I picked up a Kindle Fire 7inch tablet (pic related) on Amazon for $33 yesterday during Prime Day. I also have a 16GB SD card I will use with it.

What's some cool shit I can do with it/use it for? Anyone else have budget tablets they keep around?

>>
I rooted and installed the a new aosp rom on it and just use it as a regular tablet now or books and kodi.
>>
I was thinking about using it as a retro emulator machine, or a cheap remote desktop for acceasing my PC from the couch.

Is rooting the Kindle tablet easy or even worth it?
>>
My main concern is battery life. I read that the stock setup brings pretty good (5-8 hrs. depending on use) battery life. Would a different ROM fuck with this?

Do you have a raspberry pi?

What do you use it for?

Did you learn much from using it?

I just recently got all the parts for my build and put everything together and it wouldn't boot.

After a bit of troubleshooting I found it booted just fine after I removed the 390 card I got for it.

I'm wondering what went wrong with the card. There are two red flags that came up in the process; it didn't click when I put it into the PCIE slot as far as I could, until I screwed it into the case it would wobble back and forth, and basically installing it with my motherboard already fastened to the case required me to put it in tilted a bit until it seemed to go all the way into the slot. Being aware that these may have been problems I was surprised to see that when I started my build the top graphic would light up and the fan went on so it seemed like it was connected.

I basically concluded that it was probably that this pin in the pic seemed to have been chipped off a bit, but I also figured it may have just been like that and I was just not installing it correctly. Kinda looking for some closure here before I decide to buy a new one, any thoughts?

>recently got a 390, didn't wait for a 480

why did you even fucking start the computer after you knew you fucked something up and you didn't try to remove it and put it in another slot?

Also my GTX480 has a chipped off "pin" and it works perfectly fine so don't worry about this.
I'd look at the mobo if everything's fine. Could we have pictures of it?

Are Dell laptops good, /g/?

I don't much care for customization or anything. I might be interested in dual-booting with some Linux distro ( and I don't know if Dells are any good for this ).

>>
I've had the M3800 and currently using the XPS 15, they're good if you dont buy the crappy consumer versions. Sadly you gotta pay to get good quality from Dell.
>>
>>55558948
they're built shitty but they work. if you drop it you're fucked. Don't buy cheap. Expensive dells arent bad but anything under $400 is gonna be terrible.

I'd go with HP if you're on a budget and want something that's a bit sturdier. Otherwise yeah, go with a dell.
>>
>>55558980
>>55558995
I have a budget of ~$450. I've heard Dells work and that's why I looked into them, but I didn't know if I should trust reviews or not.

Also, I've heard HPs are really shitty in that they don't allow you to do things like dual-booting and they often contain bloatware, how true is this?

I'm a sysadmin, we don't generally interact with individual PCs like that.

Why are you not just reimaging your PCs on demand? You don't seriously mean you pay someone money to run reverse-metasploit on every PC that gets a virus or other boo-boo do you?

Sort out your imaging and malware prevention practices, this shit's embarrassing.

Hey /g/,
I just recently got laid off from my part time McJob ($11/hour though). I'm tired of working hourly junk jobs, and I have a few grand in my savings. I was thinking about going to get some Info. Technology certifications. I've been building computers since I was a kid, and I've always enjoyed working with computers and helping people figure out how to do the same.

My question is which IT certs are worth getting? I see a lot of them out there like Comptia, and Cisco, but I'm not sure which ones are worth getting to get a real career. I've heard the Comptia A+ is junk, and the Network+ is barely any better. I've got to get back to work within 3 months or my savings will run out, assuming I use the bulk to get a few certifications under my belt. If I don't use any for certifications I can pay rent for a year and eat heartily, but then I'd be boned come next summer. I was thinking about going for the A+ anyway, then the Network+. I'd follow it up with the CCIA, and CCNA, but I don't know if there's anything I should omit, or anything I should add. I figure I can afford about 5-6 certs, and if I buckle down I can crank them out within my time limit. If I need a short extension my family will probably help with rent for a month or two max.

tl;dr Which IT certs are the best bang for the buck? Which certs will actually help with getting a career, as opposed to a job, in as short an amount of time as possible?

All of the close personal friends I've asked that work in the industry have been super dismissive when I've asked them, and I'm not sure why. They always switch the topic over to anime or something else, which I guess is because they work with this stuff all day.

slightly shameful bump

Abridge this to solid 1-2 sentences.then post it in another thread that seems relevant to the topic.

I didn't see another relevant thread anon.

The solid 2 sentences were in my tl;dr, at least I thought so.

I usually program MIDI files and then use something like Superior Drummer, but then again i don't make electronic music.

What is a drum sequencer used for? Just another way to accomplish the same thing?

the nvidia gt720m from my laptop often reaches temperatures up to 90-95 celsius degrees while playing games like CSGO or fallout new vegas, are these temps safe or should i worry that one day the contacts between the video chip and the motherboard will melt?

the laptop is about 1 year old and is clean with no dust at all in his cooling system. the CPU rarely reaches 70-71degrees in full load, but the GPU is like a fucking oven.

>>
It's a gaming laptop, temps are normal. But your card Is still taking damage, since a card shouldn't really run at 90-95. But since its a gaming laptop, that's expected.
>>
>>55559287
tfw my cpu reaches 90 degrees in full load
and i have a tower
>>
>>55558485
I have the same GPU in my laptop but it never went above 86 while gaming (light stuff like CSGO and LOL). I did a small OC on shaders and memory once and stressed it to see if it was stable. It was at 92 degrees for the better part of a hour.
Temps like these will shorten it's lifespan but will not make it blow in your face.
