Bonus points for stuff we haven't all seen a million times before.
Which states in history could be called an "Empire of slavers and rapists?"
All of them until 1991.
>>2156439
Rome technically
The Muslims, I know its not an empire but they established the first trade routes with west Africa where they traded slaves and salt for gold. That's the slavery part but I don't know if rape culture in Islam was like it is today back then

Just think about how amazing the last 100 years would have been if Moltke had kept better control of his armies and that gap hadn't developed. A glorious Europe under Prussian Junker control. No Nazis. No commies. No Muslims.
Is it true that the modern concept of ninjas is based entirely on the Japanese stagehands who dressed in black so the audience wouldn't notice them? What did ninjas actually do? Were they a title (as in someone would say "send my ninja to kill that motherfucker") or was it just a word used to describe people who didn't consider themselves ninjas but did sneaky things?
NINJA VANISH

DOMO HAJIMESHITE
Ninja is actually a spy and assassin. They either work as individual for a feudal lord or work for mercenary organization. Since chivalry aka Bushido code was a big thing over there, they need someone to do dirty, sneaky, dishonoraburu job that no warrior class would want. So Ninja exist for that.
SAYONARA
I am super curious about this movement.
Was there any music specifically connected to this?
Is there anything today that is seen as having been started or inspired by the Arts and Crafts Movement?

Not that I know of.
Really /his/?
You know nothing?
At least I don't feel stupid, I suppose.
What is this?
Kemal Ataturk stated: "Our religion is a rational, plausible religion, which is why it is the last valid religion"
Prove him wrong /his/

sage for shitpost OP
Muhammad split the moon in half.
So I'd say he's right.
>europeans didn't bathe in the middle ages
>they threw feces and urine out of there windows onto the streets below
>everyone smelled bad
Surely these are all memes, right? Like I can understand rarely bathing in the winter time, but no way did people just throw their shit out of their windows into what would be essentially their front lawns. I read an article about a man who stopped showering for a month as an experiment, and all the arm chair historians came out in the comment section

Depends when and where within "medieval Europe". Theres still surviving 15th century local laws for places like London, York and Coventry that make it explicitly clear that people need to keep the streets clean and tidy and increasingly severe penalties for not doing so. One of the first things Edward IV does after seizing the throne of England is to fire the guys in charge of carrying the shit out of London as they had been taking the money but not actually doing anything.
Flash forward a few decades thiugh and Erasmus describes people pissing on the floor of their own house and the floor being caked in filth and matted coverings that had just been layered up, when he visited England. Can't help but wonder if he was litterally describing an actual house, or being metaphoric.
>>2156154
I hate anglos as much as the next guy, but I doubt they were pissing on their own floors.
>>2156159
That's what he says
"covered with rushes, occasionally renewed, but so imperfectly that the bottom layer is left undisturbed, sometimes for twenty years, harbouring expectoration, vomiting, the leakage of dogs and men, ale droppings, scraps of fish, and other abominations not fit to be mentioned."
If Neanderthals had survived instead of Homo sapiens, would they be better off than us? They seemed smarter and got extinct only because we reproduct faster.
>>2156095
>They seemed smarter and got extinct only because we reproduct faster
They were also shittier at war because they didn't have the hand-eye coordination of Homo Sapiens which means they couldn't use projectile weapons with nearly the same efficacy.
> They seemed smarter

plot twist: They didn't disappear, they colonized Atlantis and lived in secret observing our primitive behaviour. Then when we discovered them they went to colonize space.
So did the ancient Greeks have knowledge about other distant races? Reading mythology by Edith Hamilton I read something about how the greeks believed that where strange races of men that existed beyond the ocean like the Hyperborean and Cimmerians, was this the greeks interpretation of other distant races?
Probably not
Europe didn't know much about anything east of Persia until the high medieval period, when extensive trade networks were established by Christian monasteries
>>2156039
>when extensive trade networks were established by Christian monasteries
u wot m8
tin trade routes stretched from Afghanistan to Greece during the bronze age, people definitely knew a lot more than we think they did
>>2156050
And yet all of that collapsed into irrelevance at the end of the Bronze Age
Why are people so much better looking today than the ones in black and white photos and from the 80s or before?

Loaded question, they aren't.

I'm a little confused on what exactly an empire is and how its different from a 'regular' kingdom.
Is it the trappings/vestiges of republicanism, like in Imperial Rome and Napoleonic France? Or is it the shear amount of land and subjects, get big enough and yourself an empire? Is its it holding a lot of different peoples under one government? Or is it having lesser kings as vassals?
>>2155888
It's all about the dickwaving actually.
>>2155888
An empire has an emperor, a kingdom has a king, there's no real difference except for the prestige

Why was this allowed to happen?
Why didn't the people (specifically the Chinese and Russians) in the 50's and 60's see what was happening and stop it?
Same reason why Americans saw what was going on in El Salvador, but they kept giving them guns and money. They didn't care because they were on their side.
>>2155427
El Salvador never announced their own Atomic program and then received assistance from the Americans
North Korea on the other hand...
Doesn't seem like a truly valid comparison
Stop what, exactly? A single-party dynastic dictatorship of a buffer state? What's the problem here exactly, if you're the USSR or gommie China?
What exactly IS heaven, and why is it never explained in detail?
Also why is the Christian concept of heaven so different from Islam and Judaism?
>>2155213
Christian heaven was influenced by Greco Roman ideas of heaven.
It is where you get to experience the Benevolence of God.
He will give you whatever you ask for. He will give everyone what they ask for.
You can look like anything you want to, have any body, go anywhere, do anything that is not evil.
If you want to roleplay as a dragon slayer in a fantastic land you can. If you want to battle other people in a sci-fi shooter scenario on a spaceship, you can do that. You can take on the appearance of an alpha male and have sex with hundreds of angels.
You can even see God Himself in a beatific vision.

That doesn't sound ideal at all. What happens when you run out of things you want to do?
