Can someone fill me in on one of the first monotheistic religions? It seemed kind of strange that I know next to nothing about it.
>>1847068
Basically proto-Christianity/Islam where you had Zoroaster as the prophet, Ahura Mazda as god and Angra Mainyu as the devil.
>>1847269
Compare angra mainyu to the devil is pretty incorrect. In Christian theology, the devil was created by God and he's powerful but not omnipotent.
In Zoroastrian theology, Ahriman is uncreated and is just as powerful as Madza, reason for why the latter can't just make everything just and good.
>>1847293
It wasn't because of that, its because life is a struggle but the overarching theme in Zoroastranism is that the dualistic nature of mankind is a struggle between good and evil but man is inherently good.
Ahriman was also not the devil really either.
What was the most important roman city after Rome?
>>1841529
Byzantium
/thread
Istanbul (Not Constantinople)
>>1841534
He said AFTER Rome. Constantinople was far more important.
Guess I'd say Mediolanum or Ravenna.
>every dipshit neckbeard autist who was obsessed with vikings is now obsessed with crusaders
>>1848321
I blame Islam
>>1848326
I wonder how many of them can comprehend that the crusaders mostly failed at what they set out to do.
Like, at least vikings were kinda mystified in pop culture? We know exactly what happened with the crusaders and it wasn't impressive. They didn't get along with the Byzantines either, but a fuckton of crusaderposters practically conflate the two.
>>1848328
>stopped Islam advancing
>reclaimed Iberia
>Christianised Baltic
Seems like a win to me.
Aside from the Gospels, it is like when we read what Apostle Paul says about Christianity, we actually learn something really important.
All of these churches and these so called leaders of these establishments, none of them can come close to Paul's revelation.
About how many of you realize that the personal relationship is more important than any institution of Christianity? What is more important, God, or your denomination?
Anyways, it seems like many people are less interested in Christianity because of Christians who misunderstood what is taught, and because of atheists blowing up scripture and propaganda.
Another day goes by.
Also, how many of you actually care about learning anything? It seems like the content on this board is minimal, and its like no one actually wants to learn anything.
Allow this to sink in before responding.
It seems kind of pretentious but yeah I guess it does seem like no one on here is really looking for any knowledge, at least religious posts.
>>1847732
Just very surprised at the awful content. Its like people forsake good learning for something temporal like insulting someone or posting some nonsense that everyone seems to eat up.
I know its the internet, but you would think the person is more in charge than the computer...
>>1847752
Hmm maybe 4chan has employees who spit out shit memes all day so people will be discouraged by learning anything religious or spiritual or it could just be people who don't care for this stuff because 4chan has porn and all this nasty shit so when they see anything about God they freak out.
Even Christians on here will freak out over information about Gnosis because everyone on here is convinced Gnosis means Lucifer but they never actually really look into anything besides memes. They think Paul did something bad and it's kind of a shit assumption because Paul knew way more than the letters he wrote
Why was he so salty about women?
"Great men are like eagles, and build their nest on some lofty solitude."
"To live alone is the fate of all great souls."
>>1842704
He didn't like men either, or people in general.
He just said things how they are and some people get upset about that.
>>1842708
I think it's petty to tell yourself to be one of those great men because some girl 26 years younger said no.
>>1842717
Schopenhauer was a great man. However, Schopenhauer is best read for his analysis rather than his interpretations. Between the bits of self-pity and self-aggrandisement is a lot of truth.
Why is he the most famous one?
>Frankish realm was united by Clovis I. and expanded by his sons
>The fighting between majordomos was won by Pippin II.
>Arabs were beaten by Martel
It seems he just go handed the greatest realm in the region to him by his ancestors and he expanded it a bit further, like he didn't actually have to do any hard job. Why is he the one revered so greatly when Clovis or Pippin were the ones actually founding the Frankish realm which he ruled?
Granted i don't know shit about the period, i'm genuinely interested
>>1841114
He united the two Francic kingdoms (until his death at least), got the crown of Lombardy and was the first actual ruler since the fall of Rome to be named emperor. Also because his empire was the predecessor of the Karling kingdoms (West and East Francia, Bavaria) that were created after the Treaty of Verdun and would go on to become France and the Holy Roman Empire.
>>1841114
He fucking held Rome and was the first Holy Roman Emperor, blessed by the Pope. Anyone not listening to stupid /his/ memes would know that the title doesnt mean "This guy is Roman Emperor." But "This guy takes over the job of Latter Roman Emperors who were defenders of Christfaggotry." Hence the holy part. In addition, his house gave birth to many Euronigger dynastic houses.
In addition he oversaw the centralization of his empire, the knights traced their origin in Carolingian cavalry. His realm became wealthy and he used it to either rebuild Roman cities, build new ones, and patronized the Church and other entities for their projects. He also managed to make peace with shitloads of former enemies like the Muslims in Spain and the Byzantines.
>>1841114
Also, the Carolingian Renaissance.
itt: post your country's greatest victory and its worst defeat.
Pic related. Vicksburg was pure genius, a masterpiece of operational art on every level, and featured Grant utterly outwitting several Confederate generals and annihilating a force that outnumbered him, had superior defensive position, and had interior lines, all over a vast area. The first Philippines campaign was a major clusterfuck that shouldn't have even happened to begin with (i.e. there shouldn't have been American troops in the Philippines, the Navy had long since deemed them impossible to hold in the event of war). MacArthur should've been working as a military janitor in New Mexico for the rest of the war.
Britbongs especially welcome, I'm curious about your choices since there are so many for both categories.
Germany here
Best: Teutoburg Forest
Worst: Jena–Auerstedt
Also American, and a War of 1812 aficionado.
Bladensburg (Aug 24, 1814) was a shameful display, although the Marines at least put up a good fight.
New Orleans (Jan. 8, 1815), on the other hand, was a hilarious spanking of the British.
>>1839774
And what, pray tell, could MacArthur have done about it? It's not like it's his fault that WPO-3 was utter crap? And as you pointed out, it was a long way from re-supply and right in the middle of the Japanese sphere of influence.

