anyway.
>>
>>1371539
yeah, it was a quote by David Duke actually

He used to be post as 14Aristotle88 on Stormfront.

Same as with the Descartes "give her the D." meme.

A man full of warm, speculative benevolence may wish his society otherwise constituted than he finds it, but a good patriot and a true politician always considers how he shall make the most of the existing materials of his country. A disposition to preserve and an ability to improve, taken together, would be my standard of a statesman. Everything else is vulgar in the conception, perilous in the execution.

Man pulled himself up out of the dirt in an uncaring universe. His purpose can be found by examining his form, like a tool. He exists in order to continue to exist, and that's why he does. His only duty is to continue to exist, and that entails a respect for his creators - his ancestors, his afterlife - his progeny and his enablers - his society. Beyond that I have never been convinced of any greater meaning to life.

Not using this to justify some """""alpha""""" bullshit or anything. I'm just saying that moralities only exists because they have managed to survive. Which is kind of self evident I suppose.

Do you disagree? Is this babby's first philosophy? I wouldn't mind being dissuaded.

>>1371190
Is there not something not exactly spiritual but similar in respect for one's ancestors and belief in one's progeny?

I always though that spirituality was about being part of something greater, and the history of life on earth is pretty big. I can see how religion is a kind of respect for ancestors though. I can get behind religion, but not spirituality. Just can't will myself to believe in it.

t- take that! Christfags! haha
>>
>>1371222
This is ignoring that spirituality is an essential human need. I'd prefer not to mythologise science but instead pay my debt to my ancestors through fulfilling my own spiritual needs by worshipping the religion established by their tradition.

Is this book historically accurate?

>>
It is a popular and simplified summary of lots of more rigorous work.

It has some merits and is very readable but it should not be taken too seriously.
>>
>>1371179
It isn't even written by a historian, so no. It is some guy throwing theories around, it isn't meant to be historically accurate.
>>
>>1371179
>broad, sweeping conclusions based on halfbaked "facts"
>written by someone without any expertise in history
>mostly consists of assumptions

In Marx's argument against Stirner, he derides the idea of "the creative individual", and says society creates, not individuals, and mentions that for instance Bach did not make anything on his own, he got all his ideas from society around him and needed workers to play the music, and that it is only "bourgeois individualism" which thinks of individuals are creative, nothing Bach created came from a vacuum.

Does /his/ agree with this?

>>
Kinda dumb to assume that humans don't have variation in their thoughts and experiences.

Then again, Marxism is the most autistic philosophy around.
>>
>>1371140
No, he's just saying all those variations are the product of society, not the individual.
>>
>>1371126
it's not a dichotomy m8
like bach didn't create the idiom of baroque art music or like invent instruments (though he did do a lot to legitimize the cello)
but he had real creative talent of his own, society didn't make him talented
