Sorry if this is too broad. I'm interested in reading some books on the history of the world, but obviously there's so much material out there. What would be /his/'s starter pack for such a thing? In particular I'd enjoy some in-depth views starting from antiquity going forward, as well as varied regions like Asian history, etc.
Pic unrelated but something like this (if it doesn't already exist) would be helpful for the budding /his/torian.
Hopeful bump
Stop thinking through a 4chan lens
Not everything has to be in a "starter kit" or a "/his/ approved" list.
Ask for a period of history, or a certain event/person, etc and I'll help you out

It is better to discover books on yer own. But here's some ideas:
- War and peace and war - Peter Turchin
- Look for some book on the Silk Road there are several
- 1491 and 1493 by Charles Mann, it covers South America and its effect on Europe and beyond
I am personally looking for something on Africa, Australia and Polynesia. So if anybody got any ideas, hit me up!
Why did society change from the conformity of the 1950s and earlier to the individuality of the late 1960s and later so quickly? Why wasn't it a gradual transition?

This is the answer for why we advanced so fast all of a sudden, we could easily talk with the whole world - something which was never possible before.
In 100 years the quality of the world changed immensly just because we were able to talk to each other, what would happen if we stopp fighting?

Why is Ayn Rand's Objectivism not classified as an actual ideology or at least a pseudo-ideology?
Because it's the exact opposite of Soviet communism as practised when she lived in the USSR. It seems to have good advice, because doing the opposite of the Soviets is good advice in general, but it doesn't hold together as consistent; each policy is merely based on being different from the Soviet equivalent, not on any underlying philosophy.

Literally Shit
It's like pornography, I can't define it, but I know it when I see it.
Is there an objective, materialistic way to determine whether or not one is a cuck, or is cuckoldry a mere spook? If one enjoys the experience of watching as one's girlfriend copulates with a black man, does one automatically become a cuck despite not identifying as one?
Iirc cuck has become a literal term. True chastizing may not really be chastity though. When my boyfriend is in chastity, he still gets hard and drips pre.
>>1479807
a cuckold by definition is a person whose spouse is unfaithful.
that's the objective definition, that doesn't necessarily indicate anything about a person who is a cuckold. once you add context then you can go further into this subject
>If one enjoys the experience of watching as one's girlfriend copulates with a black man, does one automatically become a cuck despite not identifying as one?
yes you are
cuckoldry as a status and cuckoldry as a fetish are separate concepts. you can be a cuckold and not be into cuckoldry just as you can not be a cuckold and get off to videos of cuckoldry.
any person who starts a thread on 4chan is a cuck

Playing M&B made me ask this:
How often did shields break in battle?
I see it in plenty of media all the time and it seems plausible given that they're usually made of wood and hitting them repeatedly with something heavy meant they're breakable.
But was this really a regular occurence? Like your shield eventually reduced to a splintered mess after battle? Seems not given that shitloads of militaries relied on forms of shield walls in battle.
>>1479278
A shield isn't an impenetrable bulwark you can hide behind indefinitely. It's (usually) made of wood, leather, maybe edged in iron/steel with metal spars to reinforce it. It'll take some damage, but it will split and splinter. A good swing from a dane ax will smash through a shield in all likeliness. Against lighter weapons they're more useful, but still won't take repeated bashing for too long unless it's a high quality example.
>>1479278
Depends on the shield really.
You have either wicker shields with leather coverings, simple wooden two cross-plied shields, and shit like the Aspis which is a wooden, crossplied shield with a bronze facing and gets passed from father to son.

Why are there no weapons found in any of the several Indus Valley Civilization archaeology sites?
By what means do you suspect the Indus Valley had the ability to trade with the Mesopotamians? overland? by sea? which routes on land? on sea?
What genetic stock do you suspect the Indus Valley civilization to contain? Are they Aryans? offshoots of Indian aboriginals? Something entirely different?
>>1479118
By sea obviously like everyone did back then since it was much cheaper
>>1479118
>Why are there no weapons found in any of the several Indus Valley Civilization archaeology sites?
What are you talking about? They've found spear and arrowheads at them.
>By what means do you suspect the Indus Valley had the ability to trade with the Mesopotamians? overland? by sea? which routes on land? on sea?
Sea seems more likely. Don't several of the Sumerian inscriptions relating to "Meluhha" talk about the ports?
>>1479141
>What are you talking about? They've found spear and arrowheads at them.
Don't be coy. The amount of weapons found in the Indus Valley sites are shockingly low, almost embarrassingly so when you account for the amount of dice and toys they found.
