ntfsfix /dev/yousuck1
Fucking typical /g/ user can't even use a search engine.
>>56106349
That's what I did.
But Linux doesn't require a full shutdown to be able to mount back his partition
>>56106349
Why are you even trying to defend your broken OS, Wintard?
I've been using Arch with the additional OpenRC repositories for a while, but they seem finicky and I'm not having a great time.
I'm considering moving to Gentoo for the package manager and native OpenRC support.
My only issue is that I use one disk across multiple computers.
When I move from my desktop to my laptop, I pull the disk out and insert it into my laptop.
This saves a lot of time versus i.e. syncing.
Gentoo is supposedly "machine specific", but can this be disabled? If not, will I run into any issues moving the installation around?
>>56106003
Gentoo is not machine specific.
It just compiles as you tell it to. If you do x86_64 binaries with this and that CPU co-processor optimization, then you can't run that on CPU that don't have it.
If you want to reuse binary packages on multiple machines, pick the lowest common denominator and compile for that.
Alteratively there is also Sabayon. Or you can do distributed compiles with distcc or icecream.
>>56106048
So if I leave most of the compile flags default, It'll function the same way as a binary packaged distro?
>>56106090
It will still compile packages (you can instruct portage to also create binary packages as it does that), but if you use the same flags the resulting binaries will be the same way as on a binary packaged distro, yes.
Just with the dependency graph that you choose to use by compiling in features or not.
>970 = 3.5gb

Why is it so hard to find a quad core laptop that dosen't look so autisticly edgy!?
>>56105919
Get a Mac or a Thinkpad
sage
Thinkpad workstations are your answer.
And if you only want a gaming laptop:
a)just build a desktop pc you weirdo
b)why do you even want quad cpu on a gaming machine
>>56105950
I dont want to use a laptop but i need one for uni...
I use
>dollar store paintbrush
>hair dryer on cool (more like room temperature) setting
>paper towels
>water
I used to use compressed air but shit was too expensive.
Anyone use an electric duster? Is it an overpriced hair dryer? Is it worth the price? Are there any better ways to clean your computer?
Dust filters on intakes.
Clean those with vacuum/wet paper towels/etc.
I've been looking around and some people use balloon pumps to clean their computer. It's actually a good idea. A pump of air has comparable pressure to a compressed air can.
I bought a spray bottle of non-ammonia based cleaning solution for screens. Screen wipes are shit and basically overpriced eye-glass wipes.
Wipe down all the surfaces of my electronics and the insides with it using a microfiber cloth.
Keeping your computer room dust-free in the first place also reduces the amount of cleaning you need to do.
Hit in between the keyboard keys once a week with compressed air, wipe down the computer internals with the spray cleaner once every few weeks and keep the desk, shelves and floor dusted and vacuumed every week.

I have a dilemma and I'm not sure which way to go. I currently have a 1tb HDD with no SSD but would like to improve speed. Would it just be easier to get a smaller SSD for windows and keep storage on my HDD or would it be a better idea to just get a 500gb SSD and keep the os AND the files on the SSD?
get a dedicated boot drive, best decision you'll ever make
>>56105356
so a little ssd just for booting off of?
>>56105337
Not knowing your exact uses & needs for your system, I would generally say it's usually a Very Good Idea to have your OS on one drive and all your critical data stored on another.
So, for example, a 240 or 256 GB SSD to install your OS and all your read/write critical software and use a mechanical HDD for mass storage and other applications that don't care about read/write speeds.
I have one system with a Samsung 850 250 GB EVO and two 2 TB HDDs. Very adequate setup. Other older systems have either one or two 128 GB SSDs for the OS (with the second SSD reserved for intensive software & photoshop scratch disk) and one 2 TB HDD each. Lots of room for movies, animu & music.
You didn't say what your HDD model is. If you are going to rely on it to store your critical data, make sure it's a good one in good health.

I'm interested in web design for modern webpages. I know the basics of HTML and CSS, and how to program in Python and Java, but I'd like to learn:
1) How to design a good-looking modern website that works on desktop and mobile
2) How to make that website responsive, as in storing data on a server
Can anyone recommend good resources for this? Is a CMS the best way to go?
>>56105148
>How to make that website responsive, as in storing data on a server
That's not what responsive means.
>>56105148
>supposedly knows all that stuff
>apparently doesnt understand the slightest thing about websites with backends
does not compute
Learn the terminology first.
So whats the deal with Windows 10 Assistive Technologies? I know a couple of people who use it because they didn't get the original in time, but what does it do differently?

Asking "Hey guys, what's your opinion on x?" is frowned upon.
Wireless is frowned upon.
Headset requests are frowned upon.
Noise isolation ≠ Noise cancellation
If you dislike a suggestion, try giving a better suggestion to whomever asked instead of going "hurr, x sucks"

$170-200
Full size, closed over ears, comfy
For computer, home and sometimes in the airplane
Neutral or similar
I had a HD518 and I liked the removable cable
>>56105293
If you can pop your budget another $50 you should take a look at the VISO HP50. Otherwise maybe the DT770 which is more bassy than neutral.
