I've heard mixed things here. The Catholic position posits that he did and that he is buried there to this day based on extrapolation of some letters by Clement.
Others say his remains were found in Jerusalem and that there is no historical or archeological basis that he was ever there.
Opinions? What is the general historical consensus? Is there a biblical/historical precedent for the papal seat or was enacted after the fact?

The christian west is guilt-innocence
In a guilt culture you know you are good or bad by what your conscience feels. In a shame culture you know you are good or bad by what your community says about you, by whether it honors or excludes you. In a guilt culture people sometimes feel they do bad things; in a shame culture social exclusion makes people feel they ARE bad.

So I wasn't sure if this belonged in /his/ or /int/,so I'm posting it here since I'd imagine you guys would know more about it.
So as we all know, Alexander was half greek and half macedonian. However, the macedonian part was ancient macedonian, which I believe was greek. However modern Macedonia, a slavic nation, claims that Alexander is related to them instead of Greece.
Now I understand that Macedonia sees Alexander as this awesome guy who they would love to be related to, but aren't modern Macedonians descended from Slavic people who travelled there long after Alexander died?
TL:DR In what way do modern Macedonians think they're related to Alexander?

Though it's not like migrating slavs just kicked the natives out either, they integrated and are probably largely the same Eastern-Roman-Dacian-Greeks that have inhabited that are since whenever that have been slavicized

Well my friend the truth actually is this:
Alexander the Great's soldiers travelled with him to Afghanistan where they conquered the local tirbes and intermarried with them. One of these tribes was called the Bulgars, rougly 1000 years later they migrated to Macedonia over the steppes.
So you can see that there is a clear continuity in Macedonia and despite some slight ethnic intermingling the population has remained largely the same since the days of Alexander the Great.