Where is dilema here? Is guy on the upper your wife's son or something?
It occurred to me that Russia, India & China -while being meme "republics"- largely retain the territories of their vast historic empires.
Meanwhile European colonial empires are all gone.
Considering that supposedly the rhetoric of today's age is that "Empires r ded and Nation-States rule," how come these three """"""nation states"""""" managed to retain their old empires while Europeans failed?
>>1844390
>Land Empires turn out to be easier kept than overseas ones.
Whoopdeefuckingdo.

India isn't a westphalian nation state though.

Uh.
Why did the French have such shitty weapons compared to everyone else in WW1?
>>1842743
They really didn't. The French 75's portability and value in the war of maneuver were self-evident following the Marne and the hundred day's offensive while larger-caliber howitzers lagged behind such that they were exported all over the world. In terms of small arms they were unexceptional but hardly terrible, with the exception of the Chauchat.
In the air the SPADs and the Nieuport 17 were excellent fighters, and while the French had some terrible tank designs (pic related), they did end the war with the first recognizably modern tank, the FT-17.
>>1842777
OK if not shitty then why did everyone else have small arms that were ahead of the French?
>>1842777
Why would a rifle need to hold more than 3 rounds at a time?
I think one of the biggest challenges for relatively intelligent people is understanding really stupid people. More intelligent people can actually be more predictable, because there is usually some kind of logic behind what they are going to say and do. Not so much with real dumbasses.
I'm talking mainly about people who make obviously bad decisions in their lives (like trying to commit petty crime that clearly won't benefit them) as well as dumb people with no critical thinking who still think they are smart (either conspiracy theorists or those who blindly believe everything from whatever media they consume). Sometimes I just find the thought process of people like that completely mind-boggling.
So, what is the best way to figure out such people, to get an idea about their experience?
IMO there really isn't such a gulf between stupid and intelligent; most people are just preoccupied, harried by everyday problems, concentrating on pursuits not considered intellectual, don't overthink things, or otherwise behave in a simple but effective manner.
The decision to commit some petty crime was probably sound in that particular situation, since they needed immediate relief from some other problem like boredom or poverty. Thinking of consequences would just get in the way.
Conspiracy theorists need something to keep mentally busy with, so they come up with something. Again, not necessarily stupid - just on a different track.
Which is not to say that I recommend either of those options. It's just that I think classic intelligent behaviour is also a matter of being lucky enough to be in a mental and physical situation that promotes it.
I consistently score 90 on IQ tests, let me green text what my life is like with my intellectual faculties:
>can't appreciate literature on any meaningful level
>philosophy of any kind is impossible to understand, even with companion books
>can read an entire page without remembering anything you've read
>constantly have to re-read sentences to full comprehend them
>never retain what little that you remember for longer than a month
>can't appreciate music on any meaningful level; it's just nice sounds with no preference for one genre or another
>can barely string together a sentence without pausing or ummming for significant periods of time
>can't understand compound interest and don't care to
>literally have no in depth knowledge about any thing; a moderately intelligent person can probably outperform me in all tasks I've considered to have mastered after a few days of preparation
Take a subject you don't know much about - there must be one. Bonus points if there's a board about it on 4chan.
Lurk the board / research it for a day, then take all the knowledge you obtained and parrot it like you're an expert. You'll be saying shit you picked up with no deeper understanding of why you're saying it, some of it might be outright false, but dig your heels in.
That's basically what its like. Of course, there are also stupid people who realize they're stupid, but they're leagues smarter than the stupid people who don't.
>read Mein Kampf
>literally just pages and pages of him glorifying himself and his so called 'struggle'
>literally dedicates an entire chapter on propaganda and how the masses are stupid (distributes the same book years later in 1933, somehow this doesnt offend anyone)
>literally uses the words "jew" "jewry" or "jewishness" in every second page
alright whats up, did this get shown up by a jew or something at one point
did some jewish girl ignore him on a train?
It's the most whiny emo shit I've ever seen. No wonder /pol/, the eternal victim complex, loves it.
& Jews

Hitler went from some street kid to the leader of the third reich and is arguably the most prolific man of the 20th century. He wasnt stupid
If you had to live in a fantasy world based off of only one ethnicity's mythology, what would it be?
The golden standard might well be Germanic, what with the dwarves, elves, trolls and whatnot but games like The Witcher have shown Slavic mythology to be very wholesome and entertaining, so I'm confident there's some underappreciated folklore out there.
>>1841574
Aztec or Maya mythology. It's wholly untapped in the entertainment industry. You have trickster, world creations and destructions 4 or 5 times, love affairs, bizzare impregnations, little rain helpers, ballgames in the underworld with death, human eating giants, river spirits (mermaid), aluxes (elves), bats with a death dealing penis, palaces of fire and darkness, half werejaguar half bat vampires, incest, drunken rabbits, and bizzare deities to name a few.
>>1841574
More or less every civilization has a big mythology its just that we don't know shit about them.

English longbow, it could shoot cleanly through solid steel plate.
