We are all familliar with the myth of plump women being attractive in the Renaissance period. Paints from the era depict plump and pale women as the ideal of beauty.
Biologically this seems impossible, but i cant find credible sources to disprove or prove this myth in a way that satisfies me. Plump/overweight women being thought as more attractive than fit (not size zero skeletons mind you) doesnt make sense to me in ANY era (not that they are ugly - but just not as attractive to the average male as fit women). Maybe they were thought as more prestigious, maybe the clothing at the time was less forgiving to plump women than today. Maybe it was a fetish of Renaissance painters.
It will be great if anyone could shed any light on the matter. This subject is loaded with too many wishful thinking for it to make any sense without credible sources.

>Biologically this seems impossible,
Well if it's true and "seems impossible," then I guess you don't understand biology as well as you think you do.
Most of the women depicted by Renaissance era painters were generally women of the nobility or landed gentry. If one was able to spend their money on such a frivolity then it stands to reason that they were among the wealthier members of Renaissance society. Now you have to remember that noble/rich families of the time commissioned such works not just for their own egos but also as a display of their family's prestige and wealth. These paintings would be displayed in their villas and palaces for guests and servants to view and presented an idealized version of the person and their family. As part of this display women and many men too were portrayed as being rather plump, though not outright overweight, not necessarily because it was considered attractive per se, but because it demonstrated that they weren't lacking in food and, by extension, wealth.
Is there any political ideology out there that is focused on human beings and their well-being? Not some retarded shit like freedom of the markets, the means of production or the teachings of a prophet?

The things that cost aren't the important or valuable things. People make the mistake of assuming they are, since, y'know, you have to PAY or them, but really there is more of value in the kind words of a friend than in a million dollars.

He was a little busy at the time dealing with a world war

For the same reason the Kingdom of France did not help the Byzantines 1453.
Because he didn't want to help restore an oppressive Monarchy.
The main question is why Britain refused to accept the Romanovs when they asked to come.

Hear me out, would it be possible to become a noble person as an ordinary American in 2017? I mean becoming a member of any legitimate upper social stratum, with a title and priviliege and whatever comes with it. What steps should I take to achieve my dream? I'm not picky with what society I become a noble in, I would even settle for being a retainer of some African kang.

What is it like living in a country that you know isn't your ancestral homeland ?
Doesn't it feel strange?
When a native hears the birds outside his window, he knows those are the same birdsongs his ancestors would have heard thousands of years ago, he sees mostly the same wildlife and plants around him.
He walks the same ancient roads and farms the same land. His entire lineage is buried beneath his feet and he sees ruins and relics of that legacy everywhere.
He might have adapted to his environment in subtle ways that we don't appreciate anymore, like epicanthic folds to protect against snow blindness or sickle cell to prevent malaria, these are redundant if you're out of place.
The animals are different, the crops, the land, the weather, doesn't it feel "wrong" or "alien?
Or is it all forgotten with the first generation born in the new land ?
I remember seeing something years ago about european americans listening to recordings of birdsongs from europe and it having a different effect on the brain when measured scientifically.(genetic memory?) Can't find anything online about it

Here is a scenario for us to consider: what if the Roman army and NYPD were pitted against each other in a battle to the death in Manhatten? If the island were walled up like an arena, every living creature in NY is teleported out instantly, and the two sides spawned in at opposing sides, what would ensue?
The rules and conditions are as follows:
• Both sides are aware of how their oppenents weapons work, although they are unable to use their opponents weapons at any point.
• Both sides have their numbers displaying when they were both at their peak
• NYPD have knowledge of the city layouts, the Roman's do not upon entry to the city. They must learn as they progress through the battle (they are already aware of modern technology and human progress however, so they are not impacted by the mere sight or sounds around them)
• NYPD may only use non-lethal weapons, however they may utilize working standard police cruisers however they wish
• Both sides have respective generals and lower ranking officers
• Buildings are accessible, and everything prior to the battle remains in place (Cars are still waiting on the street, lights and stoves are on across the city, food and water can be found in numbers, etc)
>>2555018
>NYPD may only use non-lethal weapons
what a waste of a thread
sage
NYPD runs over the romans with their cars and uses tear gas.
next question
Anon you have placed too many autistic constraints on your hypothetical scenario.
Which Roman army do you mean? The Roman army of the 2nd century BC is completely different in terms of tactics and capability to that of the 5th century AD. You're saying "at their peak" in terms of size which for the Roman army was the 4th century, I guess.
Also the NYPD has eight helicopters.
You would have to be a literal retard to think that the Romans could win.
How did the UN and South Korea annilate the North Korean peasant army only to have their asses handed to them by a Chinese Peasant army?
>>2554980
CCP veterans, using ppshs and thompsons, who learnt squad tactics from both the US marines and the soviets employed them to great effect and ironically this had an impact on US infantry doctrine afterwards.
>>2554985
The UN still had overwhelming airpower, why couldn't that stop them?
>>2554980
>North Korean peasant army
Fun fact: North Korea had - on paper- a better army than their South Korean enemies and their Chinese allies. Soviets literally handed them a fully mechanized "my first modern army" set and this was the one that Kim Il Sung used to bumrush South Korea, who received limited US assistance initially.
And the army that saved this very modern army was a big Chinese infantry force whose only motorized component are soviet trucks.
Norks are incompetent.
