Considerable given the enormity of the Empire and their presence across the island. It's also important to remember the remoteness of the island to the mainland, sabotaging many attempts of relief from allies.

Depends on how long the war lasts and when it starts.

For most of the Cold War, the Soviets had a massive conventional superiority in the main theater of conflict which would be Europe. They would likely advance quickly and relatively easily. They would almost certainly overrun Germany, Denmark, the Low Countries, France, Spain, and Portugal. They might have trouble in Italy (narrow terrain and lots of mountains makes advancing difficult), they would very likely be unable to advance into Britain. They might or might not be able to overrun the Scandinavian countries (it's hard to move a lot of troops around up there)

However, the U.S. alone can outbuild the Soviet Union pretty badly. The UK is likely to survive, which adds another decent economy to the mix, you also have Canada, possibly Italy, and whatever "third world" countries are taking sides (although some will inevitably side with Moscow, but given the NATO control of the commons, they will likely do much better in these brush wars). If they build long enough, and are willing to accept the inevitable cost in blood and treasure, they will win, eventually. The question becomes whether the will to fight gives out before the Western material advantage becomes insurmountable.

However, the question is a bit absurd. NATO's policy was to counter Soviet conventional advantages in the short term with a nuclear deterrent. If Soviet tanks start moving into Germany, I can't see them not letting the nukes fly.
