What is /g/'s general consensus on this distro?
Babby version of Gentoo.
>>55557624
Technically correct.

Is it any good for a slightly experienced user who hasn't ventured far outside of Debian and Ubuntu?
I thought it was all memes, but today I browsed his site and holy shit, this guy is deranged. This is what I know so far:
>won't use nonfree Javascript at Mcdonalds
>'yo send me an encrypted mail, but don't trust the key servers lol'
>if a software isn't compatible with some OS, then the OS is imposing censorship over what programs the user can install and is inherently evil
>not like it matters anyway, because anyone making proprietary software is scum and should stop/fail
>it is wrong to protect the authors' work with DRM, if somebody else tries to protect their creation, that's an attack on your freedom
>proprietary software is an attack on your freedom too
>people complained that they didn't want free music in their iThings, thus Apple is to blame, because they instilled such shallow thinking in their users
>in order to protect your freedom, some of the things listed above should be made illegal; thus removing someone else's freedom to do something (e.g. the freedom to create proprietary software and use it to generate profit)
>ideally, proprietary software shouldn't exist. thus implying that everything should be free software (Let's ignore the fact that 95% of free software is shit and subpar to proprietary software.)
But how can I even generate revenue, assuming that the mere act of asking isn't an attack on your freedom?
>"users can easily send authors anonymous voluntary payments." (This is literally what he thinks. Let's just replace a $400 billion industry with a system where people work for free and other people give them donations in exchange.)
It's clear to me that he's lost contact with reality at least partially, also he's a commie. I could easily imagine him becoming a bomber or a terrorist of some sort with free software as a political motivation. How come he's such a fringe lunatic but nobody seems concerned?
>>55557555
Excellent get. I'm proud.
He's right. Go back to sucking Apple's proprietary botnet dick.
>>55557589
Never used any Apple stuff.
>""""""""""""""""""""""""""""ethical""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" hacker
>just does some shitty scripts that aren't clever or amusing
>pepeposting
>multiple quotes-posting
>>55557544
>"""hacker"""
>just runs a bunch of unimaginative scripts
Literally 90% of the time. Hacking is dead.
>>55557610
>back in my days, memes meant something
Which one would you pick /g/?
The bigger one, obviously.

S7 Edge > S7
>>55557582
Only if you're an autistic shit-fitter who thinks they are somehow standing out from the crowd with it's ridiculously pointless beveled edges.
That or you're from India/Pakistan and you've bought it to go with your oversize and spotlessly clean walking boots.
My father just reinstalled Windows 7 and the Windows update does not fetch any updates. What might be the problem?
Using Windows 7.
>>55557430
For Microsoft, not using Windows 10 is the problem.
>>55557440
>>55557452
So they're deliberately trying to get people to upgrade to Windows 10? Still?
I want to run some servers (wiki, ftp, etc.) on a separate computer with a decent HD on it (probably 1TB).
Mostly just for personal use and fun. Is anyone else doing this or tried this? Would like to hear some stories about how it went for you?
Also I wonder where to find all the potential boards for it. I know about raspi and don't want one so I'm thinking I'll probably get a beaglebone black.
What do people mean they want to run servers?
To me all servers are, are game servers like hosting your own bf4 server or minecrap server...
I guess ftp makes sense, but what the fuck do you mean running a wiki server. What even is that?
>>55558684
>To me all servers are, are game servers
/v/ pls.
>>55558748
>completely disregarding the fact that I immediately mentioned ftp servers make sense too
But wtf is a wiki server. Like you're gonna make your own wiki for whatever and then host it? Or you're hosting an already established wiki just for yourself? If not how do you host it and get it out to public?
does your windows 7 also hangs even for hours on searching for updates every month when they release new updates?
microsoft intentionally crippled windows update in 7 and 8.1 to get people to switch to 10. i bet you installed all recommended updates, didn't you
>>55557353
no. but the cunts really try their worst to sneak fucking 10 in.
Nope, cause I run ubuntu
[spoiler]but when I did have win7 I disabled Windows update in the registry[spoiler]
Hello g
I have an old Nokia 1110i(pic related) lying around. Are there any fun projects I can do with it to get a basic understanding of electronics.
I majored in liberal arts, have minimal experience working with tech
pic related: its the phone im talking about
Bumpity bump
>I majored in liberal arts
lol there's nothing you can ever do be it with a phone or your life
A random cellphone is useless to learn electronics. Get an Arduino or other basic electronic kit designed for learning from.
Is dark mode objectively superior?
>edgy black screen
>apple shit
Just go stick your head in a toilet and you'll get the exact same experience without spending $1500
Yes. Step two on your way to the masterrace is to turn on autohide, remove all the icons, and forget the dock exists
I used to be a dark-fag. Computing with dark themed interfaces with the blinds shut, but for over a year I converted to the light and I think it's way better for you.
Open the blinds, let the sunshine in, and use the default "light" themes for everything.
What's the best way to store unused wires and cables?
>>55557303
Like that, and then you dump it somewhere on your desk and forget what's in the clump.
I actually organized my big tangled box of cables a few months ago.
All I did was get like 20 plastic grocery store bags and start putting types of cables into their own separate bag. Nothing is labeled and I still have to search for shit, but now I search for a cable by going through my pile of bags instead of pulling it all out as one big wad of cables and sifting through the mess.
thick white plastic bag
not cheap grocery type
so they don't punch holes in it

What kind of hardware do I need to capture VHS/Hi8 tapes to digital and is it worth getting something with HD capability.
My phone battery suddenly started draining super fast (From 10 hours battery life down to 45 minutes battery life), and the phone gets really hot when it's on, even just on the home screen. Is it just the battery thats fucked?
How the fuck do i remove adware?
Chrome on this computer is now basically adware i thought that restoring its settings would help but it didn't
random ads on clicks
search bars
is now full on bloatware
It's on W7 if it matters.
>200 dollar RX480 reaches 499 dollar GTX1070 perfomance

Is Nvidia even trying?

Vulkan is the AMD Gameworks
prove me wrong
>>55557089
Let us count how many games besides DOOM use Vulkan. Also, there's a 13fps difference between Vulkan 1070 and Vulkan 480 so it doesn't get the same performance

I'm not a masochist
I'm going to be moving to a big city for college and wanted to know where the sketchy areas were located. There used to be an app called Sketchfactor that was Yelp-like and compiled user-submitted sketchy activities. However, it has since been taken down by SJWs so I'm looking for an alternative.
I'm on Android but a website would be the next best thing.
Thanks.
>>55557001
>Score Drugs Here, The App^TM
Do you really need an app to tell you to stay away from the poor parts of the big city?
Just follow the good old advice and you'll be safe. Around blacks, never relax.
>that huge orange chunk on W66th
what, I used to live near there. It's a very nice neighbourhood.
