Serious questions:

Where does anime/stuff like pic related fall in art history?

Clearly it's representational and not abstract like Richter or Kandinsky or anything, but is it still considered postmodern?

What would Gombrich or Janson have thought of all these randoms across the world sharing digital art about cute girls doing everyday things?

Any books on this stuff?

Why did the Sepoy Mutiny not spread all across India? Was its failure to spread the cause of its ultimate defeat?

The rebellion failed for a number of reasons, namely a lack of co-ordination due to the spontaneous nature of the uprising combined with the cultural and geographic vastness of India which made communication between the rebels more difficult than it otherwise would have been in a smaller state.
As well as this, the rebels did not set out a clear agenda for what a post-colonial India would look like and their disparate aims and motivations made victory unlikely as the rebels were divided along religious lines and were fighting for different things, the one thing they had in common being a desire to see the British gone. Had it not been for the British then it is certain that these rebels would have likely been warring against one another as they had done for millennia prior and to an extent still do today.

Lastly, the rebels lacked the support among the upper classes and intelligentsia of India not to mention the rising merchant class, all of whom tied their security and prospects to continued British rule which gave the British much needed materials. Among the "ordinary" folk little had changed meaning that millions of ordinary Indians did not particularly care whether or not the rebellion was successful.

there were of course many other factors, including the personal shortcomings of the rebellion's leaders such as Peshwa, but the reasons outlined above explain broadly why the rebellion failed and was ultimately defeated. Many of those reasons can also be extrapolated to help account for why no major subsequent rebellions were attempted.

George Fleury and Harry Dunstaple were also major influences, given that they managed to get Hari (the Maharjah's son) on board, and also Fleury with his shit poetry which acted as a form of psychological warfare against the rebels.

PATRICIAN ART ONLY.

Ancient, Medieval, Byzantine, Renaissance, Academic, Modern, Post-modern, anything goes just so long as it is patrician.

That means NO Ilya Plebin, Caspar David Plebrich, Pleb-Raphaelites, Implebionism, etc.

What if Genghis Khan was never born and the Mongols stayed in central Asia forever? Would gunpowder still get to Europe? Would the plague still happen? What would the Middle East be like without the Mongols destroying Arab civilization?

>>
>>1472717
The bubonic plague probably won't have spread to Europe, which means serfdom will still be in all of Europe and not just Russia. Also the Ming dynasty probably wouldn't have risen in China and probably would continue to trade with everyone allowing them to continue being the global leader in technology.
>>
>>1472717
Also, the Islamic caliphate probably would have stayed strong and the Ottomans wouldn't exist.
>>
>>1472733
Islamic caliphate was already falling apart because of the shit ton of Iranian principalities were shattering their power and making it harder and harder for the Abbassids to do anything.

What did they do with all that blood? Is this show (Vikings) even accurate with their rituals? Or is this just more History Channel nonsense?

I would read up on it, I know there are plenty of articles, but I'm only on season 1.

And just to make it more /his/ let's make it a Norse blood ritual thread, the concept is quite frankly fascinating.

I imagine that like mostly everything in this show (and pretty much any history based show), it is based off something that did actually happen in some way, but they're made it more dramatic for entertainment purposes.

In this case, yeah, the vikings did practice human sacrifices, a lot of the Gods demanded them. What happened in this particular scene that you want to know if it's true or not?
>>
>>1472664
What you must, must, MUST understand about Vikings (the show), is that it isn't a documentary. It isn't a 100% historically accurate depiction of what actually happened. It's more like a saga, a dramatic way of showing many of the ideas and beliefs of the period and culture. The armour is wrong, the clothes are iffy, the tactics a joke and the timeline all screwed up, but it's still useful as a slightly fanciful view of the legends and stories of the period.

tl;dr: Not a documentary, still worth watching.
>>
Vikings is based on the legend of Ragnar, so no, it isn't very historical in a lot of cases. Generally it is useful for understanding the first biking incursions into England and the reasons for the Great Heathen Army attacking also.

Randism is much more appropriate name for it. It is shameful that we complied with her and still call her own subjective arbitrary philosophy "Objectivism", which should be a much more generic term.

It's reputed to have happened from time to time. But bare in mind that medieval beds had a curtain round them, so while you might have people listening, they wouldn't see much.

What is the relation between modern Germans and the "Germanic peoples" of Roman times?

Modern Germans are a Germanic ethnic group

Like Danes, English, Swedes, Norwegians, Austrians, Dutch, Icelandics, etc

Modern Germans are like "American Cheese"

a bunch of Germanic tribes mixed together into one slurry

What is the best time period, and why is it Baroque?

1. "Baroque" is not a time period, but an artstyle.

2. Baroque architecture is horrid.

You are an enemy to the revolution. If you stand in the way of liberation, prepare to be crushed.

So were all the Moors black, or was it that if you were a 13th century Englishman and you saw a black guy he was probably A Moor.
3 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>1472228
It's because the painters at the time were probably stupid and very liberal in their use of the word Moor. They helped spawn the 'WE WUZ' movement among blacks.
>>
>>1472228
Some where some were mixed some didn't look black. It varied, the genetics of North Africa is very complicated and interesting.

Moor could mean a north African style/of North Africa or be synonymous with blackness.
