So I'm thinking of starting a history based Youtube channel and I'd like your guys opinion. I was going to make it primarily about untold war hero stories or just interesting war stories in general, do you guys think this could be successful and enjoyable to watch? Anything you guys would add to it to make it better?

If you just did like random one-off war stories with little to no context, I probably wouldn't watch it, but I'm sure more pop-history people would eat that shit up.

Honestly if you just have really good and fast editing it doesn't really matter what you're talking about though.

just do what you like man, nobody can tell you what will happen in advance

just also try to make the content good and well-researched please, and don't be controversial for the sake of controversy. too many garbage videos on youtube already

What the hell is going on in the southern Levant?

I was listening to taylor swift's wildest dream song and watched the video and noticed it was a story about a movie being shot in olden times, the 60s at most.

I know that the 50s are always idealised but are the 50 years prior to the present always idealised as an innocent and more glamorous time? Or is this a factor that only appears in the technological age?

My guess is that increasing levels of technology lead to more abstract jobs that just don't stimulate the feelings of people. Also more and more interaction is through screens (harder to idetify with even if news travels at lightning speed) and there's less centralisation of everything (so you have 50 news sources instead of 5, you have much less entertainment options). I think the latter centralisation aspect is also a key aspect. I'm not totally sure what that psychology research about option paralysis shows (whether it exists or not) but I think, as we see from forced high school and pretty much forced college, people feel happier when there's artificially created social interactions. Also movie stars were the shit because they didn't have youtubers, twitch streamers, netflix, tv, radio, and other stuff to crowd them out.

>but are the 50 years prior to the present always idealised as an innocent and more glamorous time?
I don't think anyone in my country idealised that time, ages are idealised because the people in said place were economically doing well in a way or another.

>>
>>1414545
This is fairly accurate, the 50s in the US were a time when a large majority of the country was doing fairly well economically, and even disadvantaged people (black people and others) were making some social and economic gains. Obviously not everybody shared equally in the success, but things were generally optimistic, and even though it couldn't last, a lot of people thought it would and things would just progress for everybody. Hence why people probably describe it as a more innocent time.

One of my friends, is apparently polyamorous, it's been making me think recently, is it really possible to love more than one person, because personally I would feel distrust and would not be able to.

>>
>>1414439
No, polyamory is a special snowflake meme. I understand the difficulty of monogamy and I'm definitely not saying don't have fun, but when it comes to love, it's just impossible to be in love with more than one person. Not true love, at least.

Also, nobody on 4chan has ever actually been in love (infatuation doesn't count), so honestly you're better suited discussing this with a better crowd.

The adulterous affair is the purest form of erotic love because it carries the greatest social risk to the participants. If you really love a girl, you should marry a different girl but still see her on the side.

Prove me wrong, oh wait, you can't.

What about pederasty?
BAM!
>>
>>1414441

Not a relationship between two equals, and hence, not a real erotic relationship. Very likely a sexual one, but it can have little more than just the animalistic.
>>
>>1414434
Let us say someone loved their wife as much. Would the fact they have not demonstrated it as vividly diminish their love? No. It is the same amount of love, they just don't have to cheat to be together.

Actual love levels and how easily observible their love is are separate things.

how the fuck can something like that be "for" anything?
>>
>>1414117
Your ego will die with your mortal body anyway, but in theory you can choose to get rid of it before your body actually dies (referred to as ego death). Even though in this theory your ego doesn't actually exist - so it doesn't actually die because there's nothing there to die. So ego death means you lose a false idea of yourself and you wake up to who you really are. And no this is not for faggots.

If there's no such thing as "right" and "wrong" then how can you say that's "correct"?
4 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>1413807
Correctness is an arbitrary state, whatever conforms to it is designated as correct.
>>
Is this question intentionally worded to be as misleading as possible? When people say there is no right or wrong, they are referring to ethics, not the validity of information.
>>
Truth Value isn't necessarily equivocal to "Right" or "Wrong". The latter two words are utilized in ethical questions.

The difference is between Is and Ought.

I was just reading that the vast majority of the camps were liberated by the soviets, who then promptly razed most of them. Then due to the cold war western researchers were prevented from accessing them.

Isn't that a little unsettling?

Why would they? It was during the cold war. What advantage would they get from this?

>In early 1863, Union naval commander David Dixon Porter resorted to a strange hoax after one of his best ships, the new ironclad USS Indianola, had run aground on the Mississippi River near Vicksburg, Mississippi and was captured by Confederate forces. As the latter were trying to repair the damaged Indianola and refloat her so that her powerful guns could be turned against Porter's remaining fleet, Porter ordered the construction of a giant dummy ironclad out of barges, barrels and other materials at hand. Fashioned to look like a real warship – even down to logs sticking out of the sides and painted to resemble cannons – the huge craft, painted black to give it a sinister appearance and flying the pirate Jolly Roger flag, was put on the water and floated downstream. It silently sailed in the night past Rebel shore batteries, impervious to their gunfire and not returning their fire at all. News and exaggerated rumors of the mysterious and seemingly indestructable super-ship quickly spread through Vicksburg and reached the Confederate salvage crews working on the Indianola; in a panic, they halted their salvage efforts, instead just blowing up the Indianola and abandoning the wreckage site, thus failing in their mission to salvage and reuse the ship. When the giant dummy ship finally ran aground and was captured and inspected by the Confederates, Southern newspapers got hold of the story and roundly criticized their military and naval authorities for having been unable to tell the difference between a real warship and a fake one.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Indianola_(1862)

>ship runs aground
>general builds a fake ship that looks like the ship that ran aground to redirect attention so that the grounded ship could be repaired
>everyone loses their shit when they see it, and news returns to the people repairing the grounded ship
>repair teams fucking freak out and try to explode ship instead as they flee in terror

i want to get into philosophy of physics/science but I don't know where to start.

while we're at it, is there also any good introductory book on philosophy of mathematics?

Best philosophy of science books that I've read are Thomas Kuhn's Structure of Scientific Revolutions (an easy read) and Karl Popper's Logic of Scientific Discovery (long and super dense). I'm sure there's other important stuff out there, but these two are pretty influential, especially Kuhn.
