Hi everyone,
If anyone's interested in reading history books and discussing it in a group of fellow /his/torians, please join us. We're starting with an abridged version of Clausewitz's "On War" published by Oxford's World Classics collection.
The group will be reading 10 pages a day of Clausewitz, but you're free to read more or less than that. Feel free, too, to join the discussion whenever you feel like! All we want is to share ideas, spur interest in history and attain knowledge.
WE HAVE PDF/EPUB COPIES OF ALL THE BOOKS WE ARE VOTING FOR. So no need to go out and buy anything, as they will be freely distributed to you. In fact, here is a link to a free download of the abridged clausewitz:

If you want to deepen your knowledge or supplement the discussion I recommend looking at the oxford annotated bibliography article dedicated to Clausewitz, as the bookanon does in the recommendation threads.

It's a funny paradox.
Marxism only ever works in small communities where people can trust each other fully, but it can only continue long term if everyone adopts it.
If "True Communism" ever ended up happening, the lack of leadership would make them get destroyed by any nation that wanted to invade them before they could set up an entire military to defend.
Basically, Communism can't survive in the world at large unless everyone does it, or else the people who don't do it will take them over and become the actual world leader.
