I've heard mixed things here. The Catholic position posits that he did and that he is buried there to this day based on extrapolation of some letters by Clement.
Others say his remains were found in Jerusalem and that there is no historical or archeological basis that he was ever there.
Opinions? What is the general historical consensus? Is there a biblical/historical precedent for the papal seat or was enacted after the fact?
It's not biblical, as if the papists would care

Dunno. His bones are in Jerusalem, though. The bones the Vatican claims are Peter's are, as usual for the Vatican, a lie.
I don't think he'd make any difference even if he'd made it - he was a poor illiterate Jewish fisherman who spoke neither Latin nor Greek, I doubt there was large enough Aramaic-speaking community for him to preach. If anything, fully hellenized Paul was way more influential.
What does /his/ think about the Black Hebrew Israelites? Is there a possibility that the Israelites have African origins rather than the Semitic ones we commonly think of today?

first post says it all
Their culture is confucian and by extension heavily based on honor-shame
Shame is a public thing, and regaining your honor is a public thing as well
The christian west is guilt-innocence
In a guilt culture you know you are good or bad by what your conscience feels. In a shame culture you know you are good or bad by what your community says about you, by whether it honors or excludes you. In a guilt culture people sometimes feel they do bad things; in a shame culture social exclusion makes people feel they ARE bad.

Why did Iran close this man's shrine/tomb? Does he really bother Sunni Muslims that much? What is /his/ thoughts in general on Piruz Nahavandi?
>>1478671
It's hard to build islamic unity if you celebrate a guy who literally murdered one of the first reighteous caliphs.
I get that he's an icon of national resistance, but it's bound to alienate a lot of people, including Iranian sunnis.

So like, all five of them? I think its funnier how much collective Sunni butthurt there is over the guy that they demanded the Iranian government shut down his shrine or demolish it.
Why do people generally picture the Vietnam war as a bunch of GIs getting sniped in the jungle by pajama wearing peasants when 80% of that war were air campaigns? Is it because of movies?

So I wasn't sure if this belonged in /his/ or /int/,so I'm posting it here since I'd imagine you guys would know more about it.
So as we all know, Alexander was half greek and half macedonian. However, the macedonian part was ancient macedonian, which I believe was greek. However modern Macedonia, a slavic nation, claims that Alexander is related to them instead of Greece.
Now I understand that Macedonia sees Alexander as this awesome guy who they would love to be related to, but aren't modern Macedonians descended from Slavic people who travelled there long after Alexander died?
TL:DR In what way do modern Macedonians think they're related to Alexander?
>>1477720
Seeing as how modern Macedonia isn't even where the ancient Macedonia was, nothing I'd say
Though it's not like migrating slavs just kicked the natives out either, they integrated and are probably largely the same Eastern-Roman-Dacian-Greeks that have inhabited that are since whenever that have been slavicized
Well my friend the truth actually is this:
Alexander the Great's soldiers travelled with him to Afghanistan where they conquered the local tirbes and intermarried with them. One of these tribes was called the Bulgars, rougly 1000 years later they migrated to Macedonia over the steppes.
So you can see that there is a clear continuity in Macedonia and despite some slight ethnic intermingling the population has remained largely the same since the days of Alexander the Great.
>>1477732
Not in the same place? I thought parts of ancient macedonia were in Greece, Macedonia and Hungary (or was it Bulgaria)?
I'm really interested in this time period but don't know much about it or many legends/stories from the time, except for classics such as The Forty Seven Ronin etc.
